I guess I just don't find what he does entertaining, and for being informative, the way their stuff is formatted (watching a 2 hour podcast to cover 30 seconds of gaming news) just doesn't really make sense to me.

I'm not doing what he's doing because honestly I'd consider it a waste of time lol. I guess if I got paid to do it I'd think otherwise, but never in a million years did I think people would get paid what they do for doing what they do. It's kinda sickening to me, and I don't really get why people put their hard-earned cash forward for it. I don't get it at all.

People have been paying for entertainment since the beginning of time, I don't get what is so hard to understand.

Everyone has different tastes for entertainment, you clearly don't find this entertaining, but millions of others do.

Ah, that's what Ninja looks like. Only heard of the guy because he makes millions an hour on Twitch but never actually seen him.

Very happy for Tim. Verified in Instagram, Forbes 30 under 30. Soon we will be saying Greg who?

:P

Kidding. I don't know if it's deserved or under what merits the runner ups are chosen but it makes me so happy to see someone as Tim who is very enthusiastic and passionate about what he does and his vibes are so contagious to get recognized with this.

Paying for something like a movie (which cost millions to make by professionals who are talented and who get education for what they do etc.) is different than donating to people who spend their days talking about video games and playing video games.

Yet again the biggest names on Twitch (and mixer, youtube, etc.) all are providing entertainment. This is not something just everyone can do. Sure ANYONE can stream just like ANYONE can make a movie. I can go buy some equipment and make a movie right now, doesn't mean anyone will like it.

You have to have the right personality (or be godly at the game you play) to pull in large numbers and make a career out of streaming/playing video games. This is literally more than "just" playing video games.

A lot of this list makes sense, then there's the two from Twitch. Why would a person who vets affiliates and the person who handles their finances make this list, especially considering the company they're in with designers, founders, and media.

I've paid to see movies that most certainly did not cost millions and were not made by talented professionals. Hell I made a 'movie' in college as part of my course, I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to pay to see that and leave feeling satisfied.

This is no different than anything else in the entertainment industry, some people are just better at entertaining than others. That's why the people who make bank on Twitch are the 1% and the other 99 are struggling to get a dozen viewers consistently. It's not just something anyone can do.

And I don't even watch Twitch

I guess this sort of hones in on what I'm saying. I don't understand why anyone pays to see what these people are offering and leave feeling satisfied. I guess with some streamers, you can see the amount of time they've poured into a game.

With YouTubers who just kinda sit around talking about the latest gaming news, or play video games and are as good as the average Joe down the street from me, I don't understand it. I honestly do think an aspect of it is a little predatory - these people/groups make their audience feel like they're included somehow (but they really aren't) and then ask for money, but hey, that's just my opinion.

Opening post and link doesn't explain what a 30 under 30is. What is it?

I see I guess 30 people that are under 30 years old? Why were they selected? I have friends and relatives under 30 years of age

What if you use these channels as a Podcast on your way to work? I pay for a newspaper, why wouldn't I pay for a gaming show?

Maybe because the people who work at that newspaper went to school to study journalism and actually get of their butts to go out and find stories to write about, do research for, etc. They are the source, and they're professionals who have credentials.

While I do respect journalists, I'm not sure why becoming a game journalist (or in most cases these days, a game critic) requires a degree. If you are good at your job, you are good at your job.

So, you only listen to podcasts by people who have a degree in said subject? Because that makes listening to podcasts about tech, sports or cars a very difficult thing. Not all of these people will be journalists, some will be critics, fans, participants, etc. etc.

If someone has an interesting opinion on things, I'd like to listen to their opinion. That's why we've got columns. And they should be paid for offering their insights in my opinion.

I dont know why, but it feels really sad that only a couple of people on a list like this are actually game developers. Game devs remain hidden behind Producers and Business types
It should be noted that most of these people on this list either asked or applied to get on it as a status symbol. Most actual game devs under 30 aren't trying to get in on the social media aspect of their life. They have a much different career goal.

Oh wait, people have to apply to get on the list? lol.
So its just a list of people who said "Please pat me on the back" and Forbes said "Okay"

Many if not the vast majority of people on these lists are on them because of it .I have a close relative that works for Forbes and it's operated that way for as long as I've known them. In situations where the editors actually select people to appear in their articles, Forbes will approach them to ask but can be denied as well. I have no idea just how names are up for selection, but there are enough people for Forbes to still have to decide to select one person over another. There's of course some favoritism there. But I just wanted to bring up your comment on the actual game devs not being front and center, simply because they aren't trying to be.

His bio mentions being in a Fortnite tournament but either way it's not something older games are into that much.

Bummer this list has so many influencers......
I feel like commenting on your consumption is just leagues easier and less stressful than actually creating something.

Yeah, I definitely assumed that these were people who were voted for or chosen by committee or something that doesnt sound so self centered lol.

I guess I just don't find their interest or expertise any better than the average dude posting about games on the internet, and I don't think they should make the money they do for what they do.

I listen to Retronauts pretty regularly, but I'd argue that it's different because they're offering something that no one else really is, with an expertise that no one else in the industry really has. KF's best content when I still watched was always when they had a guest on with something interesting to say.

Cool to see DoubleLift on there.

None of these people will ever top 30-under-30 Media Luminary Griffin McElroy tho.

So it was completely based on your subjectivity and taste.
