I don't really like the idea of following people out of irl-friendship obligation rather than just filling a social feed with stuff to entertain yourself. I guess that's why I main twitter.
I honestly dunno how to check if someone's unfollowed me. But i'm not about people who pretend to care if they don't find me that interesting. BE FREE.

I only have Twitter and MAL, haven't logged in the first one in months and only use the latter to check on seasonal anime, so yeah, don't care.

Last guy that I noticed "unfriending" me on Facebook was a moron from high school that got a degree from Liberty University and thought it gave him a platform to interject super conservative social topics into any conversation.

I had enough and bitch slapped him publicly (saying his degree was tantamount to getting a degree from Sunday School and no real company would disagree) so he blocked me.

Can't say I feel bad. Also don't think I've noticed since then as I've drastically drawn down my Facebook usage in the past year.

I thought most people periodically go through their social media and remove people they no longer actively hang out with (at least once a year)? At least that's what I do.

99.9999% of the time I'm the one doing the unfriending. If someone posts something annoying more than 3 times I'll unfriend or mute them lol

It definitely means something. Usually it's cause they are annoyed at what you post. Depends how often you speak to the people though and how many friends you have on there. I have very few and the vast majority are close so if someone removed me I would wonder why.

Since I unfriended everyone before I stopped using Facebook, I wouldn't know. The account is still there as there are some memories that will pop up on my wife's account that she likes. Apart from that I've not used it or done anything on it in over a year.

I don't really think it is that big of a deal. I have unfriended people on Facebook simply because they don't use it anymore and don't need them on there clogging up my friends list. It is nothing personal. Social media is a vacuum and does not in any way represent how I feel about someone in real life.

I pay so little attention to mine that I probably wouldn't notice. I just keep Facebook as some friends and family send event invites solely through there and I have it set to notify me when a select few close friends post something.

I've had a couple formerly good friends - friendships that lasted from middle school through undergrad - unfriend me. One of whom I kept running into after it happened. I decided it was best to ignore them. Sure doesn't feel great.

It depends on how close I am with them at the time they do it. If they do it while I'm still actively engaging with them on a regular basis, yeah, that hurts.

If it's someone I haven't spoken to in eight years? Who cares, we probably weren't friends anymore anyway.

I mean, if it was someone that I considered a friend I would take it personally, since it will imply that something wrong happened.

If is a classmate or some random that I added for who knows what reason back then, I don't care

I don't care because, back when I was on FB, I routinely unfriended people. I didn't mean anything personal by unfriending them, something changed in me and I wanted to keep a tighter circle. Ultimately I never trusted Facebook's privacy controls and there are enough stories of the controls not working that I thought it was safer to unfriend people I wasn't connected to anymore.

Fuck social media. I'm off Facebook and I hate Instagram tag whores. Dudes that drop like 50 tags on a photo to get more fake followers. Lame.

And yeah I would have no idea on ig or twitter if someone in particular unfollowed me. This is like the opposite of something to worry about.
Oh no, people are using Instagram as intended by tagging their pictures!

not even going to lie right now.

i check the followers/following on ALL of my social media accounts (except for facebook, which is dead/unimportant for me). I have an app for instagram and twitter that show me who unfollowed me, who is not following me, etc. I definitely take it very personally when someone unfollows me, especially if they're someone who i've known for some years (if it's a person i met at school or a party or something, they probably got my instagram when they were drunk or high...i'll let that slide, no hard feelings, they don't know me)

For everyone else tho, it either means 2 things : they don't like me as a person, or they don't like my content (i produce music, so i used social media as a platform to promote my beats). Either way, it really hurts me when someone clicks that unfollow button, especially if they are a IRL "friend" or an actual supporter of my craft.

I tend to unfollow people who unfollow me, which sends a clear sign that were aren't good friends anymore. I guess you could call this a petty move, but whatever. i don't post political or hot topic things or really anything controversial. I'm very level headed on social media, so a person who unfollows me probably doesn't consider myself a real friend, just an acquaintance. I actually never unfollow people on social media, i tend to be loyal to anyone who comes in my circle. Just sucks to know that others aren't the same.

It depends.

Facebook, yes. I keep FB limited to real friends and family and I'd wonder what the issue was. Twitter, not so much. I use it mostly for nerd stuff/hobbies and interest in those things can ebb and wane. Tumblr....lol. I'm usually the one doing the unfriending. I don't have an IG but it's always seemed very fake to me so I suspect I wouldn't care.

It doesn't matter to me because in every situation that happened, they just beat me to the punch and unfriended me first.

Whatever. I unfriend people for posting pro-trump/anti immigration stuff. Don't need your shit on my social feed on top of everywhere else I see it in life

No need to worry, social media friends are usually just acquaintances for me. If my mom defriended though it would probably hurt my feelers.

I wouldn't know.

I certainly understand if people do not want to be spammed with tech links.

Most of the people I'm friends with on social media are people I care about outside of social media. So yeah, I'd take it personally.
If it's just someone I have added just to keep up with them every now and again, then no I don't care.

It's only ever been someone I didn't care about enough to be upset anyway.

How else do you take it? It is personal.

I just figure people go through their friend lists time to time to clear out people they don't talk to. If it's a guy from high school I haven't spoken to in 10 years, I don't exactly feel personally targeted by them unfriending me. I was probably one of many.

It depends. If it is someone I consider a friend in real life I am concerned with what the problem is. If it is just an acquaintance then nah, I would be surprised if I even notice.
