Hey all,

I don't want this to be a "How great is Nintendo?" thread (because I love my PS4 too!) but I'm basing this thread on my own past memories with Nintendo hardware!

This Christmas can be potentially great for kids. I was thinking about it yesterday when I was playing Let's Go Pikachu. Some kids might wake up this Christmas to a Nintendo Switch along with Smash Brothers and Let's Go Pikachu. I know I'd have absolutely lost my shit waking up to something like that when I was young, it would have been amazing! And then on top of that they potentially have BOTW and Odyssey to look forward to too.

One of my fondest memories is waking up on Christmas to a Nintendo Gamecube and Super Smash Bros Melee and Super Mario Sunshine. It was such an amazing Christmas. Me and my brother poured hours upon hours into the GC and we loved it. All my cousins would come over and we would play Smash Bros for what felt like months, it really did create such amazing memories.

Same happened when I was really young with the Nintendo 64. We woke up to GoldenEye 007 and Banjo Kazooie. So many hours was put into the MP of GoldenEye.

This is part of why I love Christmas. Just seeing the joy that some of these games can create. Having Smash Bros and Let's Go Pikachu would have been an absolute blast when I was young and I think it would have been just as good as when I woke up to that GameCube!

Please feel free to share your own Christmas memories, I love hearing them!

Imagine to be born somewhere around 2013 and be 5 to experience the Switch... Suddenly I wish I was younger :(

I actually never got a console for Christmas, it was always on my birthday.

Though Christmas 98, Pokemon Blue and Ocarina of Time? IT WILL NEVER BE TOPPED.

Yes, sometimes I have the feeling that if it were not for Nintendo, kids would not have things focused on them in consoles

I'd imagine most kids nowadays play stuff like GTA, Fortnite, Call of Duty, and MineCraft. While not all of these games are focused on them, they'll play them regardless

That's why I say '' focused ''. GTA and Call of Duty are not games that children should play

If my nephews only had a PS4 I suppose that this Christmas I would give them Starlink and Spyro, little else.

Well, even when the rest of us were kids, we'd play or watch things that we perhaps shouldn't have

Well I'd imagine you could still get them Crash Bandicoot and Little Big Planet. The LEGO games are usually good stuff too

My parents originally got me an N64. Saw it under the Christmas tree, longed to open it. Then they returned it and got me a Dreamcast because they heard it was better.

My 3 year old daughter is, at this very moment, playing Mario on the 3DS, so I figure it's time for her to have very first Christmas with opening a present to be a game console, which will be the Nintendo Switch. She's way into Pokemon Go when my wife plays, so Pokemon Let's Go is hitting at the right time. It's going to be a pretty fun Christmas for her.

My best x-mas was getting a Playstation and a copy of FFVII. I know the Playstation classic is a bit lackluster but I think it'd be cool if some got it as a gift and got to play FFVII for the first time, along with MGS.

Of course the games are dated and most kids won't be able to get past the graphics so yeah, a Switch with BOTW and Mario Odyssey would be something else.

Yeah, that too. I was referring to news games. I did not remember that they had just released a new LEGO game

None of the game playing kids in my family really care about Nintendo or Nintendo games. It's all Minecraft and Fortnite.

With that said... I'm giving them Minecraft and Fortnite related gifts. I love seeing them light up when they get things :)

Hell yea. Pokemon, Spyro, Yo-Watch 3 about to drop in a few weeks, this is a really great time for the kiddos (and for all of us who still love bright and colorful things, I know this is peak gaming in the year for me rn)

My nearly seven year old boy is waking up with the exact combo as suggested by the OP. It's gonna be something for sure. I hope he likes Smash, cause I don't get it. Maybe playing it with him will 'help me see the light'.

Nowadays kids are all about Fortnite, gifting V-Bucks cards or something Fortnite-related is way better than Nintendo games.

I bought my daughter the Switch bundle with Pokemon Let's Go and the Pokeball plus. Can't wait to see her face Christmas morning.

My 5 year old is obsessed with Pac-Man. I'm thinking of getting him one of those Arcade 1up Pac-Man cabinets. They're only like 4 feet tall so it's the perfect height for him at this age.

A portable system that you can dock and use like a console. Come on, it's not hard to see the difference or the appeal. I've had plenty of folk take an interest in the system, just for that alone

Yes, it's cool, but acting like it's some Christmas game changer is just weird to me

I mean I got a gameboy as a kid and it blew me away so

Exactly, you were blown away by something that came out many years ago, and the poster I quoted said that it's specifically Switch that would be so amazing to get

Who's saying it's a Christmas game changer? Can't think of any in a long time anyways. It's just really cool to get a system like the Switch, especially with the overall lineup it'll have by Christmas. I think that's really the point made by the OP

I don't disagree but I reckon a PS4 + Spider-Man will make kids the happiest this Xmas.
There'll be some folk happy to get that bundle for sure. It's a damn fun game and finally does the character justice

What's the difference between someone getting blown away by the OG gameboy and someone getting blown away by the Switch?

The switch came out on my oldest's kid's 6 birthday. I mean, was I NOT gonna get it for her?
She was bouncing off the walls when we opened it up.

RE: Spider-Man, I get that and I enjoyed my time with it but I def see it as an "Older Kids" gift.

Do they ever.

Switch with Smash and Pokemon

PS4 with Spider-man and Spyro

Xbox One with Sea of Theives and Spyro

And all of them play Fortnite so you can't go wrong.

There will be kids this Christmas who will have their first ever exposure to Smash Bros. and seeing their favorite characters across dozens of franchises crossing over.

So kind of like every gift console/handheld ever? Getting cool shit on Christmas is overall awesome for any kid from any time.

I blew my my load when I got my GBA with Circle of The Moon for Xmas. If I was a kid now I probably would have felt about the same if I got a Switch or a PS4.

I don't mean to be a killjoy but I just don't see what sets this Xmas apart from any other.

I've been trying to get my mom to play something else other than bejeweled and solitaire. over the years I've got her a wii, a ps3, ds lite, 3ds, 2 ipads (long story) and left my dreamcast and gamecube at her place. her grandchildren only played on her ipad and only weird stickman games. I don't even know if kids idolize getting a nintendo for christmas like we did back in the day.

Are you really going to pull that now? I hardly see how a kid would care of it's a portable or a home console (Which is both), 5 year old me would be bouncing of joy regardless.

Wow that's amazing! Glad that she's so excited for ir and hope she enjoys it as much. :)

My 6yo son is getting Pokemon Go and a Switch. Surprised me and told me he wanted the Eevee version.

Ever since starting school all his classmates and he talk about are Pokemon haha. I guess I need to download the iOS game to help feed him some too lol.

This thread just warms my heart up with so many fond memories of the holidays. Funny enough, I was just talking to my sister about the Nintendo Switch and recommended it over the PS4/Xbox for my 5 year old nephew. I too love all my consoles, but there's a certain level of "kid charm" that Nintendo hasn't let go of, that I think is awesome for the younger audience. This will be my nephew's first "gaming console", and I am probably legit more excited for him to get it than he'll be.

I sort of get what you are saying, I think just for this generations console market, the slim/entry level console versions are getting some decent discounts and bundles so there will be more of a chance for some good surprises.
