Sorry, I meant what I had said more as a hypothetical. I've been in both worlds, with employer and without. When you don't have an employer that doesn't give you an excuse to do anything. I mean you can, legally, do a lot of things, but that doesn't mean people can't call you out on it or not frequent your business. People in this thread are hiding behind what he legally can do as a defense of what he morally should do or what we morally can or cannot call him out on.

Your don't have a point. Popularity shouldn't mean you can eschew equality and treat women differently. If a movie star said they can't work with women then fuck them. If a Senator or president said they can't work with women then fuck them, too. It doesn't matter how popular or known your field is. Choosing not to work with women and treat them as equals and colleagues is wrong.

I haven't heard the recent hot gossip between Schumer and Pelosi. Please, dish out that hot goss.

Attacking Boogie over that quote is ridiculous.

The guy publicly "celebrated" on stream the fact his ex-girlfriend died of cancer. That's why he's a shit human being, not a stupid sentence about being in the middle and avoiding radicalization.
I'd never seen that clip and holy cow it was so much worse than I expected.

Still nobody vouching for the fortnite dances being stolen or lack of black characters and protagonist in video games. Some of you are a bit twisted.

I wish this award was for people who made crazy mods and homebrew stuff. Or even the people who dedicate tons of time to keeping game wikis updated for everyone.

I could go on my youtube sucscriptions and make at least two whole lists of better nominees than this. And i would rally up so the winner of the category would be Gaming Brit or Mark Brown.

I don't understand why they limit nominees to mostly streamers.

There are other people who deserves more recognition, e.g., mark brown, super bunnyhop.
Even Dunkey would make a better nominee.

Apparently the kid called him a faggot. I'd say that's a good enough reason as long as Ninja is pissed at him for using that specific slur rather than just being pissed a kid swore at him. Op maybe should specify the word he used rather than just saying cursing, since it's more of a slur than a curse.
Just watched the vid in OP, don't see anything wrong with Ninja's reaction. The acting out was part of his early character.

That quote was said in defense of a white supremacist; it is absolutely deserving of "attack" on its own merits. Beyond that, it's just serves to underline Boogie's history of using this shtick to defend racism and misogyny, as he did with Gamergate.

While we're discussing his history. He also tried to emotionally manipulate NeoGAF to shut down criticism of Gamergate. He went into a thread, said some stupid arguments which people tried to debate calmly. Then Boogie said that he's too unhealthy to deal with this whole situation, and it just makes him so unhappy that he wants to kill himself. After the mods banned him to force him to remove himself from that conversation he couldn't handle, he then rushed off to talk with Gamergate supporters. Apparently it isn't so bad for his health when they're on that side.

Yep.

And then denied that he posted that. What would happen if you then linked the post? The subreddit mods would delete your link. He's extremely manipulative.

I agree with those who say that people like Digital Foundry, No Clip, NX Gamer and the other mentions I haven't personally heard of but seemingly make great content deserve an award for all that they do.

Excluding Ninja from the list would be ridiculous. He's the most famous video game player.

I have no idea who he is. I'm guessing he's a famous Fortnite, Overwatch or PUBG streamer because those are games I have zero interest in and don't follow the respective scenes.

As a matter of fact I don't know any of these nominees...

Hell according to the other thread, Deltarune shouldn't be elegible for awards neither for it's fantastic soundtrack nor as an Indy for being "a demo", well fuck it then, give Toby Fox the content creator award for creating Deltarune, how's that for content being created?

I wouldn't be that harsh. I pretty much think that, besides that potential viewership, Geoff doesn't mean any harm with this category, and he also can't control what shitheads say AFTER being awarded and promoted.

That said, I do believe this category needs to go away for good. Let's keep the focus on the people working on games (which is also way I think the Esports awards, while overwhelming, are ok).
There's no way he was unaware of Ninja dropping racial slurs or making sexist comments. Maybe he didn't know about cussing out children on stream. This is after he had previously given the award to a neo-nazi anti-feminist and another racist that cheated on his wife, though.

There's so much drama going around previous winners of this category being horrible people that he acknowledged it by... splitting it and having a separate one for actual good people instead of just not promoting horrible people. He is far past the point where should be given the benefit of the doubt.

It's an inconvenient truth but you cant simply exclude him because you dont like his personality. The fact of the matter is that there is an enormous number of people who love the guy.
Saying a racist slur isn't part of someone's personality unless they are racist. Discriminating against women isn't a feature of someone's personality unless they are a misogynist. Screaming at children isn't part of your personality unless you are unhinged.

Honestly I'm not sure why Ninja would go. Whenever he is doing media appearances instead of streaming he is losing money and subscribers essentially

They usually have to compensate him these days for what he is expected to make in the timeframe he doesn't stream.

If he is losing $200k that day then they will pay him that much or make a lot of noise for him to make him even more famous and well known.

Though by now everyone not living in a cave knows who he is anyway.
He went mainstream and is a name outside of Videogames too these days.

There are plenty of others I'd like to see nominated, but at some point I think we just need to accept that we're not the target audience for this particular award

I was responding to your suggestion that it's okay for him to discriminate against a large portion of the populace because of something that's beyond their control by substituting another group. Weird how you reacted with shock to that, but not women.

Also, streaming alone is fine.

Coming out and saying "I'll only stream with men because of my awesome pheromones and also my wife doesn't trust me and I'm scared of my dumbass fans misconstruing things" is weirdo territory.
Did he said he doesn't like woman or he doesn't want to play with woman? Those two are very different.
Not wanting to play with a woman doesn't mean any discrimination, maybe it's just his personal opinion, why even force someone to do something he doesn't like? Isn't that wrong?

That sentence perfectly illustrates Boogie's dumbassery, it should always be used to point out his lack of any substance.

Then the award should be better titled as "most popular streamer" or just stick to the "trending player".

But seriously, they can add a new category to award those who make high quality serious content.
A high quality content reward would be nice, but considering the show is nothing more than a place to dump end of year announcements with tons of ads, I could see it being put in some quickly glossed over segment of the show or just not fitting the show in general. As to the name change, due to previous "trending players" having some shining examples of people I can see why the name changed.

He may be all those things but people still watch him.

I don't recall any protests from viewers or fellow actors when Russell Crowe was nominated for an Oscar.

Yes. How'd you feel if it was his personal opinion to not play with black people?

I've had some friends try to rationalize that to me, and me being the only married one, I couldn't help but laugh my ass off at how absurd the whole thing is. Also honestly it didn't surprise me they couldn't understand it given how I've heard them talk about women in general. Not surprised at all.

"Content Creator"...

byee2ad6t.gif

"" "Content Creator" "

I mean, he's just the only one who hasn't really done anything controversial. Plus he conquered cancer, and it's nearly impossible to truly hate someone who had to go through hell and back and even hid it so he could continue to cover this medium. All of his struggles have been completely understandable given his circumstances.

He also actually keeps most of his private life... private. His world views... mostly kept to himself. He just sticks, publicly, to what his shtick is and he's good at it. His speech even after the award is still, honestly, the greatest speech given at the TGA's yet.

Hmm? Do you watch KF content? Of course not everything is public, but I feel like it's weird make a particular statement about that with him when half of his content on a weekly basis is about him talking about what goes on in his life and his view on things lol.

It's probably because it's just "Trending Gamer" but badly repackaged. I doubt they really considered actual (as in, non-gameplay, no offensive meant to streamer fans) content creators when they were choosing the award. Wouldn't be surprised if the name was changed last minute, either.

Yes. How'd you feel if it was his personal opinion to not play with black people?
Well, if he doesn't want to play with black people, then it's ok
If he doesn't want to play with a Muslim for any reason, so it's ok, why upset about something like that?

For example, Did he said something like he doesn't like black people because he think black people are bad? Did he said that?

If he is a racist that always talks bad in his stream so his twitch should be closed long time ago.

It's not up to me to force him to eat something he doesn't want it.

In the ends, people are voting for him, people who made him popular.

So Ninja has finally reached the level of popularity that people are no longer praising his deeds and are now calling him shitty huh.

ResetEra contrarians are so predictable.

Are you going to use Hollywood as a barometer for not protesting platforming shitty people?

Yes, people still watch him, that does not mean he *needs* to be a part of an award show or be nominated for anything, it's entirely arbitrary.

While I think the name of the category is awful and the award just really shouldn't exist at alI, I'm not bent out of shape about Ninja winning an award.

To be clear, I think he's a cornball and I'm not cosigning on his bullshit, but it's naive to think that of his largely juvenile audience that routinely is 50+ thousand at all times there isn't a percentage of that group that harasses women and just makes the experience a bad one for all involved. To be clear, that is awful! But it's also the reality of the situation. There really isn't a gaming site/person or whatever that doesn't have at least a percentage of the audience being awful. It sucks. I'd obviously prefer if he explored others paths instead of his "Pence-ian" view on things in that regard, but he's also probably cut off on a large percentage of extraneous bullshit he'd likely encounter by knowing full well he can't police his absurdly huge audience. It's not the path I obviously would prefer, but I also probably don't know 98% of the weird behind the scenes shit that a streamer of that magnitude has to deal with.

I'm not excusing the bad moments he's had on streams, but could you imagine basically having to be "on" for an audience of an NFL football stadium at all times for likely 40+ hours per week? This audience also tends to be younger and generally like anything on the internet, one who thrives on drama.

So, those things are all bad what I said above and shouldn't be discounted. With that said, he's also raised obscene amounts of money for charity, made a concentrated effort to be one of the very few "family-friendly" streams on Twitch, and is more recognizable than just about anyone else in the world to a younger demographic. He's a legit phenomenon who might be the first "gamer" to achieve mainstream success. I don't care for him, likely most on this message board are out of his intended demographic, but he's an A-list celebrity. With that said, Keighley would be insane to not try to get him on his show. We've all seen The Game Awards struggle to exist as a thing. They're constantly in limbo and have evolved for years. There's been some ugly and shameless moments in them, but I think they've gotten better and serve as the best "celebration of gaming" in the industry. If he can say that Ninja is appearing at this event, that's a windfall of interest/money that will probably be given to this event. I don't think Keighley loves being the Dorito Pope and shoving poor Kyle Bosman out there with the Hydro-Bot, but he makes those tough decisions so the event can exist.
