Nah, it was my reading the article and looking at what you linked from it. I'm in no way suggesting that you haven't acquired additional information since April to suggest 2020 is more is a valid than 2019, just that you already had that stance anyway, so this thread isn't really offering much new information in that regard.
Sure, and if/when I have new info and can confirm that it's true, I'll report it!

I think 2020 is pretty much confirmed by now.

The only question is: Early 2020 or Late 2020?

I thought Death Standing was even on the polishing stage. I am sure I read that somewhere so it should be very early 2020.

We'll see but I was always thinking 2020
Days Gone
Last of Us 2
Ghost of Tsushima(sp?)
Death Stranding

None have been released and only one even has a date, the others haven't even been given a release window. They still have big games to release on PS4, they're not done yet

2020 sounds about right for the PS5. 2019 feels like a bit too soon to be honest.

The PS5 version should be a patch for the game you already own on PS4 that makes it native 4k and 60fps when you download it on PS5.

Thats it.

Anything else in this day and age is dumb.

I want a PS5 packaged version of TLOU2 though, and if they can improve more than just framerate and resolution i'm down for a remaster.

I'm sure Sony made a pretty penny from TLOU Remastered on the PS4 instead of it being a free download for PS3 owners

Posted this in the other thread before it was locked: A March 2020 release makes perfect sense. It'll allow dedicated early adopters to get the system without the supply shortages that come from holiday releases. Then when the holidays do come, there will be a greater supply of hardware and more games released. Seemed to work perfectly as intended for the Switch.

I feel like Sony will follow Nintendo's playbook with this since it worked out so well for them.

They both announced the price at E3 2013, Microsoft announced their price at their 9:30am conference, then Sony announced their price at 6pm that same evening, and it was $100 less.

No they revealed the console a long time before Xbox revealed the One. They had months of mindshare built up before the One reveal. E3 just sealed it when they undercut on price and revealed no DRM. PS5 vs XB4 will be a new battle I think. They both know to not get beat on price or date or specs. The new battleground will be probably BC and streaming services.

How I envision it is 2019 would be Days Gone, Dreams and Ghost of Tsushima in that order with roughly the same launch dates as the games this year.

2020 would be mostly barren except for small titles like Concrete Genie. Then they save up their big hitters like TLOU2 and DS as their vanguard for the PS5

Lol they won't ever waste the PS4 huuuge user base to make these games exclusively PS5 launch titles. I am sure they will be cross gen.

That'd hurt PS4 christmas sales, and they have important PS4 games for the next two years. More likely spring announcement in 2020 and release in the fall.

This is the most reasonable thought.
I can see them emulating the same reveal/release schedule of the PS4.

Revealing a month or two before the holidays would only dampen their Q4 sales by people holding off for the PS5.

Welp, if Kotaku says it, it's 2020.

I expect one of them launch 1H 2020 especially now that Switch has done it successfully, a 6-9 month between the 2 would give each breathing room and do good for both consoles. Lots of people who would get only 1 console in November would probably get both that way, me included. Xbox is getting more attractive with the new investments in 1P and things like BC and Gamepass. I think MS will likely go first, they seem more disruptive lately while Sony will go for the traditional fall season. Though Sony skipping E3 could also mean a reveal closer to launch, like Nintendo did it, a PS Meeting in October perhaps, or PS Meeting morphed into PSX 2019 (perhaps even for launch fall 2020)?
Nintendo could announce Switch in October for a next year release only because they knew it wouldn't make much difference to how many Wii U they'd sell during the holiday and they were very eager to replace it.

But Sony isn't going to announce PS5 for next year just before the nov / dev period. Not happening IMO. That would seriously decrease their holiday sales (both hardware and software).

The Switch was a special case because Wii U was a commercial flop. But PS4 is a tremendous success so this is a very different situation. For Sony the best launch window is more than ever Q4.

Do you see any possibility of a first half 2020 release?

I was kind of wondering about it mostly because Microsoft started talking about their next console last E3, which felt a bit odd if they were going to hold another E3 where they weren't really talking about it, but announcing it for real 18 months beforehand felt too early.

Everyone also seems to really be moving it to get their last games out the door in 2019.

That said, my assumption has still been like 85%+ chance both are Fall 2020.
I think Microsoft simply wanted to let us know a traditional console was still coming since they were also announcing their streaming service.

Oh well I hope Dreams is as good as I'm expecting it to be (as someone with a lot of creative ideas for it) and I can bury myself into that for a couple of years!

The good thing about 2020 is that it means the tech inside the PS5 will be just that bit better than of it were a 2019 console.. bring it on, the graphics will be utterly insane. Native 4K60fps TLOU2.. and that won't even be representative of what the next gen consoles will truly be capable of 2/3 years down the line. Loft.

Anything else in this day and age is dumb.

They can have "PS5 patches" for current-gen only games that enable 4k/60 fps, and then release later Fully Enhanced Editions with all DLCs and 4K/60fps, improved textures, better effects, etc., all stored on PS5 bigger Blue-ray discs without need of massive patches.

Oh, talking of release dates... for an unconventional slot wouldn't summer 2020 be a pretty great time? Timing it with the Tokyo Olympics perhaps? Maybe that matters less since PlayStation feels more of a European/US focused business.. but it would be nice Sony advertising at their home games and getting a lot of worldwide eyes on..

I like the idea of a summer 2020 release. Late 2020 feels like we'll be feeling a bit of a drought games wise to get us up to that stage.

With the way playstation business is doing, why on earth would they shoot themselves in the foot and end that in a few months ? It's so obvious the release was either 2020 or later.

I've always felt that it would release in 2020. Too many first party games coming out in 2019. Once Sony gets those out of the way, I think it'll be full steam ahead. Sony not being at E3 makes me wonder about Last of Us 2 and whether that game will launch on PS4 and 5 simultaneously.

I wish they would go semi-full backwards compatible, similar to Microsoft. Sadly, I assume it'll just be PS4 backwards compatible.

Imagine. All E3 raging. Microsoft putting on a stellar show. Game after game. A tonne of money, promotion, marketing.

Online, Sony just release this with a 'PS5 coming 2020' logo
Yes, just imagine what message would that send to the consumer? Too me it would sound like: "We are done for, we can't compete with the superior hard- and software of Microsoft, let's rush PS5 out of the gates! Make a quick teaser, we have nothing prepared! Panic!"

Sony isn't in any position to panic. They'll stay on control of the situation. Don't worry. ;)

Dreams was probably PS5 all along! What an awesome launch title that could be, wow!

However, I still hope it launches next year for PS4.

Why would they completely go radio silent for almost an entire year and a half?
why does not announcing the ps5 in 2019 = radio silence?

No E3 presentation and no PSX...Dude PS5 coming out Fall 2019.
Most third party developers will be releasing cross generation games so they weren't getting early devkits early and they're not really the best barometer.
bro...just got off the phone with chief...he said let go
