He directed Kubo and the two strings and the upcoming Bumblebee movie. Marvel must have confidence in him with only two movies under his belt one not released and another an animated movie. It's a decent choice to me but still going to miss James Gunn directing.

There has been a lot of mystery as to what will come of the Guardians Of The Galaxy post James Gunn. Production, release date and news have all been delayed due to the debacle of Gunn's firing. However, we here at The DisInsider have learned, from a very close source, that Travis Knight (Kubo And The Two Strings/The Bumblebee Movie) is a name being looked at to helm the third installment.

We couldn't put ANY effort into the OP

I mean even pasting the link from the actual site and not via Google?

Knight was on the studios shortlist to direct The Eternals, before the gig went to Chloe Zhao.

I immediately feel bad for this guy. Makes great movies and gonna get harassed like crazy on Twitter for taking over directorial duties from Gunn.

Shit, that's pretty good.

I just hope they still plan on using Gunn's script.

The question is if he will use Gunn's script and if so, how much will be tossed/changed?

Ehh. It's a choice, I guess.

Still won't see it though, regardless of who they pick.

This...is actually something I can get behind.

Kubo was fantastic, Bumblebee looks surprisingly good, so yeah, I'm all for this.

Someone with a good track record, but new enough that Marvel can remain completely in control. Sounds like a standard move.

I think Knight is using all these blockbusters he's doing to fund Laika LMAO.

I'm all for it, except that means he can't direct anything at the studio for a while.

Wonder how Bumblebee will review. At the very least it's gotta be better than the rest of the Transformers films. High bar, I know.

Good director but I'd say he deserves better than having to mop up this mess.
Just give him any random cosmic Marvel property. Nova, Silver Surfer, Moondragon, or whatever else.

Whether or not it's legit, Travis Knight is great going off of Kubo and what's seen of Bumblebee.

Although on some level, already lining up to do this instead of, say, Bumblebee 2 or another Transformers is a shame.

as much as I liked Kubo this feels like a massive step down until we see how Bumblebee ends up

still much better replacement than milquetoast Peyton Reed was for Ant Man

With everyone knighting (ha) over Gunn, I wonder if this will have an effect on GOTG 3's box office.
Personally, while Gunn did a great job with 1 and 2, I could care less if he's the one directing since I love the Guardian's themselves.

Kubo was really fantastic, I could see him being well suited for this project.

Curious to see how he does when I watch the movie in a manner that ensures they see as little profit from me as possible. Not sure that his work on Kubo will translate to a good live action movie, but Bumblebee was doomed to suck no matter who directed it so that may not be a good comparison point.

Any opportunity for a thread to promote how incredible Kubo is. A masterpiece.

I hope he does better than Gunn. Vol1 was ok and Vol2 was incredibly unfunny, only saved by its dramatic focus on family issues. I know this is a writer issue but I sure hope his involvement helps to improve it somehow.

Still pissed about Gunn. Who am I kidding, I'll watch it, but it won't be the same. I really want them to use Gunn's script, but at the same time, doing so just reveals the extent to which ditching him was just a hasty PR move, instead of the result of any real moral outrage. It's a joke.

Kubo was good, but Bumblebee looks like a lateral step for the franchise from what Bay has done rather than anything of a fresh, new take.

Interesting. I will say Bumblee looks world better than the previous Transformers films. Guy seems to be an up and coming talent.
