I'm still in the October/November camp. Everything they did with the PS4 worked perfectly, don't see why they'd do things differently. Reveal the console including some PS5 exclusives at an event in Q1, blowout at E3, reveal in October/November, PSX2020 to look ahead on what the generation will bring along a new exclusive reveal.
Early 2020 would also mean you're cannibalizing potential PS4 holiday sales (but then again who cares because they'll just get their money a few months later).
Fall 2020 is what I'm going with.
Ayy! Squad!

Success now doesn't mean it will translate in the future. Losing Sony E3 is big for me since it's usually my favorite conferences except this year with MS's great one. I love them announcements shows *shrugs*
A big PS5 event would instantly wipe away not having an E3 though. No way folk would be able to resist the hype with that announcement.

what about their success right now signals they won't carry it into the next gen? MS buying studios this year? because that's where pretty much all of this doom and gloom started

Except Sony has all the momentum both when it comes to sales and upcoming games.
Of course they have the momentum but MS doing a great job recently and Switch is still on fire. To be fair Im just bummed that we lose an E3 show, dont care much who 'wins' next gen, even though it's probably Sony due to brand alone, I can just purchase a platform

you would think Sony cancelled e3 while simultaneously having *zero* 1st party games on tap for next year the way some of these reactions are going

"Fun to watch the reactions" , not "fun news".

Im happy for MS buying those studios, more polished games for me, hopefully.

I wont say it wont carry, just made it more competitive on their end. Now that I think about it, it's probably be better if they're on competitive mode so yeah im just bummed that we lose out on an E3 show

They are owning both MS and Nintendo pretty hard.

Cancel one conference and people will lose their minds, apparently.

I think some of the meltdowns boil down to the fact that they've gone from being so communicative and open with fans to being a total enigma. Compare what Sony was like at the start of the generation to now and it's night-and-day. There's no one you can go and communicate with on social media, they barely ever do interviews to talk about their direction, and now they're cancelling traditional press conferences.

It's hard to criticise them too hard because they've just had a year that's landed them with 20 awards nominations, had to increase their sales forecasts, and fixed a bunch of recurring issues that consumers had like name changes.

But it doesn't feel like they're in the trenches anymore. Does it matter commercially? Probably not, but I preferred when PlayStation was like constantly in communication and felt like it was totally connected with fans. It's just not like that at the moment, so I can understand why people are freaking out.

Yeah no, they ain't gonna go back to 500€ price tag.

I don't think so either but at this point in time who knows.

The X is selling well among the hardcore, so they could release a $499 console betting on the fact that MS will do the same, ('cause if they don't they would be stealing back the "most powerful console" title back from MS, which would be quite bad for them after Phil is doubling down MS having the most powerful hd next gen), and cutting the price a year, year and a half into next gen.

If both consoles are $499 is not as bad.

It was fun to watch for me.

I know a lot of people are taking this as a negative and reacting strongly. But tbh Sony doesn't need to have an E3 conference when it can announce new games, services and hardware in its own time and on its own terms.

I mean, they just talked about how they want to comunicate better with fans in the blogcast the other day.
The thing is that I think ESA pushed their hand on this one before they had the chance to properly announce what their plans are.
I do think that 2 PSX every year would be better for them. One in US and the other one in Europe. Let's wait and see what they come up with.

Even with the cross-play, psnow downloads and psn name changes news?

The name change situation is so dire that I don't know who's going to bother with it. They had that long message about all the issues that could happen if you decide to change your name lol.

Ps now is ok I guess but the selection is awful and it's way too expensive. Cross play should have happened a while ago and should have never been the issue it became.

so to summarize what the Leaker RuthenicCookie said:
https://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/9x2r4f/sony_is_not_going_to_appear_in_e3_next_year/

- No Bloodborne 2 in Sight
- New Ape Escape
- Big Psx Event 2019
- small Ps5 Reveal mid 2019 (plans might change)
- Ryzen 8 Core - Prize 500$
- PsVR2 with no breaker box -> will be inside Ps5 + new Move Controllers
- Anthem going to be delayed again
- Ps5 Release either March or November
- Next Dualshock Controller will have a Camera

obviously take it with a grain of salt - could be one of those leakers that have 1 legit info and spread 5 fake ones. (Verendus disease)

Isn't that the same argument as those who want PS5 to be a hybrid to copy Nintendo?
Why do you think Sony should change its plans to suit Microsoft? Because clearly, Microsoft gains from Sony's actions in your scenario and you haven't justified it.

You said it yourself; MS can only get away with 499 if Sony do the same. And in what insane universe would Sony deliberately HELP Microsoft?

It wasn't like Verendus got only 1 thing right. He got multiple things right and then flew to close to the sun with the BS. As for the rumors, outside of the cost, could be very feasible.

yeah true, and even someone like him, who had so many legit leaks was spreading many fake ones. So you never know, despite how trustworthy or proven some of those leakers are, which was my point

Yeah I know and holy shit, the trolls are out in force right now over this information. Guess the last few years has been tough for them so today is like having your cake and eating it too I suppose.

Verendus was good times, man. Even if the majority of it bs. He really was around at the perfect to whip people into a frenzy. Very beginning of a new generation, nearly all of Sony's studios working on mystery games, etc.
