But why is that? Is it rude for a woman to need to touch the toilet seat?

I ask this because I live in a house full of guys, and have never really understood it. The other day I entered the bathroom and behold, the toilet seat was down. What the fuck I asked myself. Then it occured to me.

If we need to leave the toilet seat down for women, shouldn't a woman pull the seat back up for potential dude use? Why doesn't it go both ways? Why are guys the only ones who have to touch the seat?

But then you might say, "well the toilet seat is down, and a guy could still stand up and pee, a girl would have a harder time"

But thats the thing! The margin for error is way less when the seat is down and a guy has to pee.

So Era please explain this to me. If you live with a woman or girl for any reason, do you care about the position of the toilet seat and if so, why?

I asked myself this question the other day. When I worked in an area with a shared bathroom, I would leave it how I used it. When I'm at my gfs place. I always put it back down. I don't think it matters, but I understand why it would be annoying when they only sit.

It's because people accidentally sit on a toilet and fall into the toilet water. It's not a gender thing.

If men had to sit down to pee the seat would always be down too. The shock of sitting down with the seat up is not pleasant - so just keep it down if there are women about. It's just courtesy.

I've heard from female friends/roommates most of them don't even look at the toilet before sitting down. It's fucking bizarre.

So they dont fall in the toilet. The reason my wife gives me is it's such an automatic thing to sit and pee she might be be thinking of other stuff and not necessarily check.

This is especially important in the middle of the night where she kinda sleep pees and I found out the hard way when I had left it up and heard a blood curdling scream.

So I don't wander to the bathroom in the dark half asleep and go to sit down to pee and wind up falling into the toilet.

I never understood this until last night. Stomach was rumbling and I rushed into the bathroom(I was the last one to use it and left the seat up) only to fall into the toilet.

Close both lids. Problem solved. Now everyone has to put in work. That's what I do anyway.

Don't you people close the goddamn toilet when you are done with it? Who wants to walk into a bathroom and immediately be staring into a nasty ass toilet bowl?

Yea. You have to put it down or else they can fall into the toilet and die. It's pretty gruesome.

Unless it's a pissoir just sit down like a civilized human being. Why do men like to spread their urin everwhere in a 50cm radius? It's disgusting once you see it in detail.

Also I just completely close the damn thing before flushing, considering flushing the toilet throws all your piss and shit particles into the air

You can't see at night and don't want to fall in.

It's less of a deal for dudes because night pooping is by and large, less common.

Just do it. It's a good social norm that respects women.

I have always put the entire lid down, not just the seat. I grew up with a sister, and that's just what everybody always did, when you were done peeing or whatever, you put not just the seat down, but the lid down.

I actually have a reason for this today, though. If I don't put the lid down, my dog will drink from the toilet, which I find disgusting. So it's really, really annoying when guests come over and don't put the lid down, and I find out by hearing my dog slurp up toilet water from across the house.

There's always a big fuss over this topic, but in the end, the answer is simple:

Just put the seat down. It's not worth being stubborn over.

There's a seat and a lid for a reason. Just close the gaping waste-hole when you're done and the next person can decide what to open based on their needs.

In my whole life I've never fallen in a toilet. It's not a thing unless you're careless about bathroom habits

Generally but I always close it completely. Don't want my cat getting in there. Also, I have accidentally sat down when the seat was up. It sucks.

It's not just good manners, it's compassion for all human beings. You'll know this if you've fallen into a toilet bowl, in a dark bathroom.

Sitting to pee is pretty great, but it brings concerns about bowl size into the whole equation.

I've never done that in my 40+ year toilet-shitting career.
I put the seat down out of habit after growing up with no other guys in the house, but I still find that explanation puzzling.

No. So the same way you have to be observant, women do too. Falling into the toilet because you assumed the toilet seat is down is rather bizarre.

It's just a natural human thing to shut off your brain during repeat activity though. Have you ever driven the same route every day to the point where sometimes you don't remember how you got there? Same principle especially if you live alone and you never have to ever change the seat.

Yeah never understood why we have to put the seat down either. We always make sure it's up so we can pee and make sure it's down to #2, so not sure why women can't check? I actually prefer to put the whole cover down actually.

If there are more men than women in the house, is it rude to leave it down? (Thinking emoji)

If I ever win the lotto I'm just installing a urinal and getting a crazy Japanese toilet so we'll be good.
