From my prediction on this:

https://www.resetera.com/threads/fa...contest-venom-fantastic-beasts-aquaman.60909/

VENOM DOMESTIC OW: $96.0M
FANTASTIC BEASTS 2 DOMESTIC OW: $55.0M
AQUAMAN DOMESTIC OW: $43.0M

Overestimated Venom, Underestimated Fantastic Beasts, different from what others probably thought that would play out though.

VENOM DOMESTIC OW: $81.0M
FANTASTIC BEASTS 2 DOMESTIC OW: $62.0M
AQUAMAN DOMESTIC OW: $78.0M

Only $1 million off. All comes down to Aquaman for you.

So it would be Venom, Nightwatch, Morbius, Kraven, Black Cat and Silver Sable? Watch out Judas Traveler, they are coming for you

Is Venom 2 already confirmed? If not, it's probably gonna happen any day now. Who saw this massive success coming lol

Sony lucked the hell out with Venom. I don't think that anyone there really had an idea of how big of a hit it would be.

Widows is off to an okay start. I'm not sure how well it might hold in the coming weeks but it seems like a solid film that deserves to make back its production budget. Will give it a watch tonight if I can.

My game was shot after Venom, which I thought would be huge based on trailer metrics. It was huge. Just not in the right country.

This thread is like the perfect testing ground to see who actually reads OPs and articles and who just reads the thread title (though I have to admit the thread title IS pretty misleading)

The global start for this pic is higher than FB1 which was close to $220M, with foreign repping 71% of its final $814M WW tally.

Because Fantastic Beasts 2 was actually more successful than the first movie worldwide. 250 Million compared to 220 Million with the first. So while they did open lower by 13 million in the states, they actually opened 43 million dollar higher internationally. Those 3 Fantastic Beasts movies left are going nowhere.

37.5M of that difference was China, which opened in Fantastic Beasts 1's second weekend, and which will end up being down considerably from the first film's total gross.

It was probably for the best that the main series films got other people to do the screenwriting. JK Rowling seems to be going down the Star Wars prequels route of "someone should have said no to some of this".

Really don't know why she couldn't have made this series just about Dumbledore, Grindelwald and Wizard WW2 in the first place. Or just have FB be a lighthearted adventure about Newt traveling around the wizarding world discovering and befriending magical creatures. When you try to put those 2 concepts together it doesn't mix well at all.

Can Johnny Depp turn back into Colin Farrell at the start of the next Fantastic Beasts film?

Well that's a shame then because as a huge Harry Potter fan I hate to see the franchise putting out crap like this. The Cursed Child should have been everyone's warning that Rowling has completely lost the plot.

I'd bet money that we don't see a fifth film in this particular series. This one will be down at least $100M, if not more, and much of that will be from the domestic take, which is most profitable. The budgets are not exactly low either.

That comparison is misleading because FB1's global opening doesn't include China yet, and movies don't stop making money after a week. If it has poor legs internationally, along with the huge underperformance in the US and China, it's assuredly going to decrease quite a bit from the first movie

Those 3 Fantastic Beasts movies left are going nowhere.

A 5-film plan is very much up in the air depending on how much this one declines

though I have to admit the thread title IS pretty misleading

Not really

So Fantastic Beasts 2 is a bit lower in the US but it's hardly doomed yet, it's still making plenty of cash worldwide. Will have to see how it's doing in a few weeks to see how big the drop off is.

No, but it could go as high as 900M. In China It will significantly outperform Infinity War in the coming week.

Global total without China is currently 570.5, with China it is 780.5M. Excluding China, Venom will be likely to get to 585 lifetime (factoring in thanksgiving), boosting the total take to 799.5M, maybe slightly less by a couple M. China currently sits at 207M. My model shows that China is locked for 280M; almost certain to go above that, which will be confirmed in week 4 but currently sits just over 70% likelihood. Venom hitting 280M would add 73M to the final total, hitting around 872.5M at the low end.

So from the guy who wrote 50 0000 words on this site why BP would cross 700M like a week and a half into its domestic run and backed it up with a shit tone of math. Homecoming is falling, Spider-Man 3 (890M) is in relative danger, 900M is 'possible'.

You gotta give it to David Yates. He has a knack for making 200M look cheap as fuck.

Can You Ever Forgive Me? is performing really softly for a film that has one of the frontrunners for the big acting awards this year.

The Academy is going to have that same problem this year where all of the films that critics and their voters raved over made no money.
I think that A Star is Born will do well with nominations and that's a genuine hit. Otherwise, I do agree that they'll be sticking to their wheelhouse, unless Disney resorts to some of the tactics studios pulled back before the New Hollywood era emerged with the super-expensive kiss-ass luncheons.

So it's a possibility that Venom will make more money then any Spider-Man movie ever - that is insane!

btw, in case anyone was wondering why Venom is doing so well in China. I figured it out for you*

Sure the US has Eminem going "Venumumumn" but China opted for something infinitely better. An idol girl group going "balabalahong".

*this may not in fact be why Venom did well, no refunds offered if this deep analysis didn't satisfy your demands. And also let's face it, the real reason is the road safety advert (which I can't find video of but enjoy this composite image. If I understand it right they show the motorcycle crash and then Venom comes in and admonishes the audience):

Asian countries are the only one that respect the blockbuster banger anymore. Even Fantastic Four got a theme song in Korea

Does China have another 80 to 100 million is the question for venom. It would probably need that to beat all Spider-Man ww numbers. Spider-Man 3 at 890m is the target with homecoming at 880m
