I think I had that exact same list. I said I liked stealth, RPG and narrative games or something like that. I've played literally everything on that list except Thimbleweed Park.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm |OT| Hella Walk with Me

I just finished the first episode and am pleasantly surprised that I'm enjoying this. I heard "different studio" and "different Chloe voice actress" with very mixed emotions going in. Glad to say, it still very much feels like Life is Strange in cinematography, scene direction, script and prose. Chloe especially works for me.
I honestly don't even remember how the original sounded much anymore because of how good I am with Beyond the Storm's Chloe. I'm also finding her a much more likable presence off-the-bat here than she was in much of Life is Strange. The "Sound off" system (whatever it's called), is something I rolled my eyes at when reading the bullet points, but am actually enjoying in the game. Though the consistent "How dare you!" responses tossed back at Chloe are a bit flat and come off more like a verbal piñata weakly talking back.
Anyways, this has been solid thus far. I will say it's more difficult for me to get invested seeing how I am well-aware how the story goes after these events, but that's prequels for you.

I played Edith Finch yesterday, it's really neat. Didn't quite love it but I'm super glad I played it, it's very cool and surprising. I didn't love Virginia though, but I'm also glad I played it. It's interesting, at the very least.
I caught up with episode 1 and 2 over the weekend, and really enjoyed it. Despite being made by a different studio, they have nailed the feel of the game and the characterisation of the characters. I have to say, it's really painful getting emotionally attached to Rachel knowing what happens to her. Seeing more of Chloe's backstory stings for similar reasons.
Hey I want to, just haven't got around to it yet! I think I'm gonna spend a while just playing through all the chill story games I have in my backlog.
(Lost Planet is the only one I'm not interested in. Come to think of it, I did play that for a very short time at some point..)

Ok this is good and all but I feel really bad for the Chloe VA for the base Before the Storm. She did a really good job. But the comments and remarks like the one's right here would be a real kick in the shin if she's reading them.

I've gotten used to the new VA and I think she's done a fine job, but I don't feel like she has the range that Ashly has. It also sounds a bit more... dull? I don't know. It must be really rough trying to replace a very well liked character's voice, but that's just how I feel about it.
I mean...yeah, I can imagine she'd be upset. But you're right. Rhianna did an amazing job, and the game has gotten hella praise from critics and fans alike. She must have some idea as to her skills and worth within the franchise.
That being said, SE was always going to try to get Ashly back. It was an inevitability. They did what they had to do and found a suitable replacement in the meantime.
I don't want to speak for everyone, but for me personally I'm way more excited about Hannah coming back to play Max.
Same. I love love love everything about Chloe's character in BTS, and that includes the voice - I think Rhianna is perfect for the Chloe Decknine wrote, the flat affect works wonders for her deadpan gallows humor, especially. I just think she's great.
But this episode presumably goes back to when Max first left Arcadia Bay, and having the original voice actors, especially for Max, back for that just feels right. I wouldn't have minded Rhianna as Chloe again at all, but I don't think a new actress would've had the time to grow into Max's role in such a short bonus episode, so I'm super glad Hannah is back.
God damnit... I just realised that I missed the playthrough of Episode 3: Chaos Theory played and commented by Hannah Telle (Max), Dayeanne Hutton (Kate) amd Nik Shriner (Nathan).
Anyone catch it? I'm going to watch it soon, because the 1st two episodes were really awesome with live commentary by the Voice Actors.

Yeah I watched this live, I forgot to post about it in here though, sorry! It's great, the first two episodes are awesome too, they did those last year. Also, Dayeanne streamed herself and Hannah playing episode 5 earlier this year, which will destroy you emotionally if you watch it.

Thanks for the links. I already watched the 1st and 2nd episode and they were glorious. Will have to watch Episode 3, 4 and 5. 4 and 5 again, depending on if they do a playthrough on the Square Channel.
I know, right? Watching these episodes with the voice actors is pretty crazy.
Also wanna repost this in case people missed it but are interested: The Eurogamer playthrough of BTS ep 1 with Decknine's lead writer. Super interesting, I think he's really eloquent and so 100% gets it when it comes to Chloe, depression, etc. Super great stuff.
Yeah I was watching some of this yesterday, gunna watch the rest later today. Zak is a really cool dude, totally gets what makes these games special.
Edit: Just finished watching it and yeah, it's really good. Zak gives a lot of bits of trivia about the development and writing process and stuff too, and points out some awesome symbolism and stuff that I hadn't picked up on yet. Also, Aoife and Johnny are great, I'm gunna go watch all of their LiS let's plays now haha they are so charming.

Can't wait for episode 3. Despite the stakes being way lower than in the first game, and already knowing what will happen to the characters 3 years later, Before the Storm is still engaging.
