Would this make a good first Pokemon game?

It looks charming and I'm ok with simplicity in general...but I hopped around a stream of the first couple hours and nearly every single battle was won by just picking a single move and it was over. That easiness combined with the simplistic story may be a struggle for me, unless there's more than meets the eye.
Honestly that most Pokémon games in the eary game.
I'm nearing the mid game and it's honestly fairly challenging for me as I'm not catching a ton ofmultiples of Pokémon like they expect you to. I'm about evenly matched with other trainers and I'm having to strategize to make itnout of battles with losing some of my team.

Finally got to the GO Park. I love how all of the tunes in it are remixes of tracks from Go, right down to the "Pokémon caught" fanfare.

Found a Mr. Mime east of Vermillion and used all my great balls before it bailed. Another one popped up as I was leaving the area and I caught it on the first throw with a pokeball

Just played for a little bit last night. Game looks and sounds great, and everything feels quite cozy in that classic Pokemon way, so I think I'll really like this. I am going to have to turn off the motion controls ASAP though, even though the Pokeball controller feels really good to hold. Missed throws for no good reason is no bueno.

I feel like I'm back in middle school with this game. Having a great time and had zero hype for this game before I bought it.

Plus one for the music love.

You can't dosable motion controls in docked mode. In handheld you use gyro to aim and press a to toss a pokeball.

Game is pretty cute and fun. I'm really confused at the lack of Pro Controller support, everything needed for the default docked controls is included in the Pro Controller, and on top of that it would be nice to be able to use the handheld controls in docked, which I prefer.
It's also really strange that they didn't put any filtering on the shadows, it really hurts the visuals.

Ok I just lost a battle.

I was shocked lol

If you play the game and do not catch multiple Pokémon the game actually feels challenging.

I see that people are talking about shiny Pokémon more. Is it easily to get in this game? And does chaining catches increase the chances?

God, I'm going back and forth on this game so much. I like the new in-world Pokemon hunting mechanics and how easy it is to both quickly build up and control the levels on my team, but I wish there was more mechanical depth to interact with Pokemon in this context. On the flip side, I'm not that excited about fighting trainers either, but I have a feeling a lot of that is because I haven't started to hone in on Pokemon that feel really compelling yet.

I have PTSD from the old games...when I play on Mt. moon I kept feeling like a random Pokémon would pop up (I think it's because of the music)... but there's nothing to worry about now since there's no random battles.

No random battles my ass.

I will say this - the game just lets you do your thing. It's not stopping you every 5 seconds to point out some bullshit like S/M does. I can appreciate that.

Is there a list of what type of candies you get from sending them to Oak?

And how do we get more character specific candies?

We went to the park today, I put Eevee in the pokeball and I did a few laps around the park while hitting up the poke stops in pokemon Go...

Maybe 30-40 minutes worth of walking and it netted me 15,000 XP... Jumped like 10 levels and now my Eevee is beyond overpowered.

Do you have to have it in your hand when doing this?

Can you have everything in your pocket/backpack and just let it count your steps and get items from pokestops?

So for a person that has never played a pokemon game.. Can someone tell me the other aspects of the game that have nothing to do with getting more pokemon.

You don't have to hold it, or connect it to pokemon go, though doing the latter gains you additional items/experience, how much so I'm not certain. There is a breakdown when you reconnect the pokeball to the game, but it's not clear how that break down is weighted for XP.

The game is about catching and training monsters that you can fit into your pocket. Everything else is just a minor side activity to either catching, or training.

Why does one of my Pokémon in particular keep getting support shouted at it after moves? "That's it. I knew you could do it".

On top of that, it says he might cry when his hp is low and he even saved himself from knockout once by putting himself to one HP (when he would have normally been knocked out).

Only seems to happen with 1 of my Pokémon.

It means you have a strong relationship with that Pokémon. For example you often have it following alongside you rather than being in its ball.

There is a narrative goal as well as the collection goal. You are meant to progress through a series of increasing challenges until being declared "the champion" by defeating the region's most accomplished Pokémon trainers. There are further post-game challenges and online battles as well.

There is a flimsy good vs evil narrative that runs alongside the main thread, but it's not compelling in itself.

In the past, there was a healthy metagame based on hidden stat attributes and particular stat distributions for individual Pokémon. There was competitive depth. It often involved breeding Pokémon and planning for desired outcomes. Let's Go does away with a lot of the traditional metagame. Remains to be see what exactly the impact of its changes will be.

If you want a glimpse down the rabbit hole, see here.

They're pretty straightforward RPGs with a bog standard narrative arc. The main point of the collecting is to build up teams of progressively stronger monsters to take down elite trainers and acquire the title of Champion.

Has anyone figured out a way to reliably use the motion controls? Catching Pokemon in co-op is painful with the way the pokeballs randomly fly different directions.

I just got a Shiny Jigglypuff! It was a "Huge" pokemon too, are these not "that" rare anymore ?

Make sure you're homding the joycon at the ready in a straight up position before you click ready. Wherever it is when you choose you're ready is considered the neutral position

Are Mega Stones available before defeating the Pokémon League, or are they post-game?

Ok, at this point I have to ask, how are you guys finding the catching loop fun? I find it so boring, especially since you need to chain it for rares. I'm mashing a and just praying I get the click. I just don't find it that fun and even more dumb and time consuming than battling where X/Y already fixed most of the experiencing problems.

You don't need to chain forever first of all... Just get to 20 (1:512) or 30 (1:341 and max) then you can just idly walk around and watch the spawns till you actually see the shiny.

Second of all, if you're intentionally just button mashing and praying, it's no wonder you're not having any fun.

I can't play this game outside handheld mode and I don't use too many berries at the beginning. I'm not trying to "not have fun" with this game and think that some elements could be put into the next gen just fine. But the loop is so dull and worst requires me to pay attention to how dull it is unless I mash a so the pokeball is centered to the Pokemon. At least in battle if I'm mashing a I don't have to pay attention and appreciate the loop as a loop. Here I actually actively need to focus on how bored I am.

I have the Pokeball Plus and am finding that docked mode makes catching way more fun.

I'm very confused when I read about people having issues with it, because they explained it pretty well. In case anybody is struggling: before pressing the button that confirms you are ready, point at your television so that the control stick is pointing up towards your ceiling. Then, press confirm. Now, think like a catapult. Bring your arm slowly back from your elbow and then forward. It's all elbow.

I throw it where I want every time

So once you battle the 8 gym leaders and elite four there's nothing to do?

Bringing my Switch home with me for Thanksgiving break and don't want to beat it before I leave.

There is end game stuff like the master trainers, the original RBY end game, etc. There are also battles with Red, Blue, and Green(?) to do.

I'm far from a Pokemon expert but so far I haven't found this game to be any easier than Sun which is the only Pokemon game I've ever beaten.
