That's fair and I'm definitely of the idea that you should try to show people the way in order to help them grow and become better human beings but do you seriously expect Brandon Jones, the guy who's seemingly afraid to have too hot of an opinion on effing lootboxes in our virtual toys, to go on Colin's show to call him out on his shit?

Great tweets from Ian. It's become too common to see rash statements followed up with a "L&R". If we say that those words define the community then there should be integrity to them. I have to say that the handling of the issue has been done pretty poorly. What was needed is someone stepping in a lot earlier with a summarized version of what Ian tweeted whilst doing some light moderation at some of the more heated and nasty stuff that happened in the patreon CoJ post.

The resolution of the situation with Jones' going on to appear on one of Colin's shows doesn't faze me as from how Jones has presented himself, he seems very amiable and tolerant. It's his choice to do with his time as he sees fit, the concerns that were borught up were about Colin appearing on EZA content. I think if you're upset about Jones going on to appear on one of Colin's shows, it's honestly not within your purview. At least not to the extent of thinking it jeopardizes EZA.

So to Jones who wont be reading this, I just wish the situation was handled much quicker and with stronger focus on the integrity that should be present with Love and Respect.

To Bloodworth, I appreciate the work you do moderating and cleaning up where you do. It's a thankless task that can be taxing and it honestly makes for a better community, however much you do it.

Not everything has to be in the public spheres. Brandon tries to keep that out of Twitter and the podcast. He very well have some of that discussion with Colin off camera and do it over time. I don't know, but I hope for the best in folks

That's fantastic. But I doubt Jones is going to go on Colin's show and admonish his behaviour. If he does, good on him, but I'm not holding my breath.

Reading through that article partially, I suppose this could be seen as the intermediate step of finding a common ground. If you're paralleling it with that article, that is.

There's people who get angry if people say violence is okay against white supremacists/neo-nazis. Seems like that poster was working their way to that argumentation but backed away as not to out themselves.

why dont you quote the person youre talking about and 'out' them as a white supremacist or neo-nazi? seems kinda weak to just vaguely infer such a heavy accusation and not follow through with it.

Hampshire, UK.
Just listened to the Cup of Jones now, a disappointing response and seems to not address Colin's views to any degree.

I probably would've put up with him going on CLS if he'd of addressed some of the concerns me and many others have, but no response at all and ignoring all responses (from both sides) seems a bit naive to me.

Jones is quite submissive as a Podcast guest as well, I really can't see him challenging any of Colin's views on anything.

11+ years of following Jones & co. at GT and EZA, been a Patron and Twitch subscriber since Day 1, think that comes to an end today.

These stories are nice but problematic in that they're used as a cudgel against people who are oppressed, as if it is reasonable to expect oppressed people to put themselves in physical and mental danger to try to change people who hate them. I think that it is a choice that someone can make (and I think it is very admirable what that man is doing), but you cannot reasonably ask people to engage and then condemn them when they do not want to.

Jones going on Moriarty's show and speaking to him about games seems akin to Fallon ruffling Trump's hair.

I will not be watching. I won't unsub, because Brandon Jones is not Easy Allies. If people of Moriarty's ilk do end up on any EZA content, however, I won't keep my sub. It provides a tangible financial benefit to someone who espouses horrible views, and puts his money where his mouth is. I don't want to contribute to that.

thats a shame. i can understand your disappointment. hopefully you change your mind at a later date. seems sad to throw away a decade of positivity because of one conversation that hasnt even taken place yet. but you gotta do what you feel is right.

there's many reason why this isn't exactly as "gotcha" as you think. let's take chester doles, one of the men that davis helped to reform. here's some choice quotes about him from 1998

https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/style/features/klan.htm

Despite his vow that he would never be photographed with Davis, the former grand klaliff has since posed for a picture. It made Davis's book, of course. "Yeah, Daryl is a friend," he confirms. "He's articulate, intelligent. He relaxed my views – on him, as an individual."

Davis received thank-you notes after making a cash baby gift to one of Doles's former fiancees. Doles's children have met Davis. They like him. But Doles is quick to qualify Davis's generosity: "My children weren't supported by a black man."

Having quit the Klan, Doles plans to enter politics: "I definitely follow the Nazis. National Socialism is my religion. I believe in it and I look for the Fourth Reich."

He says it calmly, matter-of-fact, utterly without irony. Doles's agenda is now set by the National Alliance, founded by William L. Pierce, author of "The Turner Diaries" and inheritor of George Lincoln Rockwell's Nazi following. The alliance's literature embraces "racial cleansing of the land," takes a firm stand against "negroid" jazz and rock music, and, by name, Barry Manilow.

But Doles doesn't mention the implications for his friend, the black musician. Such talk would be impolite and impolitic. "I respect him," the neo-Nazi says. "I'll shake his hand. But I'll take my views to my grave."

but perhaps he has changed since then? two decades is a long ti-

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...d727b644a0b_story.html?utm_term=.3284bb244f79

A black pickup truck parked across the street, and a muscular man got out, and a reporter from the local paper who'd just arrived told the women it was Chester Doles, a former leader in the Klan and a white-separatist group called the National Alliance who had gone to prison on federal weapons charges. He lived just outside town and was currently a personal trainer who also worked promoting "hate rock" concerts around the country. He pulled out a cellphone and began taking photographs. He said something to the women, but they couldn't hear.

"What's that, sir?" Kahn called out, and the women heard him say something about how "glorious" it was to see such a sign in the light of day, and then he drove off, even as more people were arriving — white-haired locals, college students and others who said they were appalled; a Native American man who brought a ladder and tried to rip the banner down; a white man who argued the KKK banner and flag should come down but not the Confederate battle flag; a young black man who stood there crying.

but that's only one man. however when watching his accidental courtesy i couldn't help but shake the feeling that, like Chester Doles, many of the people he had helped "reform" still hold on to their racism. just a little tighter.

but i guess we should get to the crux of the issue. what are you saying by suggesting that i should engage with hateful individuals? why is it my responsibility, as a minority, to try and befriend or win over racists?

I was actually referencing that in terms of people asking jones to avoid Colin. Maybe interacting with Jones and seeing the differences between the audiences would maybe make a slight change. Maybe I am a hopeful idiot

I mean, I've lost respect for Jones as a result of this situation but there's still the other Allies who are great and do work that is deserving of your support.

I will say however that Jones' handling of this situation as well as his pretty lackluster contribution to recent podcasts have made me realize that I really don't want or need Jones on the EZA podcast every week and the permanent spot is wasted on him. I still love the guy but Ben or Huber would be much better permanent co-hosts and if they can't be here permanently I'd rather have all 3 seats rotate. The latter would fit with Frame Trap's switch to a 3 person panel which has reduced the speaking/screentime that some Allies get.

if you've followed anything about moriarty you should probably know that asking for a "slight change" might as well be asking for pigs to fly. again, no offense to jones, but i don't think he brings anything to the table in terms of changing moriarty's mind that others in the industry haven't already.

I didn't out you as a white supremist/neonazi. Maybe up your reading comprehension; my post doesn't try to out anyone, it points out the line of argumentation of someone who generally defends them.
Speaking of weak, I'm not the one who tried to remove my post with a quick edit. Maybe someone should have followed through with it.

I feel like, as Brandon said, there is going to have to be a pretty major talk with all the Allies on their "stances as a group", and I imagine this will involve avoiding bringing anyone with such controversial opinions as Colin onto their shows.

My thought is Brandon's appearance will be polite and friendly, but a freak occurrence and we won't be seeing any repeats of this in the future.

i mean, maybe you have a point. you shouldnt have to deal with this shit. you really fucking shouldnt. is it my job as a non racist, non minority to engage with these guys and try and change their mind? i believe so. and i do. i personally, think it would be helpful if you engaged too but i appreciate you shouldnt have to. just out of curiosity, where would jones fall on this spectrum? should he try and engage and win over racists?

I saw him engaging with a transgender person on twitter who asked him to not say things like "You can be a made-up-out-of-thin-air gender if you want", and he responded by saying he never said anything transphobic and the person could identify as an oak tree... when asked to listen to transgender people and respect them, he said that he did, and that the problem was on their end. I don't know if he's a lost cause, I would hate to say that about anyone, but as things stand, I can't imagine someone having a productive conversation about any of these topics with them. I don't think they will discuss anything like this on fireside chat, anyway, and Jones doesn't need to go to fireside chat to have a heart to heart with Colin, but he's made up his mind about that.

There comes a point where you have to cut your losses. This isn't Moriarty's first dance and people who have tried to engage with him in good faith have been sneeringly dismissed or outright abused.

While I hope we can all avoid unpleasantness like this in the future, I do also hope this doesn't stifle EZA's ambition to collaborate with more people. I would love to see them do stuff with folks like Arlo, Giant Bomb etc., and hope this doesn't make them weary of backlash in the future.

I hope that this is a big eye opener for the Allies, Jones in particular in this case.

Yeah, this is my personal stance. This entire situation has just been so befuddling because it can't be a surprise to anyone that Colin is so polarizing. Jones has said that he wants to try collaborating more, but there are so many people to collaborate with where no one would bat an eye. I just hope that the Allies choose more carefully in the future.

And yeah, hoping for the best for Huber's family.

I wish Huber's brother the best as well. Huber always talked very fondly of him as far as I remember and although Huber talks about most things fondly, I always get the impression they got along very well.
Hope it's nothing too serious and he will be ok.

Well, I hate this, a ton. Not going full on burn my Patreon/unsubscribing, FAR from that right now, but thinking about Jones appearing on a guys channel that has spewed so much hateful nonsense over the years and thus slightly giving him more gaming "legitimacy" kind of makes me ill. That I'm even in an EZA thread debating/thinking about CM annoys me a lot. Much of the EZA audience have been calling for more collaborations (I'm not one of them, got enough of them as is!), but the fact that one of the first notable times they do this is Jones with CM is disappointing. I can't imagine what he thinks the positives from this is going to be? Right now, it's just going to result in much of the EZA audience becoming toxic and yelling at each other for what seems like a completely self-inflicted instance. I'm giving Jones the benefit of the doubt here, and I can't imagine he completely thought through the ramifications of appearing with CM, but it's just a bummer of a situation.

Whatever. Most likely their conversation will be benign and forgettable, but I strongly hope that if he wants to expand EZA's outreach more, that he/allies/community think of better ways to go about it than this, because as a day 0 Patreon/subscriber/whatever else, this sucks and it came completely out of nowhere.

Sidenote: wishing the best for Huber and Jones/Amanda right now for their difficulties.

I don't care for Colin, but I am glad that Jones isn't afraid to do something that he wants to do while knowing full well that there are people who really want him to not do it.

There's one thing that really make this whole thing really puzzling:

Even if you remove Colin's political views and comments out of the conversation. Lets say he is just a regular guy in the industry with nothing controversial attached to him. You are still talking about a person that made derogatory comments about Kyle Bosman on a LIVE PUBLIC PSX PANNEL STREAM.
Why would you want to associate yourself with someone that insulted a close friend of yours like that.

I remember that! Did so despite only having cursory knowledge of Kyle Bosman (only knowing what the seemingly very immature Jaffe said and the fact that Kyle said KF was less than "kinda" funny in the Smooth Moves episode of Final Bosman). If Jones ignores the racist/transphobic shit Colin has said, perhaps he would react to someone showing this.

Folks we need the link to the VOD and a timecode stat!

I thought that was Greg that took issue with bosman

He did but that was on an episode on the Gamescast where they were talking about gaming personalities they liked, Tim said Kyle Bosman and Greg said the only thing he'd seen was Kyle saying KF was less than kinda funny.

Perhaps there's been more stuff but I haven't listened to KF for months now.
