They are just listing facts.
A bunch of developers worked for years on improving the firmware - why cant they be proud/happy for what they added since 1.01 ? Firmwares dont just appear out of thin air.
I think Sony made a mistake on its infographic.
The 86.1 million number is indeed sell in as of Sep 30th 2018.
The 777.9m software number was originally reported as sell through as of June 30th 2018. But the infographic labels it as 'sell in'.

Just read the headline, PS+ games, of course it was "free" with PS+
If FIFA and COD weren't a thing, Playstation 4 would be at about 40 million now, not 80. So many people must buy a PS4 just for one of those two games, every year. It's one big reason Sony handhelds fail, those casual players don't care about PSPs and Vitas.
I vaguely remember fanboys arguing about which console had more firmware and feature updates last gen so it is important to some people.
That bundle confirmed that there are not going to release a $199 PS4 for December so the switch will destroy in December.
I thought at least one exclusive sneak into the top 5 games. I guess sony owners love call of duty and fifa.

I think they put it on Plus way too early, probably earlier than the massive takeover RL did.
They sold 75.1M games between June and September
So the total is 853M games sold as of end of september
So yeah just under 10 games per console

How abysmal that Fifa is most popular twice and COD. PSVR only the saviour for me this gen, If i didnt have that look at the yearly iterations and sequels i'd be inundated with.
