Probably, even with elements being basic I feel the overall style is really clean and works well. Colours pop and everything is quite charming. Not going to take home any awards but it's pleasant to look at and explore within.
Ah yeah, it's decent and works, but I can see why some people are disappointed at the graphics, I too was disappointed at them when I first started playing, but already got over it. What I'm more concerned about now is how imprecise my throws will be once I start facing more Pokémon who move all over the screen, Zubat is annoying af.

I think it's way too easy to overlevel in this, I don't get why they out the option to disable exp. share as it would have made my life much easier in that regard.

But at least the portable box makes it easy enough to rotate teams in this, so that's been helpful.
Rotating seems necessary to make sure things aren't overleveled. I've been using all sorts of Pokemon throughout the game so far and it's helped create something of a challenge of it. My team was underleveled for Lt. Surge and his thunderbolts were even hurting my grass types (though I had Sandshrew with dig which helped). I guess the beauty of these games is thanks to the catching mechanics, this sort of playstyle of using many different Pokemon works. Shame there's only 151 to choose from!

I feel like set Pokemon to prevent free switches does wonders to up the difficulty. Sometimes you just get a bad matchup and have to switch.

Preach. Hoping it doesn't become too tedious especially if any of the shinies I want late game move around a load.

Do shinies run away? It would fucking suck if one ran away because the game decided to be a bitch and I ended up missing several throws. I actually don't like the fact that Pokémon can run away here, that's not something from Go I expected to come over.

Who thought giving Snorlax Rest was a good idea, everytime I get its health down low it uses it.

BTW What happens when the match timer runs out?

Haha it's a nice touch that if Pikachu has the sleep status outside battle and you go to interact him he's sleeping.

Haha I'm getting tripped up between the experience of playing in Kanto with only Kanto Pokemon and forgetting I'm playing a gen 7(?) game, I just tried to use a fighting type move on a Clefairy oops.

Any impression on the Pokeball Plus? Haven't really seen much, but the thing seems pretty neat. It's the only thing holding me back from getting the game right now as I don't know whether I want that damn ball or not.

So I got to Fuschia. Transferred a bunch of Pokémon

Got the Mysterious Box onto my Go Account

Spent 30 minutes catching 1 single Meltan every few minutes

Ended up catching 10 altogether

Holy fucking shit this is the dumbest mythical obtaining process Game Freak has ever come up with

Who is this for? Like who would ever find this fun? Really? What kid or casual player is going to want to spend 6 weeks (Assuming you Pinap every single one) just trying to evolve this thing? Not to mention, of the 10 I caught not even 1 has amazing IVs that mythicals are supposed to have

Imagine if this game had an actual event quest for Meltan and its evolutionary process instead of this tedium

I'm not sure but building a streak can be irritating. I lost a 70+ Geodude one earlier because one decided to run straight after breaking from a Great! throw. So now I'm not bothering with streaks until the late game, as wasted a load of money and overlevelled the Pokemon - thankfully I had saved before the 70+ streak and after an 18 one so clawed most of it back.

I don't have these games yet, but, theoretically, since there is no wild battling and all you do is catch Pokemon, couldn't you put all the level 40 Pokemon in the PC and then just roam the lands with the underleveled Pokemon until they catch up?
I could do that, but I don't really enjoy having to gimp myself. Can't really blame this game because that's been the case since X/Y. I wish you could disable exp.all and they gave you an exp boost for the mon you are training instead. Also it doesn't help that the catching minigame is getting too repetitive for my taste...
One thing I really find not well thought out about all this is that you have to waste balls (and therefore money) if you want lower level mons to catch up, which feels rather punishing if you want to change your team midgame...

What would you even do with the second Joycon?

I thought the problem was so overblown. I had no issues from the moment I started. It's relaxing having a free hand to adjust your comfort position.

Spread out the inputs to both hands? Like how is this a question?

It's very uncomfortable for me to hold a single Joy-Con and extend my finger to the triggers and move my thumb to the face buttons. The Joy-Con grip feels good to me, and the game already has the controls for a joy-con pair in handheld mode, so there is zero reason to not have the option of using both Joy-Cons.

Regular PokeBalls aren't free? That doesn't make sense.

It should have been unlimited free PokeBalls, but all the other types of balls are finite or buyable.

Played the game for the first time this evening with my daughter and the Pokeball really made the experience for her.

When you throw a ball and catch a Pokémon it rumbles and lights up in time to what's happening on screen. When the Pokémon is caught it goes green and lets out the Pokemon's cry. I recommend it

Right. Each single joycon set-up felt really uncomfortable to me as well.
If I use the left one, controls are fine, but I'm right handed so throwing feels uncomfortable.
If I use the right one, the stick is way too low and uncomfortable, but throwing is fine.
Ideally, I'd have liked using directions with the left and using buttons and throw with the right one.

So now, I'm actually using the left joy-con in my right hand, which isn't ideal, but the most comfortable set-up I found while docked.

Regular balls are $100. I think there are some NPCs that will give you some if you run out, but I have no idea if you can do this indefinitely, and they're mostly in locations that are difficult to access (inside caves).

Yeah, I was actually considering using Meltan on my team but once I found out that it can only evolve in Go and requires 400 candies, I was like fuck that as I don't have that many Pokéball nor do I have the time to halt my adventure to grind on a companion app to get a Pokémon that is the only non gen 1 Pokémon.

You know what the upside is of using one joycon to play the game? You can use your other hand to eat snacks.

This has probably been discussed to death, but if there is a Let's Go for Johto, who do y'all suppose would be the two starters? Assuming they go that route again, of course.

Wait, you can catch several during those 30 minutes? I thought it was only one. Also, how does it work then? They spawn every 2 minutes or is it just like incenses where walking will actually make more spawn?

They spawn every 3 minutes. You can just stand still, you don't have to walk around. Walking around doesn't make them spawn more, I tried that.

I'm hopefully gen 8 just creates an alternative evolution process

So how exactly do you get Meltan?
Go to the go park in Fuchsia. Transfer over a Pokémon from your Pokémon GO account. Your Go account will receive a mysterious box.

Play Pokémon GO, got to your bag and activate the mysterious box. Meltan will spawn for 30 minutes. You can only do this once a week.

Ah I see. So how do you exactly get Metal? You trade one Pokémon from Go to Let's Go and you get the box? Then you open said box? Does it have to be one Pokémon or do you need to transfer several Pokémon?

Does anyone elses Pokéball Plus not make a sound and light up when connected to a charger? Mine makes sounds and lights up perfectly while in-game, during Pokémon GO and when I roll it around with a Pokémon inside, but when I connect it to a charger nothing happened. It worked one time yesterday when I first unboxed the thing, but after that nothing. I've tried different chargers and charging bricks, and nothing seems to work :/. I already hard resetted it with the tiny button on the side, but that didn't change anything either.

Well I got my first defeat. Lt. Surge just wrecked me.

Having said that my avg level was 22 but god damn. He tore through me. All his Pokémon moves hit really hard. He nearly one shot my Nidorino :(

How do you put a pokemon into the pokeball plus? We managed to get my son mew but I dont see a menu option to put one back in.

Also, can he trade me mew to get the pokedex entry and then I can trade it back for him to use?

Amazon messed up my order of Let's Go Pikachu (won't deliver till Monday at the earliest), so I went to the store on Friday and picked up the Eevee version just so I could try the game out over the weekend (but not take it too seriously as I want the Pikachu version to be my 'main'). Having so much fun though that I can't stop playing, 4 gyms down and barely any roadblocks now stopping me from ticking the rest off consecutively.

Since I'm not taking things too seriously I decided to use an all normal team - I normally never use Normal types so it's been a fun change. Porygon is really cool, and riding in Kangaskhan/on Snorlax is hilarious.

I had a good feeling about the introduction of the capture mechanic/overworld Pokemon, and I'm happy to see it's been received (mostly) well. I love it even more than I thought I would, personally. It's refreshing to have a new part of the core gameplay loop in Pokemon. Instead of Overworld/Battle, it's now Overworld/Battle/Catch, and the game is better for it. I hope this mechanic is around to stay, but who knows. If it isn't, I think I'll be looking more forward to Let's Go Johto/Sinnoh then I will be the main series.

That's beautiful man! I need to hunt one down...my kid was mesmerized with play with Evee option. This is a good game...I get why the hardcore competitive Poke bros aren't into it but this is a fan fucking tastic version of the game for the non hardcore/lapsed Pokefans who might have kids.

Yeah but atleast I have peace of mind of knowing I can use it in competitive play after our journey together. I don't believe in using a Pokémon during the main story if I can't use it in competitive play. I've been like that since gen 1 and gen 2 when majority of the time I was just using those Pokémon in Stadium and Stadium 2.

In a nutshell, I've accomplished nothing and it was worth it.

Totally worth it!

Let me get this straight, so if there are three profiles on our Switch and each person has their own save, you need three Pokeball Plus controllers, or $150, for everyone to get Mew?

Would this make a good first Pokemon game?

It looks charming and I'm ok with simplicity in general...but I hopped around a stream of the first couple hours and nearly every single battle was won by just picking a single move and it was over. That easiness combined with the simplistic story may be a struggle for me, unless there's more than meets the eye.

I thought the problem was so overblown. I had no issues from the moment I started. It's relaxing having a free hand to adjust your comfort position.

I could use the parts the switch came with and have a regular controller instead of one third of one. I would rather play with a regular controller than one that fells like a step down from an NES controller.

It strikes me as incredibly short sighted and dumb, especially since having tons of options in configuring the joycons is a major selling point of the switch.
