I like the artstyle, but the lack of a more refined lighting hurts the game IMO, it looks flat most of times and the simple textures look even simpler.

I hope they use a new lighting engine for Gen 8, a good example is Smash Ultimate vs Smash U, the new lighting makes everything look better and more dynamic, even if the poly count or texture details in the characters are not greatly improved.

The artstyle is bright, clean and appealing. It's by no means a technical showcase but it also doesn't need to be - I would agree that it can look rather beautiful

The Pokémon games have always felt like they were falling apart at the seams since they turned 3D. It was somewhat understandable on the 3DS but aside from a very clean artstyle, LGPE is kind of embarrassing for a series as successful as Pokémon. The game should be 60fps, let alone a fixed 30fps.

This is the main reason I was happy about the switch and bought it, being able to play handheld Nintendo games on a TV. I want Layton, Phoenix Wright, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing and all the other stuff I'm interested in but usually skip because of the format.

Switch is great for it, but I'd be more wowed by the game's visuals if it weren't for Sun/Moon's superior art style. They really perfected the look with Sun and Moon. It looked more like the anime too. I don't like the chibi heads in Let's Go/XY.

I find it baffling that the most "tested" zone in demos and trials from the past months were specifically located in Viridian Forest and it's the zone where, on release, the FPS drops the most.

Can't wrap my head around how that can happen.

I don't know if the Switch is "the best thing" for the series when it seems rather obvious that the problem is with GameFreak not being able to handle any 3D game with proper sustainability.

Reception to Pokemon games is always interesting. This is a game which, compared to other games on the system is fairly unimpressive, yet people consider impressive because compared to the previous entry it's a significant jump. Oh well, to each his own

Not to be rude to everyone loving the visuals of these games but this is kinda where I'm at too.

The game has a good art style and looks way better than Sun and Moon did, but I can't lie, I'd love for a Pokémon game on switch that pushed the system just a little more than this. It really feels like Pokémon is behind now. I just feel there is so much potential for what could be.

Still enjoying my time with Let's Go! Pikachu. Although I wish all the trainer battles weren't so dang easy.

30fps with drops and no cheat detection. Seems like whatever the merits of the Switch and the ability to finally play Pokemon games in HD, it means very little if Game Freak are going to continue to be awful on the underlying tech side of things.

They just don't care. Nintendo don't care. And us fans keep buying em. So there is no real incentive to change. I'm not getting this game most likely, but I would probably buy Gen 8 even if it ran like dogshit, so I guess I'm as much a part of the problem as Nintendo and GF

The games looking better than the 3ds games is expected. But still look terrible compared to console games made back in 2006. People are comparing it graphically to Switch games like Mario, Xenoblade 2, Zelda, yokai watch 4, etc. Gen 8 should hopefully look alot better, especially with a 2+ years development time.

With the level of graphics on display at lets go, anything less than a locked 60fps is unacceptable.

Mario Odyssey looks leaps and bounds better AND plays at 60fps.

And it's not like Game Freak doesnt know how to use hardware. Sun/Moon felt like a great technical feat on the 3DS. What happened here, gamefreak?

I completely agree. Graphic wise it's undoubtedly the best one of the franchise, there's not even discussion on this. Now, with the artstyle is another story and more subjective and in this case, Let's Go is really beautiful to me much like Sun/Moon was.

But the problems of framerate still persists but that's a problem with GF. Not that it bothers me since I never had a problem even when that happened on past games.

Nintendo isn't Gamefreak. This can't be stressed enough. If the games are developed in-house they'd be MUUUUUUUCH better technically and far more ambitious

Nothing happened, Let's Go is just a lower budget game with shorter development time

I'm skipping Let's Go but if gen 8 has the same types of visual improvements then I am going to be very excited.

Impressions on brand new Pokemon games are always so mixed on these forums. It's crazy.

Anyways I think the game looks clean especially in handheld mode. Interested in seeing what they do with Gen 8

The art style is so plastic and sterile, and the obvious grid layout of the overworld is disgusting and embarrassing for the console debut of such a successful and long running franchise
