I think ketchup is the worst condiment ever invented. It's basically red liquid sugar.
I like the middle ground of the bread slice hotdog buns, they hold it better, and have that right amount of bread-dog ratio
I think in stores they call that "top sliced buns" or sommit similar

Those look great, but mainly cause its more like a bacon sandwich with a hot dog in it. If you're having a basic hot dog, sliced bread works in a pinch but it'd still rather have the hot dog type rolls.

spicy mustard and relish is always my go to
not a big fan of mayo
i like miracle whip more, but that's way too sweet to put on a dog
