Ah, man. John is on fire. I swear that man never rests! Can't wait to tuck into this video...
I've got the game, but my wife has been playing it. I've not had a chance yet.

Amazing looking game, thanks for the analysis. Still amazed how well the gameplay holds up, as much as Insomniac improved and expanded the structure in their future games it still boils down to the fantastic foundations they built with Spyro 1.

I also appreciate Toys For Bob adding a Platinum headset audio preset for the collection too, music is A+

Thanks for the analysis John. I really hope they patch the performance issues. Hopefully if we do get a PC port, 60fps won't be a problem.

Anyone have a summary handy?

Sure, most of the video is a DF Retro but below are the salient points regarding the new console comparisons.

- Built from ground up using UE4
- SSS added to Spyro's wings
- Loading times are twice as long as the PS1 version.

- XBO: 1600x900p // PS4: 1920x1080p // PS4 Pro & XBX = both 1440p
- All versions employ TAA.
- All effects and graphical features are exact same, only advantage XBX seems to have is cleaner looking shadows.
- The game does *not* support HDR.

- All consoles have 30 FPS target however the game suffers from bad frame pacing.
- "The original games (PS1) run slightly more consistent which is something you wouldn't expect"

- Overall, the upgraded visuals are fantastic, the frame rate is stable despite the bad frame pacing and it plays better than the original games.

The games look gorgeous. But frame pacing and 30fps is a shame. I wish it had an optional 60fps mode.

No HDR is a shame.

Lol at the mediocre X version. I'm glad I have no money to buy this crap honestly, I would've been upset at 1440p.

It can probably push 1440p/60 on a game that looks like this.

The 1440p doesn't bother me given the style of the graphics, but bad frame pacing is a deal breaker. I'm so pissed. I've been excited since this was announced and now I'm not going to play it.

Nothing said about the awful motion blur I presume it was too much for me stopped playing it because of it

Wish they could atleast just freaking add a toggle in the game settings to lower or disable the motion blur

Guess I'll have to wait for PC version to turn off motion blur and play at 60fps+*

Standart 1080p vs 900p. Now, about that frame pace issues...

Great video btw. I was hoping for SoTN DF video, but its almost dead dream besides the RE video.

I knew the X version was running at a low resolution - I mentioned this in the other thread. It doesn't look anywhere near as sharp as Crash which is native 4K.

The frame pacing makes this unplayable for me tbh. PS4 Pro here. Felt like sub-30 fps with camera movement giving it jerking feel.

Hopefully they can fix the frame pacing before too long. Was really interested in getting this, but between other games on my plate and the launch roughness, I think I'll wait a bit.

Probably my favorite video series of all time, I watch every single one. The quality and work that goes into these is just fantastic. Well done!

I'm genuinely shocked at the motion blur complaints because I thought it looks amazing and adds a lot to the game. I would never include a complaint about this feature since I think it's a great thing.

Would love to see a patch fixing the framepacing and making it X enhanced.
It...is X enhanced. Absolutely. If it weren't, you'd be seeing 900p instead.

Based John Linneman (and other DF crew), you are a treat for us purists and enthusiasts. Keep doing what you're doing buddy!

On topic: surprised by the kinda underwhelming X version. Wonder why its such a step down from Crash. Isn't it the same dev and engine?

Nope. Crash uses its own engine. This is a different developer using Unreal Engine 4.

Toys for Bob did assist with Crash, though, but they weren't the primary developer.

.
Fair enough for those who like it but can't say no to giving the consumers options to please everyone, those who dislike it can lower or disable it. Those who like it can keep it enabled. Win win.

I seen an increase of games lately in console version in settings they allow you to toggle motion blur which is nice, so I expected this game to have one as well which it sadly didn't, due to this selling the game tomorrow I can wait for PC version no problem

The more I think about the frame pacing the more pissed I'm becoming. Time to start hitting up the devs on Twitter or however else I can.

Well between no HDR, framepacing issues, and my distaste for a lot of the redesigns I guess I'll be skipping this game.

Indeed, that engine is called Alchemy Engine (They purchased it in 2003, was used for Crash Nitro Kart, the current incarnation used in NST is based on Superchargers, Imaginators is similar but less graphically advanced, both are based on a revision around 2013 with Swap Force) and it was used previously in the Skylanders games developed by both Vicarious Visions and Toys for Bob. I can only assume that the engine is no longer going to be utilized by VV since they usually work hand in hand with Toys for Bob.

Also, the team that worked on NST was smaller, around 40 out of 200+ employees in just 18 months (Around November 2015, not to mention their work on Thumpin Wumpa Islands in Skylanders Imaginators)

A bit of dodgy frame pacing and 1440p won't stop me enjoying this awesome remake. The graphics and art style are brilliant and the gameplay and improved controls make the game hold up very well.

An HDR Patch and a fix for the frame pacing would be nice though.

Yeah the visuals look fantastic but the actual performance and resolution on the Pro consoles is pretty bad. 30fps with dodgy framcr pacing is honestly not very good. Motion blur looks awful too.

I'm ambivalent about the motion blur. On one hand, Ilike it because makes the game feel "smoother" to view and play, despite being 30fps. Totes anecdotal, of course.

That said, it's been disorienting in a few scenarios - it's been REALLY hard for me to see what's going on in some of the supercharge scenarios, when I had no trouble with them in the original games. The blur is just too intense, and I can't see what's coming!

Is it just me? Maybe it's just me.

Yea the frame pacing is crazy bad

Bloodbornes I never really noticed but here it's really noticeable maybe because you can move much faster plus it just feels way worse

Might just wait to play the pc version and also so I can reshade it into classic colour scheme

The warm colour scheme is too warm

I almost picked this up yesterday but the rumors that it ran at the same res as the pro kept me away. Surprised and disappointed that it's not at least 1800P on the X.

Forced parity? By whom?
I guess it seems like the X version didn't get used to it full potential.
It is kind of strange that there's a clear benefit when between the base consoles, but on the mid gen consoles they output the same resolution.

I wouldn't want to assume Sony would do something like that, so maybe there's just a technical reason.
Benefit of the doubt lol
