Pokémon Let's Go's launch sales are down compared with previous major Pokémon titles. Opening week sales of Let's Go are down more than 60 per cent compared with 2016's Sun and Moon and are down five per cent compared with 2013's Pokémon X and Y.

Apparently there are stock issues as the article also states with some pre-orders not fulfilled.

Now to see if this game has legs which will make up the gap.

Edit:

That means sales are probably around what you'd expect from remakes, but it's hard to judge given that I've seen a bunch of people in the UK complaining that they didn't get their copies

Surely no-one was expecting sun/moon numbers. Also if they didn't even have stock to fulfil preorders the numbers are slightly misleading. 5% less than x/y with those factors is more cause for optimism than anything else IMO.

120k

Pikachu ver. was the best selling one by a notable amount.

I imagine the difference in digital adoption more than made up the 5% difference compared to X/Y which means the game have done well.

They were never going to debut to Sun/Moon numbers.

Considering the fraction of Switch vs 3DS there are out there in the market, this is pretty good right?

makes sense, sun and moon had the pokemon go boost

surprised there were stock issues for let's go though, seems kind of strange

it's probably up over X/Y though only being down 5% physically

anyway for the UK seems like a great start for the game

Combined with the stock issue and how close it is to X/Y yup.
Sets up next years proper new generation to be higher in sales too

Given switch's userbase will be increasing at a greater pace too this one should have better legs than sun/moon

time to consider that everything is down in uk because of brexit despair

So close to X/Y ? Thats impressive considering the price difference between 3DS+ Game and Switch+Game.

It was never going to reach Sun/Moon sales because the 3DS had like 3 time the Switch userbase when they launched.

The Article said:
However, there are a few caveats. Stock issues persisted in the UK with fewer than expected units coming in from Nintendo's European warehouse, which meant some pre-orders were not fulfilled (and many stores were sold out). Furthermore, both X and Y and Sun and Moon launched when 3DS had a slightly larger install base compared with the Switch currently. Download sales are also not included in this data.
With download sales, almost certainly it beats X/Y, right?

It's going to be interesting seeing how it holds up for the next few weeks. Seems pretty impressive though, all things considered.

3DS had a much larger userbase in 2016 than the Switch has currently, so that is hardly surprising. Sun & Moon also released during the hype of Pokémon Go. And digital sales are much higher on the Switch than they are on the 3DS. There was also a double gold points bonus if you bought the game digitally which further boosted digital sales.

Also look at those Switch game sales increases. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe nearly doubled week on week...

Always a negative spin for these UK threads. 120k is really good. Don't think anyone expected it to match Sun/Moon.

Any metrics for comparing UK software numbers to global?

120k sounds good but I don't really know in context of the UK market. Of course with stock problems it is looking like a great success.

Recently UK market has been much weaker. And some games where people were worried for sales due to UK did fine elsewhere.

that thread title is pretty bad by the way, sun/moon was the biggest launch for a nintendo title ever made and it would have never been matched in any possible dimension by a non-new gen game

let's go actually sold great, on par with X/Y

Not looked into it but why would anyone buy both games? Sun and Moon some fans always buy both but is they anything other then starter?

Didn't it release at the end of the week though? Wouldn't that affect the sales?

Sun and Moon was released on that exact day, the Friday before black Friday.

Same for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. It's basically the Pokémon release slot now.

Good and kinda expect result for Let's Go. Switch can hit 20m with a good performance like this and next year's Pokémon game will be crazy considering what we already know (new pokemons, usually big marketing push and promised much better graphics).

Considering that digital is much stronger in Switch than 3DS, I imagine that it has stayed between X / Y and S / M.

With a smaller userbase it's pretty good

Honestly, only 5% less than XY is good. 3DS had also more HW sales at time if I'm correct.

Makes sense, Switch has higher digital ratio than 3DS, plus the install base difference between late gen 3DS and Switch currently. Let's see how the sales develop over time
