It'll be a tough choice between God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2. Both are in my top 5 for game of the generation.

I'm not sure i would consider Monster Hunter an RPG at all. Pretty good list overall though. I have a feeling Red Dead/God of War will sweep.
I mean, yeah.. Mario Tennis, Mario Party and Kirby were all underwhelming. If Smash would have came out a couple months ago it would be a front runner for GOTY. But i am pretty sure since it's December it will be allowed in the 2019 GOTY's.
Agreed. Personally I'm rooting for Ni No Kuni 2 or God of War's soundtrack. Octopath became repetitive. And I don't remember the other nominees but Ni No Kuni 2's music was fantastic. Some of Joe Hisasihi's best work is in there. God of War was also fantastic.

Not when you've got the game already proving to be divisive in a lot of elements while God of War is still beloved today.
Considering how emotionally stable and put-together most Nintendo fans are, I highly doubt you all know.
That said, It'll get a nod for best fighting game next year, and maybe even win...unless Mortal Kombat XI drops next year as most expect it will.
Solid and expected list though I'm surprised that Assassin's Creed Odyssey entered the list because there were other games that scored higher on meta and opencritic than this one.

I think RDR2 will win a lot of awards, but at least this year it has a lot of truly qualified competition in games like Spidey and God of War.

Red dead is incredibly divisive. Where as GOW was practically universally praised by critics and fans. I'd be shocked if it lost.

I think Tetris Effect just ended up releasing too late. It should definitely have won music and been nominated for GOTY though.
What an insanely amazing year for games. It's squarely between GOW and RDR2 for me. How the hell can I choose!?

i expect a very high placement in era's 2018 goty awards. many people played it for the first time this year with the console versions.
I really enjoyed playing XB2 but there were absolutely better choices for both categories. XB2 had a few really good tracks, but a lot of the score was forgettable (or memorable for the wrong reasons imo). It's also a pretty divisive RPG + a lot of critics didn't like it so.

People saying Spider-Man doesn't deserve it's nomination as GOTY in addition to Tetris' and Forza's glaring omissions have been quite the thing. Maybe that's enough internet for me for the day
Definitely. I feel like last year I knew deep down it would be BotW despite a ton of other great games, but this year I can't even begin to predict for a lot of the categories

Same here but I think God of War made a bold move to change and take a huge risk and deserves to be rewarded for it.
Same here, is a wonderful game and its sad it gets so much hate in this forum.
This is my feeling. While I think RDR2 should win in the more obvious categories (mostly technical achievements), God of War doesn't really provide any level of controversy regarding how it plays, how its missions are designed, etc. It would be frustrating to see a game that so many (myself included) struggled to play sweep when virtually everyone who played God of War loved it unconditionally.
I'm disappointed the ARMS NA Online Open finals weren't nominated because I felt legendary for just witnessing it.
