UFOs spotted off Irish coast under investigation

The Irish Aviation Authority is investigating reports of bright lights and UFOs off the south-west coast of Ireland.

It began at 06:47 local time on Friday 9 November when a British Airways pilot contacted Shannon air traffic control.

She wanted to know if there were military exercises in the area because there was something "moving so fast".

The air traffic controller said there were no such exercises.

The pilot, flying from the Canadian city of Montreal to Heathrow, said there was a "very bright light" and the object had come up along the left side of the aircraft before it "rapidly veered to the north".

She was wondering what it could be but said it did not seem to be heading for a collision.

Another pilot from a Virgin plane joined in and suggested it might be a meteor or another object re-entering the earth's atmosphere.

He said there were "multiple objects following the same sort of trajectory" and that they were very bright.

The pilot said he saw "two bright lights" over to the right which climbed away at speed.

One pilot said the speed was "astronomical, it was like Mach 2" - which is twice the speed of sound.

They're here because the UK is scrambling to sign trade deals with literally anyone.

Sounds exactly like a meteor or space junk burning up and breaking up on re-entry to the atmosphere. Queue the dumb replies about aliens.

I love how the reason behind these sorts of events never get answered and always get forgotten about.

The answer is kinda already in the article. The ufo's are probably small pieces of material entering the atmosphere.

Edit: It really doesn't help that a lot people think an UFO equals something like this:

Instead of simply that what it describes...an object that flies and has not been identified yet.

Nice, I saw a UFO a few years ago.

Curious to see what kinda technology they use in their ships.

Yeah, this. UFO != aliens. Tons of UFO's are seen every year and a grand total of 0 have ever been confirmed to be aliens. Shit, I've seen two UFO's in my life and it was really cool. I don't think they were aliens for one second though.

Meh.

Pilots are only slightly more informed about identifying lights then your average person. Obviously they saw some lights but I'm sure there is a rational explanation.

You think aliens stop off to drop a note to say, yeah that was us, sorry next time we'll go stealth mode so as though not to mess your shit up, we forgot about the Roswell treaty. See you next year.

It would be nice if they could stop sending us their drunk youngster only for them to get so shitfaced they tag our fields with crop circle and forget to turn of their light when they are just far enough to be seen but not decently recorded.

It'd be nice, yeah.

But seriously, if aliens visited our planet even 1% as much as they're claimed to there'd be way more hard evidence for them (which there currently is 0 of).

Zork: So, Glornax, why have we, a species who managed to perfect intergalactic space travel, any need to put lights on the outside of our ship?

Glornax: To fuck with these humans, duh.

What makes you think that?

The people that actually have the ability to know what goes on in the skies above us (those with radar capabilities) would probably not want the greater population to know about it.

I'm not saying it's on the same level as MiB, but I wouldn't be surprised to find some level of suppression about the actual quantity of information on such events. It's certainly an interesting thing to think about aside from the wild conspiracy theories.

In my experience, grand conspiracies tend to fall apart quickly. All it takes is one person in the know to get a heart and release evidence, or alternatively for one person not in the know to find hard evidence and release it.

How on earth does that jive with the abrupt trajectory changes described by both pilots?

If there are pockets of gas inside the object, they can escape and change the trajectory like a little rocket engine. Or if the object breaks in two, both parts go in different directions, but your eyes track the larger, brighter part.
