Guys, can we please just go back to idolizing the real content creators?

DigitalFoundry isn't content creation then? because all they do is put graphs over other people's content.

Analysis, production planning, detailed commentary etc is all transformative, it's creation.

Streaming the same game every day for 8 hours and yelling at kids while doing it is not creation.

I suggested actual creators who fit the description in this thread several pages ago. Feel free to actually read through the thread.

Out of the 3000 hours he has streamed this year I'm sure not even 3 hours (0.1%) of it would be him yelling.

This is a terrible perspective. You think people are tuning in for the game? They're tuning in for the person who's entertaining them. I watch TSM_Myth all the time and he primarily streams Fortnite. If he switches to a different game I'd watch him play that. People watch their streamer of choice because that person entertains them not just because of what they're playing.

That's a completely different argument. Saying "Ninja is a bad person because he chooses not to stream with women" is a completely different argument than "he hasn't done anything of real consequence" which is an argument many people in this thread have made.
If you think that poster was sarcastically quipping that he was a monster because he didnt contribute to society and not for the other reasons idk what to tell you.

Of course. Why do you think millions of people want to watch Fortnite if they can play it for free everywhere? They want to watch HIM play Fortnite.

And a lot of Twitch personalities just talk, or stream life, or do something else.

You make it seem like anyone could do this. So why don't you? You could make millions!

huh? not everyone wants to sit at home all day playing video games while screaming at their headsets or talking about their weekends with a chat window.

then again, not everyone can fake their enthusiasm and be forced to play a game they don't enjoy playing any longer just 'cause it rakes in the views. not to mention be a PR machine for these publishers. i never said anyone can do it.

I was referring to this post.

Ninja has actually helped grow Twitch as a platform. Everyone else has benefited this year even people who live stream on different platforms like YouTube. He also changed what people thought was possible as a Twitch streamer. I think that counts for helping to evolve the medium.
That's one thing a Amazon owned company needs... help.

In what way is it dumb? He said he helped twitch grow as a platform, and I'm sure Amazon don't need any help with growth.

Because just putting money behind something or being owned by a giant corporation doesnt make the product popular or help it grow. If it did MS's streaming platform would be as big as Twitch's.

I don't understand why people think the game awards need to do this, most people watch the show because of the fucking trailers, not to see a manchild receiving an award for shouting like a 12 years old in front of an audience.

Why aren't people liek Angry Joe, Dunkey or others up for this award? Even Jim Sterling who I really dislike seems to be more of a content creator.

Is it just streamers? Are they not popular enough?
We would end up with the same problem with Dunkey that many people have with the previous winners (and current nominee). Racial and homophobic slurs isn't the kind of content people here want highlighted and awarded.

Angry Joe has been nominated in earlier year. But yeah I'd assume popularity has a lot (everything) to do with who gets nominated.

Why is this called "Best Content Creator" and not "Best Streamer" anyway? Are any of the nominees not streamers?

Few of them are primarily Youtubers. I think it's pretty cool though that one of them isn't English language Youtuber/streamer who got nominated. WillyRex does his content in Spanish and his videos seem to break 1 million views easily.

That said, the show could go on without having an award like this. Same with the Esport awards. Kyle Bosman should be sweeping the table anyway with Box Peek, but alas he works on the show so that can't happen.

Hi, I'm Greg. I talk about video games online. Used to do it at IGN. I won Trending Gamer in 2015 and gave a speech. Now, I talk about games with my friends at Kinda Funny. I'd love for you to give us a shot, but I understand if you're busy.

Hi Greg, as both a Trending Gamer award holder and commissioner of the League of Heels, do you feel like there's anyone more deserving of this prestigious award than one "Dirty" Dan Ryckert? Inquiring minds would love to know.

Ninja is so much bigger than this story people here always bring up. Yeah it sucks but the things he has done for charity, for gaming representation as a whole far outweighs it in the eyes of the public. The dude goes on mainstream talk shows with a smile and a well spoken attitude to educate people about gaming and steaming, that's kind of huge in and of itself. I'd say he should definitely win.

Gaming representation? You do realize that gaming is just a piece of media that people consume in their leisure, right?

I stopped following Geoff on Twitter because it kept showing me that he "liked" all of Boogie's bullshit. That was all that had to be said. The Game Awards is a sham and a shame. We should be better than this by now.

Video games still have a bad rap among many, unfortunately.

Gamers do nothing to alleviate that. They are insular, attack criticism of their favorite products, and throw hissy fits over nonsense like an insider being wrong once or a lack of puddles.

We are in a thread where people are literally making up excuses for a guy who doesn't want to stream with women. I can guarantee you are going to definitely have a "bad rap" among people you are purposefully excluding because it's easier than dealing with gossip.

He can smile and educate people about video games on talk shows all he likes, but, at the end of the day, he contributes to the anti-mainstream boy's club mentality that drives women and minorities away.

Lol that doesn't make any sense. The vast majority of people don't know about his controversy they just see a dude on Ellen with bright hair. Only a very small portion of people who are exposed to someone like Ninja through mainstream mediums will dig deeper to find anything like what you're talking about.

A little girl who sees him on television and wants to play video games is going to run smack dab into sexism the second she starts watching streams. Any woman will.

Everything's hunky-dory as long as the "mainstream" is over there. They can learn about gaming but heaven forbid they want to be a part of it.
