This is a tough one since they all have massive problems. Probably Dragon Quest but I did enjoy all 3 games.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for me.

I initially put 20 hours into the game and dropped it, just wasn't getting into it. Went back to it a few months later, everything clicked and I got hooked. Fast forward 150 hours later and I love it!

Persona 5: Slowly but surely getting into it. I feel like I need more time per session for this whereas Xenoblade was much easier for pick up and play. I beat the first palace and I'm finally starting to really enjoy the game although I am worried about how easy Normal difficulty will be (Hard was just too RNG for me).

Dragon Quest XI: Have about 15 hours in on Draconian Mode so far. I really enjoy it but the god damn music is making me not play the game, like, for real. Not the quality, I'm not as prone to that as others but the god damn looping of the over-world music! It feels like it loops every 20 seconds on repeat. It's driving me nuts! I've turned music off but then I miss the actual music I like :( It's a travesty next to Xenoblade/Persona as both of them have top notch music!

Those armors are garbage, but people tend to look at the character original design to judge them. and the original default designs in xeno 1 were pretty good imo.

Xeno 2 character designs are bad by default save for few.
This is exactly what this thread is talking about. Tone down the saturation, have a very slightly realistic-esque artstyle and all of a suddenly it's not so bad, you guys are hypocrites.

Dragon Quest is the best. Great charm and classic gameplay, big world to explore, solid gameplay and motivating character and gear development. Persona 5 is also great but dragged down by beeing overly long with lots of filler. Xenoblade 2 is pure garbage, dropped it after 25 hours.

Dragon Quest XI and Persona 5 are the best JRPGs this gen. That said, Xenoblade 2 would still fall in great category, but it's my least favorite out of the three games.

I was counting blades when I think of characters since they can talk, have personalities and even side quests, but maybe that's kinda cheating.

But yeah Zeke, Morag and Nia designs are pretty good.

Aside from Sharla, I like the rest. Especially Dunban. His design was great.

I like their faces, but their clothes and colors are pretty weird

I'm not saying that one of them don't have it, being JRPG you're sure gonna bump into that. It's just too much anime cringe for me on XBC2 and i'm pretty tolerable with it comes to anime. I like anime and jrpg is my favorite genre. It feels like the generic Tales of, not on Berseria/Vesperia level even, it doesn't help too many mechanics. That and i'm expecting something better from Takahashi, XBC is the best jrpg last gen and Xeno franchise is special to me. I can understand though that they have to do that in order to appeal to a wider audience, FE sadly went that way too.
Xenoblade 2 isn't even more anime than the other Xeno game. It's just better animated. Xeno series has always been very anime.

Of the ones I've played P5>DQ11 but I love them both. I haven't played XB2 but I think it's aesthetic is garish. I've played all their predecessors and I think it would fall the same way (P4>DQ8>>XB1)

If we are counting Blade then i would agree that there is damn bad bud there. The big boobs bunny girl is the big big bad one lol. But there is some cute one though. That puffball and polar bear is damn good design.^_^

Also, jojo pose Blade how can anyone hate him.

Not played dragon quest, so xenoblade gets my vote.

There's no depth to personas battle systems at all, the actual game part of the series is garbage and they'd be better if they could just make them out and out visual novels.

Once again i'm quite shocked by the results of the poll. Reading some posts and entire threads on Era you would think Persona 5 is the worst Jrpg ever, trash, while Dragon Quest XI the best Jrpg of the generation.

Yet here we are with Persona 5 winning the poll by a wide margin. I guess those minorities shouting how much Persona 5 is bad are really loud.

About myself, i already played and completed two playthroughs of Persona 5, will start DQ XI in few days, won't play Xenoblade 2 because i don't have a Switch, so can't really judge which is the best.

Persona 5 > Xenoblade Chronciles 2 (with Torna!) = Dragon Quest XI

But I felt more with P5 and XC2 where as DQ11 was just a great RPG

Persona 5>Xc2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>DQ XI

Persona 5 is a really good JRPG, not as good as P4 (so a little disappointing after waiting for so many years) but great nonetheless.

Xc2 is on a similar position: Xc1 is a better game, but to me Xc2 was a lot of fun compared to XcX. It's great too, and has the best OST from the last years.

DQ XI though... it was hard for me to care about the story or gameplay in the game, it feels stale and boring, uninteresting and unremarkable. Great graphics though.

Despite Xenoblade 2 being my GoTY last year I love Dragon Quest XI even more.
Persona 5 was a great the first 50 hours and fell of a cliff. The pacing in the ladder half was atrocious and the ending ruined the story for me. And the treatment of Ann was disturbing.

I've tried twice and I just can't get into P5, haven't tried DQ11 but would like too....although I'm in no rush.

XB2 is my introduction to the series and became one of my favorite games in a long, long time.

I just beat the "final" boss in DQ11 with some draconian modifiers a few days ago and that fight was one of the most intense turn-based fights I've ever done. Frequent party swaps, changing up strategy as the bosses changed their moves, and this is all after I did some major reworks in everybody's skill tree to prepare since my first few attempts were failures. Even had to learn a few new strategies to win (like using a Rab skill to defuse enemy Pep & getting Erik prepped up for massive boomerang damage & then moving him out of the active party and swapping him back in at just the right moment).

Hopefully you would not get burnt out after this, there are at least 4 better designed and more intense fights in the post game (if you keep your levels as low as possible).

You can actually use Rab's "Rake and break" to dispell final Boss' pep in phase 2. It is much more economic than "clear your mind" in terms of the skill points dedication. IMO the AGI passive skills on the right are far more important than those magic might or MP skills on the left panel in this fight because this will make sure Rab moves between the left head and right head, making the strategy execution easier.
Don't worry about the mending power when using claw, just switch to heavy wand in the battle whenever you need to cast healing magic or debuffs.
Also let Serena and Sylvendo both learn Wyrm Whip to give the party maximum flexibility to dispell boss' pep (i.e. you don't need rely on one supportive character).

In fact i don't think the final battle in act 2 any close to an intense fight at all during this play-through (6 restrictions and at low level). You can use "dirge spamming" method to break phase 1 in 2 minutes (4 mins with bad luck) and "coffin swapping" technique(begins at 18:00 or 24:00, two examples) to break phase 2. It's not optimal for maximum damage but very solid to beat the boss if you have certain amount of yggdrasil leaves.
And ofc none of these techniques work well in the 4 fights of the post-game i mentioned before. They are totally different.

I bring all these things up not to argue against you but to support your point that the game's battle system is not that shallow as it seems to be(imo that's what you mean; the battle desgin is fun). I have played DQ11 for multi times and only realized the depth of its system recently.
I think this video may speak louder than any words: Kill draconian Gyldygga in two turns (90 seconds), at minimum level, before she even casts the goldenizing spell. I had thought this was impossible until i learnt some special builds (and proper turn-order manipulation). Most people beat this one with more than 8 minutes using common strategy that applies to turn-based RPG in general.

DQXI is good, but is dragged down by shit music and even though it's retro appeal is still part of the charm, the battle system isn't that engaging.
The game was made easily due reasons... if you chose the standard DQ difficult then the battle system is one of the most engaging battle system in a RPG.

It is turn-based perfected and done right.

DQXI, for sure. I've only played eight hours of Persona 5 and thought it was alright but already knew I wouldn't be able to make it through the whole 100 hours. Xenoblade 2 just left me underwhelmed in general.

For me it's Xenoblade.

It's the only game that gave me the "journey" feeling, that can lasts for months and it has a bit of everything with funny moments but also drama and some nice plot twist.

For me Land of Morytha was a shocker

That is reflected even with the gameplay that has some "bitter" moments especially when you have yet to understand how the combat system works, field skills,... but when things start to click, the combat becomes really engaging, you may find yourself in search of core crystals to get your favourite blades, and even some of the sidequests are fun.

While many JRPGs (and i suspect DQXI is no exception) keeps the same tone throughout the game, it can get a little boring and repetitive over time.

I like Xenoblade 2 and Persona 5 a lot for different reasons. Persona 5 has the better story and presentation while Xenoblade 2 has better gameplay. I give it to Xenoblade 2 overall because it was actually innovative in the gameplay department in a way that RPGs (and particularly not the Persona series) often aren't. Haven't played DQ11, but the horrible battle theme makes me not really interested, lol :|

Remember that persona has crawled its way to 2 million(I believe) and DQ11 has maybe got like 500,000 people who could potentially speak English on this forum.
And in that regard xenoblade 2 is only 500,000 itself from 2 million.
So the poll would never in theory be fair

Well, if Persona 5 really was so bad, even selling 2 millions wouldn't have changed anything. When a game is really bad or trash, like someone is describing Persona 5, most of people that played that game would agree and mostly nobody would vote it as best game.

Persona 5 was one of the most overrated games I've ever played. The soundtrack really isn't that good, it had some great standouts though. It also was way too long and overstayed it's welcome. Actually, the game would have been much better in book had it ended much sooner than it did.

Well, and keep in mind I myself have never played P5 but hear the complaints; most people who buy games never finish them and alot of everyones complaints start popping up the further you get in the game

XB2 is the worse of Takahashi's game, too much anime trope, uneven aesthetic and graphics, and overly convoluted system which really needs some streamlining.

Xenoblade 2 is also great, but it suffers from severe anime cringe, content bloat and way too many interconnected systems for it's own good.
Was just about to say exactly this but good to see there are other people sharing my experiences.

Persona 5 is one of the best games I've played for sure. Can't comment on DQ11 yet.

I platinumed both P5 and DQXI and I'll pick DQXI over P5 any day. The gameplay (Draconian mode) and stories are much better. Xenoblade 2 doesn't belong in this discussion.

Xenoblade 2 > Persona 5 > Dragon Quest XI

If I'm going to devote 75+ hours to a game, it damn well better have a soundtrack that draws me in and a world that's fun to explore. Persona's got the soundtrack, DQ has the world exploration, but Xenoblade 2 had both.

Loved XC2.
I've only heard good things of P5 from friends who usually like the same games I do, so I'm pretty eager to play that one.
I'm only like 3 hours into DQXI, and I don't know if I'll ever get back to it. The silent protag make it hard to have any interest in him, the ost is disapointing as hell when you just played XC2 + Octopath traveler, and combat start extremely boring. ( that last one isn't really surprising for the first hours of a jrpg, but the other two might prevent me from getting to the point where it ever get interesting )

Play more. I say that even if I kind of regret putting 60 hours into a game that at the end feels unremarkable and bland, but the first 5 hours or so from DQ XI are easily the worst section from the game. If you like what you play from hour 5 to hour 10 or so, the game gets really better later.

Guys, I hope it's right place to ask. I never played but always wanted to try Persona. I want to buy Persona 5 but some time ago I read spoiler on Twitter. I don't remember exactly what it said but something like
Igor is bad.
Will I still enjoy game or it's now ruined for me? Thanks!

I'm really happy to see how close the poll is. Out of over 500 votes Xenoblade 2 and Dragon Quest XI are literally within 3 votes of each other as of this post, and while Persona 5 is winning handily it's still only by about 12%.

Well deserved for all of them!

I'll likely try, probably with the help of the Orchestral Overhaul Mod. But such a boring start really makes it hard to put it on the top of the list of games I want to play when I know it's time I could spend on other RPG I have yet to start and are far more likely to be enjoyable from the start ( Torna, Etrian Odyssey V, Fire Emblem Fate, Persona 5 ).
Those boring as fuck first hours were also the reason I'm stuck 2 hours into The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky even thought it's very likely I would enjoy the rest of the game.
