Usually about $60. I like to have a little cash in case of emergency where I don't want to use a card.

None, usually. I only use my debit card, or my phone using a money transferal app.

But due to some recent travel I now I have around 200DKK, a couple of GBP, and one EUR. There's no reason for it, I'm just lazy. Oh, and I also have 100SEK (my own country's currency) which I'm now gonna use to buy ice-cream with.

either $0, or I'll have like $40 in two twenties that I've randomly took out at the bar and never used.

I have one of those slim wallets so usually none at all.

I consider cash to be "free money" basically. Like, "oh, shit, I have money?"

Most shops can't even process cards if their internet goes down. I spent 3 years working for a point of sale company, credit card processing outages aren't that uncommon.

There was a day either last year or the year before where First Data was down for an entire business day and something like 40% of merchants on the east coast just couldn't run card payments.
sure but

a) this is incredibly rare (widespread outage). You probably have a better chance of winning $1000 in the lottery based on how often you make transactions.
b) if it's NOT a widespread outage.. then you just go next door to the next store.

I mean, you said you couldn't think of a single incident where you couldn't use cards and I just gave and incredibly simple and common one. What if you go next door and they're using the same internet provider or credit card processing platform? Because that's really common too, especially in smaller towns or cities. Whipping out some cash will always be easier than going to another store.

Around £50. I mostly use it for giving people tips and change for the vending machine at the gym.

Edit: forgot to add. The best Chinese takeaway round these parts does cash on delivery only. So I have it for them also.

I usually withdraw $100, then use it on cash only food places until I get down to like $15, then go make another $100 withdrawal.

That usually lasts me a month or more though, I don't use cash a lot.

Right now I'm at around $70.

$100, I stopped using cards for incredibly small amounts like say under $20 since I was just spending too much that way.

$0

It really annoys my wife whenever we need cash - valet, delivery, etc. But why doesn't she carry cash? My wallet doesn't even hold cash. Is having cash some type of thing men are responsible for?!

Takeaway cash is essential. Never know when the need for a curry will take hold.

I usually have somewhere in the region of the national debt in shrapnel in my wallet. Sometimes it won't fit in my pocket without emptying some out.

I use cards for everything unless I'm traveling, then I'll carry $100 with me regularly just in case I see a food spot I want to try and they don't take cash. I don't really explore in my day-to-day job, and all my regular spots take cards, so it's just more convenient for me. I'll always order food for pick up instead of delivery, since I live pretty close to everything, and I actually don't think there's a place in my town that doesn't take cards. The big city near me is different, though. I always take out cash when I go in there.

I haven't seen anyone write a check at retail in the states in almost a decade.

I generally carry about $100, usually as a backup. Almost always pay with my card.

I never have cash. Sold something on CL awhile ago and was really impressed with how $100 bills look because I hadn't held one in YEARS!! Could've been fake for all I knew lol

But sometimes it's annoying charging something that's $2. Gonna start carrying at least $60 now at all times.

I try to keep a handful of singles and a couple of fives in my wallet at all times in case I need to tip a valet, but other than that, I never ever use cash.

I generally always keep $20, and $3 in change for the bus, just in case.

Yep. Living in Florida and having to deal with hurricanes I've experienced this every so often.

Haven't used cash in years. I've had a debit card since I was 11 (I'm 26 now) and ever since chip and pin and more recently contactless, I just don't see the need for actual cash.

Hardly ever anything in my wallet.

I have like $50 in my car's locked glove box "just in case" and I keep a small stack of $5 bills in my work briefcase in the case I hit a happy hour and need to tip.

I think literally everywhere in Canada accepts credit card. I probably haven't used my debit card in 5 years.

$0. The only time I have money on me is when someone either gives me some for whatever reason, or when I have left over money from the ATM at places that only take cash.

Usually anywhere between $0 and $200. Just depends on if my roommates have paid me back for stuff in cash or not.

Unless I'm specifically planning on paying for something in cash, usually just £10-20 in case of emergencies or for snacks. Otherwise I but everything on debit card.
