Recent update before the 5PM data drop:
AZSEN: Sinema +35K votes
There are already calls to appoint McSally to the McCain seat as a consolation prize. After today's update, if it doesn't narrow, they'll call it for Sinema.

AZSOS (1st in Line of Succession, runs elections): Hobbs +3.6K votes
So close, it keeps swapping each update. Would be fascinating to see Ducey in an environment where if he leaves to run for POTUS, a Dem would replace him.

AZSOPI (Manages public instruction & schools): Hoffman +51K votes
Score one for Red4Ed. Garcia really sucked as a candidate if he couldn't make it a closer race while Hoffman pulls out a win.

AZCorpCommission (2 seats/5 total, regulates Utilities & Rates): Kennedy +8.8K votes
A Democratic solar advocate gets the most votes, while Prop 127 fails. We (AZ) really hate being compared to Cali. Burns gets an anti-corruption ally.

Doug Ducey running for President would be hilarious.

If the Maricopa results hold (basically 50/50), then it's not going to swap again.

Hobbs is massively favored in two of the largest districts still out (Coconino and Pima). This latest Pima drop puts her well above the margins from the last several days.

I don't understand how they can just keep swapping the McCain seat. Seems you should be able to appoint once, and that's it. Otherwise hold a special election.

You only get to hold a special under AZ state law during the next available regular midterm. So if Kyl bails tomorrow, that's still 2020. Ducey could appoint at will until 2020 settles it with an election.

Kyl was put into McCain's seat for one reason and one reason only. To Prevent any Kavanaugh fuckery. They were not gonna risk a Cindy McCain or similar suddenly voting no on Kavanaugh so they went with the literal DC Lobbyist for Kavanaugh. Kyl also from the start said he was only promising to serve through January so yeah I can see them giving it to McSally to try and build incumbency for her in 2020

In a shocking turn of events, if you count all the votes you can get a different result than if you stop way before you do

Elections are gravely compromised in the US

Tbh I hope they appoint mcsally. I'd rather a dem go up against someone who already lost an election rather then the gop have a chance at putting someone up without baggage who gains some popularity.

Maricopa posted and Sinema lead grew to 38K. I'd say stick a fork in it.

Hobbs is taking just fewer than 6k votes lead for AZSOS.

The party always whining about participation trophies is thinking about giving someone a Senate seat as a consolation prize?

Maricopa processed less than 20k today. This will take forever jeez
I believe they have to be done by Wednesday.

Maricopa was holding back a batch for some reason (I believe from the bucket that favors Sinema, so the last couple days have been votes that were supposed to be most favorable to McSally).

The race is over.
