I like how people are classifying this as ''throwing shade" - when Phil probably would have posted this exact same tweet if Sony was still in the lineup of companies. It's part of his position to hype the E3 show.

Microsoft can alreadly brag about it in the marketing materials: "We guarante the #1 console conference for this E3"

He would have, but 8 months before the show? Nope.

This is a reaction to Sony withdrawing.

MS has been killing at at E3 and now they are the only show in town for 3rd parties if they want extra exposure.

They are in a great spot for the end of the generation. Reminds me of all the goodwill Sony got at the tail end of the PS3 cycle that served them incredibly well early in the next cycle

I hope they have a good show at E3. More like their E32018 and less like XO2018.
Sony will have their own show anyway so nothing much has changed between the two.
The question now is who will reveal their next gen console first.

He's just replying to the official E3 tweet, not everything is a console war.
I think that pretends it's a vacuum

This really doesn't matter at all and no one will remember this tweet next year but who posts anything about an e3 lineup 8 months prior? Lmao

Ofc it was about Sony not coming to e3

The console war title is still lame though

I dont think they are in a good position to make a great E3 too. Much as Sony, their studios are all probably working on NextBox games. Of course they still have the already announced ones like Halo Infinity (cross gen probably), Gears of War 5 and maybe a new Forza Motorsport? But then again, Sony has TLOU2, Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding too.

I'm missing some context. I don't get the title, what I missed today?

Sony isn't doing E3 this year, neither a conference or any presence there at all apparently.

X0 was a side event, mainly to announce the acquisition of the two studios and as a special Inside Xbox episode (aka marketing).

And the major said it was close to E3 levels, which it really wasn't.

E3 is Microsoft's to win at this point, they have no competition.

They had the best showing at last E3 so I'm excited for 2019.

They had a great multiplatform show which I guess now will be more important than ever since pubs can't rely on nintendo or sony to showcase E3 stuff.

I used to joke that xbox shows were always great for finding out about games you'll play on other platforms besides xbox but now that will actually be needed.

Well Phil Spencer sits on the ESA board, he is also quoted in the ESA press release so of course he would reply to it.

I expect Microsoft's E3 2019, as far as hardware goes, will be like E3 2016, the announcement of Project Scorpio, a TFlops figure and CG render of the motherboard. They'll talk a lot about Project xCloud which they said would be having public beta testing in 2019. They might even show of the design of the low-cost streaming console, but most likely not the traditional next gen Xbox.

They'll definitely announce more studio acquisitions. They'll have a full trailer for Halo Infinite (which is coming in 2020).

Sony's been good at giving Microsoft and Nintendo open PR goals this year. Real good.

Cant blame them. Anyway, I'm still pretty excited for E3. Some of the studios MS has acquired has had games in development. We'll probably see some there.

Phil would have made the same tweet if Sony had an E3 set. He tweets a lot if you haven't noticed.
