As soon as I opened my door earlier in the week, is when I was like nope...I'm getting my mask.

Can't believe some would knowingly inhale that shit. Walking and breathing that in. I know some get used to it after alittle bit, but that's scary in its self.

Sacramento's even worse. They cancelled all of the universities in the area (Sac State & UCD) schooling but they kept all grade schools open the entire week until today. Completely crazy they let kids go to school in this.

I live in Sacramento area and my kid's school district was closed yesterday too, but they were the only district. Today, they're all closed. My coworkers were saying they closed alot of schools in the other districts early because there was such little attendance.

The reason given by Sacramento Unified as to why they remained open was something along the lines of, it wouldn't be fair to all the families who do not have child care in place, kids would end up outside in the smoke, so they're better off in school.

Lots of friends and colleagues in SF. It's insane that they're experiencing this.

That's insane. It's been completely disgusting for days on end. I would NEVER send my kid out in this.

Wow. Today, San Francisco has the #1 worst air quality in the world. The Camp Fire smoke has virtually shut down the town. All schools canceled tomorrow. It's a toxic, frightening smell.

I'm far enough from the fire to avoid the brunt of it but the air quality here was still bad enough to shut down the college across the street until Monday

this stuff's nasty

I had to go out yesterday for class, but they were cancelled today. It sucks here, as somebody with asthma it just feels terrible to go outside.

If you need masks check your local fire department. Mine were giving them out for free this morning.

Seeing 331 AQI makes me think about how stupid I was in some days in China. We had AQI days of 999 on several occasions and I went out to work in it. Fucking stupid I was.

The air quality in San Francisco today is the equivalent of smoking 11.5 cigarettes

Man...that's really bad. The Bay Area's air and weather is usually incredible...shame to see it like this.

What a nightmare this all is. Everyone is sick, coughing, and complaining of headaches and nausea. I've been wearing my N-95 mask for days now, but I fear it's starting to wear itself out. I fear for the future of our state. These fires are not going to get less common, that's for damn sure.

I traveled to New Delhi and Bombay 2 years ago and am currently in the Bay Area. The air quality now is absolutely nothing compared to how bad it was in those cities. You wouldn't even have air quality in its current state on the best days there. If you blew your nose, you could see black soot. Going outside was painful. At least this will pass, but I would not be surprised if there is an epidemic of lung cancer in Asia in the next few decades.

Yeah, it's ok to complain about the smoke, but really, hundreds of people will die from these and thousands more will lose their home, so anyone in a smoky area(I'm in El Dorado Hills outside of Sac) really can't complain when you literally still have everything, and are just losing the ability to walk outside for a week or 2.
This is a terrible attitude. i have a family member hospitalized due to the smoke here in the South Bay, an Era member lost their aunt to the smoke in Sacramento, and several folks getting hit with smoke in the 250+ AQI range and aren't taking care are likely to have severe health issues that can stick with them for life.

You can be bummed about the smoke and still realize the people losing their lives and livelihood has it way worse. So you can absolutely complain. Nobody is blaming people for getting their city burnt.

but yah, here's my view today:

did the smoke drive away the Honda dealership?

I made the mistake of not bringing a mask with me on Wednesday the health center on campus ran out, and I went home feeling not very well. I'm not sure when I'll be able to go back to work again, since it's only gotten worse since and I'm honestly not sure how long I can stay outside without an asthma attack.

I said this in the fire thread, but I work in downtown SF. The other day I saw people outside taking a smoke break and smoking cigarettes. When they were done they put their masks back on.
I saw this shit a couple months ago in Seattle as well. It always cracks me up.

One of the most understated effects of climate change will be all the smoke, and it's not like it'll be confined to coastal areas... shit blows, literally and figuratively.

I was planning on visiting family in Turlock and spending time in SF for Christmas.

Now I'm not sure if that will even be safe. Not to mention the air quality. I hated the air during my month in China. Might have to buy 3M respiratorsz

Friends just north of Sac literally were fanning out smoke from their apartments and homes. They are out of work until Monday. Crazy shit.

You'll be fine. It'll get better after the weekend.

Good thing I bought some N95 disposables last year. Unfortunately some aren't so lucky as mostly every store has ran out of stock.

I just got home after spending a week there. It was really fucking bad. I felt it in my lungs almost the moment I landed Sunday and it seemed to get worse every day. I didn't really leave my hotel room as much as I wanted to because the air felt so bad.

I feel for the people who have to live through that. Mask up if you can.

That's a good look. I'll stop by mine tomorrow and check.

My throat is really sore, and I have an awful headache. Feel all around gross.

It's really bad in Berkeley.

Had to wear a mask today while at work as the air inside has steadily gotten worse over the week. Driving from Fremont to Dublin has been extremely depressing as over the course of the week, visibility was going downhill. The appearance of actual smog (smoke & fog) this afternoon made Dublin look vaguely like Silent Hill - particularly when I was driving over 580 W.

Definitely going to try to bunker down for this weekend while hoping the rain comes sooner than what's projected.
