Why the hell would they cancel E3 more than half a year in advance, I don't buy it either.
I can't confirm the E3 rumor, but if it's true, that's yet another massive sign that the PS5 is NOT coming next year (on top of all of the game developers who keep telling me that the PS5 is not coming next year and the widespread industry belief that the PS5 is not coming next year).
"To celebrate 5 years of PS4 we are happy to announce that we will not be at E3 2019 because we have fuck all to show there that's new. We were planning to release PS5 in Fall of 2019 but those plans got totally fucked so... yeah, nothing new. Uh, Days Gone coming April. Thanks."
I personally think skipping E3 2019 might make 2020 more likely. We've already seen enough of TLOU 2, Death Stranding (especially if we see more at the Game Awards), and Ghosts. Sony's got a huge lead. Just wind down the generation without teasing anything next gen. Skip E3 next year and maybe just drop a trailer/release date for TLOU 2 or Death Stranding. Don't tease anything next-gen (which Microsoft likely will). Come back huge in 2020 with an event early in the year showing off the hardware and teasing some games, then bring the boom at E3 2020 with extended trailers and gameplay of the launch lineup, service plans, and (hopefully) backwards compatibility so I can take all my PS4 games to PS5.

His post could be anything...and i don't think he was referring to the Reddit post. I don't think they're cancelling E3. Maybe he means they're acquiring a studio or announcing something that'll shock everyone today. But even if they are cancelling E3 they probably have a good reason.
Not to mention having several big exclusives announced and still to release, unless of course PS5 would be backward compatible.

Genuine question, what exclusives are coming to PS4 next year? I know about Days Gone, but what else? You would think either Ghost and/or TLOU2 but nothing about a release has been revealed yet.
Yeah, the only reason they'd cancel E3 is because they have 0 new announcements to make. If PS5 were 2019 they'd have plenty to show and talk about so they wouldn't cancel it.
Might as well start throwing random shit out there. If it affects the next-gen consoles in any way, then here is my outlandish idea:

Doesn't make sense to release PS5 next year. They will have 4/5 games coming out next year, Ghost, TLOU2, DS, Dreams, and DG. Then you add maybe 1 unannounced game for 2020, some 3rd party game, Bluepoint's remake and stuff the rest of the months with multis and AAs until November 2020.
Days Gone, Dreams, Concrete Genie, and Medievil are all coming next year. Along with whatever they have unannounced right now, which could be the Bluepoint remake among other things. Aside that, one, two, or all of the "three" are coming next year. Those three are TloU Part II, Death Stranding, and Ghost. My guess is both TloU and DS are next year while Ghost is 2020.
Well Benji did say that there is 1 major PS4 game unannounced.
They could announce the dates for them a few months in advance like GoW. I'd say TLoU and Death Stranding could come next year, but not sure about Ghost.
As far as games that actually have a 2019 window: Dreams, MLB 19, MediEvil, Concrete Genie and some VR + PlayLink games.
How would they be giving it to Microsoft? MS probably doesn't have anything coming out anyways, their study acquisitions are all still relatively new and we won't see the fruits of their labour until mid-next gen. If Sony does skip 2019 for E3, Microsoft's show will just be third party games and maybe Halo.
2020 Sony E3, if this rumour is true would be fucking insane- PS5 launching with Horizon, GoW2 trailer, new Nd IP teaser, Demon's Souls remake by bluepoint, new GT.... ok maybe I'm being way too optimistic but Sony is the worldwide leader in consoles, even if Xbox comes out first people will be waiting on Sony to make their move before deciding.
