The forcing of single joy con and motion controls for docked mode is horrible horrible design.

Terrible for accessibility ...

Confirming you can choose any gender regardless of version?

I always see a male with Pikachu and a female with Eevee in videos on Nintendo's site...

The newest trailer from the Nintendo Switch News Channel shows a female pikachu partnered with the male trainer. Gamexplain's review also shows a male trainer with a female eevee.

User warned: Inappropriate comment.
One of the things Game Freak would never remove from Pokemon is choosing between a boy or a girl.

Unfortunately for them I sexually identify as a Charmander.

*EDIT* Uh how did this receive a warning? I was making a joke that I wanted to play as a Charmander.

Actually a little higher than I thought it'd be.

I am very close to checking this out, but I just cannot justify it between some of the stuff I've read in the datamining thread about the difficulty and the removal of Abilities/items. Hopefully I can watch someone play it and get some more impressions, but I just really don't think it would keep me engaged enough to finish it. And even then, there's the lack of anything to do when it's finished (besides those Master battles or whatever which don't sound fun at all).

But the gaming community told me this game was a cancer for months, and now people who have actually played it for a few dozen hours are saying that it's good? I just don't know who to believe.

I don't have the time to play Let's Go this year, so I'm personally not stumping for the game here, but, man, its pre-release reception was one of the worst examples of gamers' virulent reaction to change that I've seen in my many years enjoying the hobby. Glad to see the game being reviewed on its own merits.

I don't think I'm interested, personally, but I'm happy for folks who are; the game sounds pretty good overall and I hope y'all have a grand time with it. <3

I can see it dropping further if some reviews are waiting for online before dropping a number. The online set of options this time is depressingly lacking.

Uh huh, I'm sure it will drop down to what you said in this post...yup.

I feel this game is going to score in the low 70's/high 60's. Lower than the series average. Serviceable games, but underwhelming in what could have been.

How are these posts even allowed? This is no different than lazy dev rhetoric, it's insulting to imply that critics are being less ethical towards certain titles, especially with nothing remotely close to proof.
It's not about ethics it's about popular things being considered better than they are because they're popular. It happens in all media.

The pokemon franchise in a vacuum seem like they're new and exciting each time, but in the context of all games they are more often than not painfully linear with the bland surface level narratives to boot. Change the branding and I cannot envision a scenario that these games are doing as well as they have been for the last few years.

I'm not even saying it's wrong to do these things. Just that it's disappointing that it seems to me that there are games that get a free pass for bad game design based on pedigree.

It won't matter because neither starter can evolve and there are only a few Pokemon that aren't in both games. You can get them on your cell phone. Just pick the one you think is more aesthetically pleasing.

You want a Pikachu on your Shoulder or an Eevee on your Head?

Thanks. My buddy is getting Eevee so I think I'll just get Pikachu for easy trading. Aslo, Shoulder > Head. :p

I expected the game to perform worse considering the lukewarm reception from part of the fans (not only Resetera).

Curious to see the sales numbers in the following months, my prediction is 10-12m.

I knew it...as soon the internet started to tell me this game is awful and no one should buy/enjoy it I knew it was going to be a good game.

I can't wait til Friday to start playing this...what's even better is I never played pokemon yellow, so it kinda is a new game for me....

Shocked, but happy to be wrong. Wasn't expecting this to review well at all.

Not sure if I'll get it anytime soon, but I'll definitely get it eventually after seeing reviews. I love Gen 1.

Sounds great!

I'm excited for a simple and fun Pokémon game, going back to basics!

Roll on Friday!
