First let me say sorry for your loss. My family and I give our condolences.

Today where I live yuba city ca had the worst air quality in the worl for a few hours. Schools and many government jobs have closed down. And many hospitals are asking people to stay inside and not come for appointment unless it's a medical emergency. This fire is shutting down a big part of northern california.

And now trump is coming which will cause more problems for the weekend.

Goddamn this is a legit disaster. Way more dead than i would have anticipated. Although you saw the very first footage and heard there was an incredible exodus of missing people and by that measure it isnt surprising.

Thank you all so much for your kind words. It's nice to see so much positivity.. god knows we need more of it (especially when Trump's response is to strip funding). I can only imagine what it's like for people who have lost a spouse/parent/sibling/son/daughter.

Again I hope people start turning up safe very soon. I also hope those who have lost their home and belongings/pets can start rebuilding their lives, even if in another town. My uncle lost everything. One positive out of all this.. obviously besides my uncle getting out alive.. is that my family has grown closer. It's incredible to see the general outpouring of support as well.

Special thanks to Aviator Irelia who actually went to a shelter to look up information. You are an awesome person.

Update

My aunt and and her two dogs are dead. They most likely suffocated from the smoke.. So at least they didn't burn while they were alive. They were found in the rubble of the house, which was completely destroyed.

My uncle is most likely going to come stay with my parents in Sacramento. Thankfully he has so much support.

I pray that others who are missing are reunited with their families, unharmed.

Thank you to everyone for your kindness and assistance.

I really felt like she would be found alive.

I'm so sorry for your loss. May your aunt and her doggos Rest In Peace.

Was just checking out this thread in hopes of good news.....

Today I was helping out with a big group of cats and dogs that were found stray after surviving the fire. They aren't chipped and work is being done to help find their people. They're all in pretty bad shape with injuries like burned paw pads, open wounds, burned off whiskers, etc. Some are very obviously in pain but fortunately it's all being managed with meds and good vet care.

Please go out and get your pets microchipped this week if they aren't already. Both the pet owners and their pets would be so much better off with each other right now. The pets are confused and scared and I'm sure their people are going crazy with worry.

631 missing people is a LOT more than I expected the number to jump up to.

It's been a week, usually the missing starts up high and decreases as people check in etc.

When the Oso Mudslide happened initially there were 40+ dead and 100+ missing, most of those missing were found.

It's been a week, I think most people have checked in by now if they could.. so yeah, this will be more than most can bare.

It sounds like this will be revealed as the worst catastrophe in the US* since Katrina. My thoughts are with Surfinn and so many others who have been devastated by this.

*Not for US citizens--that would be Maria and Puerto Rico

Do they know what started the fire?

Pg&e. Most likely. They just secured 3 million dollars for possible damages as insurance won't cover it. Their stock is taking.

They reported some electrical failure issue 20 minutes or so before fire started.

Google pg&e and camp fire. Investigation is still going. But they're getting sued already...

I'd imagine things wouldn't be looking good for PG&E. I'm sure major corporations that had outlets lost in Paradise like McDonalds and Burger King will not hesitate to strike a lawsuit against PG&E for damages. God help them if there was a Walmart lost in the fire.

They drew down 3 Billion. Not million. That's to cover over their insurance. Which is still not enough.

Damn Surffin sorry to hear that.

Live and work in the Sacramento area. As someone who has to work outside this air quality is so bad. Friends family basically lost everything due to these fires, donated a bunch of stuff to them.

Umm, we need to put up a proposition prohibiting building in fire country. Will likely not pass but we need to try. Over 600 missing is not fucking normal. Will only get worse as climate change takes effect.

Surfinn I'm....I'm so so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine such a thing. I have no idea how to even put into words the sorrow I feel. I'm glad that you're safe and that you have family with you. And I really hope that you all find comfort during these hard times.

So, if PSEG is the cause of the fire does that mean insurances that do not cover "ACT OF GOD" Clauses in contracts would be invalidated?

Thanks a lot man. I'm doing alright, but my uncle is obviously in need of support. Luckily he's got my parents who are taking him in for the time being and helping him back on his feet.

If they find that PG&E were responsible for this. I hope the state declines to bail them out. This is beyond a monetary settlement.

Wait, how did the number jump up by that much?!! That's not the direction it typically goes this long after a disaster.

Looking at some pics of Paradise, it's exactly the kind of town I'd like to live in when I'm older. It's just sickening, what happened.

The Woolsey fire came through the neighborhood I play basketball in pretty hard. I saw five or six houses that were completely burned down. The surrounding hills are scorched. The park itself somehow was untouched. The ground is burnt right up to about 10 feet from the edge of the property. The fire just skipped over it.

tree destroys your car cause of snow or hurricane insurance doesn't cover that unless you have insurance that covers act of god.

I'm just thinking can we update the naming of the clause to like "Entropy" or something lol. Kind of F'd up that "Acts of God" are these awful things like starting a huge wildfire or a tree falling on your car.
