A rice cooker. I bought it 5 years ago and it's great.

Put the rice in, add the right amount of water and hit start. Nothing to worry about. You can watch something on Netflix or do anything else. As soon as the rice is cooked, the cooker switches to Heating-mode.

Get a rice cooker if you love rice.

Kitchen aid Mixer. You can use it to mix dough of course or whisk eggs. But they support attachments for meat grinders and pasta makers.

I actually put my rice cooker away years ago and prefer to make my rice on the stovetop.

The best investment for your kitchen are sharp, good quality knives.

rice cooker is good. The Instant Pot or other similar pressure cookers and a really good, reliable toaster oven is hard to beat, too.

Instant Pot does the job of a rice cooker, as well as a slow cooker & a pressure cooker (as well as a yogurt making feature that you will never use).

Obviously good essentials can't be replaced. But if you were gonna buy one kitchen 'gadget' - this would be it.

As an Asian, I can't live without a rice cooker. I need rice in there 24/7. Also garbage disposal system.

Rice is easy. Boiling water, add rice, stir once (to prevent sticking at the bottom) wait 11 minutes, drain.

I would say a good stove/oven.
Second would be a good fridge.
But if talking about smaller items, it depends on what you like to make. My list would be as follows.

- good knives
- microwave
- blender
- instant pot/rice cooker

I live in Japan and most good microwaves here have steam and toaster functions built in.
Also since I'm living in Japan a good rice cooker is a must. It can cook many things other than just rice.

I have an instant pot as well, and while not what I would call essential, definitely make life easier for many things. I actually do use mine for making yogurt, a lot.

Greek yogurt is expensive in Japan and I can make 3L of Greek yogurt for the same as it costs to buy 300ml.

I make lots of smoothies and sauces so I got a Vitamix blender. Peanut butter is also way to expensive in Japan, so I can make my own in the vitamix.

A good chef's knife, as others have said. Everyone in my family has all of these wacky knife sets that are all basically useless. Different colored handles and shit. And they do all their cutting with what looks like a paring knife or a steak knife.
Fuck that. A great chef's knife, held properly (hold the handle and bottom the blade itself nearest the handle) and kept sharp is super safe and super effective. They always freak out when I pick the big knife, but it's the only way to go.

Water boiler. I used to boil on a pot, but a dedicated boiler is 100x more convenient. I don't know why I didn't have one for most of my life.

Cooking rice is so easy, you can watch Netflix just as well when you boil it. It tastes a bit better in a rice cooker though (but we only have the shitty long grain in the west anyway, so just boil it to death why not).

The best investment (next to the kitchen itself) is indeed some good knives. That or a full automatic espresso machine.

Cheap sous vide immersion circulator from Amazon. As a meal prepper, being able to perfectly (and effortlessly) cook a ton of chicken breasts all at once is pretty awesome.

A dishwasher.

Not only does it save you a lot of time and effort, but it also helps keep your kitchen looking tidy by hiding all the dirty dishes and utensils. For some, this can significantly reduce stress as the kitchen will always seem relatively clean!
