https://comicbook.com/gaming/2018/1...a-donates-10-000-to-family-of-cancer-patient/

The donation from Bethesda was spotted by people within the Fallout 76community who noticed the GoFundMe page for a 12-year-old cancer patient named Wes had been updated with a sizeable donation and a comment from the studio. By either scrolling through the donations on shown on the right of the page or sorting the donations by the highest amounts given, Bethesda Softworks shows up as a donor of $10,000.

The GoFundMe for Wes was set up to raise money in the hopes of covering living expenses and costs associated with treating Wes, a child who battled stage 4 neuroblastoma for most of his life after being diagnosed at 5 years old. Wes, a Fallout fan from Virginia, passed away earlier in the month, and Bethesda Softworks left a comment on his GoFundMe page alongside the donation that called the boy "an inspiration to the Fallout community and everyone at Bethesda."

"You have been an inspiration to the Fallout community and everyone at Bethesda," the studio's comment said. "We will miss you, Wes. #WesStrong forever!"

Back in September, they brought him an early copy of the game to play because he was scared he'd die before the game came out. They drove 4 hours to him, let him play it, and gave him the Power Armour edition (signed by Todd Howard).

Sadly, he passed away earlier this month. But Bethesda went to the length of donating $10,000 to the family after the fact.

Obviously nothing will make up for the loss of their son, but it's a very sweet and humane gesture. Good on them.

Fuck cancer.

They should immortalize him in Appalachia somehow. Kudos to Bethesda.

A 12 year old scared of dying before the game he's looking forward to releases... jeez. Like everybody said, fuck cancer. Hopefully he had some fun with the Bethesda people.

I've become so cynical that my first thought was "10k in easy pr for them". But I have to look past that and say that 10k probably helped that family a lot. So cynic aside, good for them, happy for the family! I really hope the money helps make life a bit easier in what has to be a downright horrid time.

RIP Wes.

I hope that he was able to find some enjoyment in those final days. I'll echo the Fuck Cancer chants.

Awesome. Good people at BGS.

This kind of thing should happen more frequently. I often wonder how many fans die, before seeing the culmination of franchises they have spent years loving. Song of Ice and Fire for instance.

Good on them.

That would be really nice if they did that. And it's certainly not too late to do so.

RIP, Wes. I'm glad you were able to play it.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did, and I'm pretty sure each game had at least one all the way back to Morrowind (I think that one was the name of a dungeon). The example I remember the most is Erik the Slayer in Skyrim. Erik (I don't remember his last name) passed away shortly before launch and they immortalized him in the game with that character. He played Skyrim even before it was announced. Here's the Reddit thread with his mom talking about him playing it in one of the comments.
