I'd like to point out that I mentioned the open source thing already with Nadella era Microsoft and gave 2 examples (VSC and them joining the OIN). While I am extremely skeptical of the business culture actually changing that much and I hope you'll forgive me for that considering I've seen problems with Microsoft for nearly as long as I can remember at this point, I still notice these things and I definitely do respect when I see good decisions being made which wouldn't be made under Ballmer. I am sure some things do get green lit under him which wouldn't have been green lit before and didn't intend to make it seem like absolutely nothing ever changes and it's just some dude used as a scapegoat and that's it.

That being said - I hope we can both agree that when you have one person acting as the public face of the company or subdivision, the public put all the responsibility onto that person. There are places where I think this is exploited very deliberately, but I was probably wrong to generalize it.

I'll take the rest of the things you said on board, as someone who obviously hasn't had first hand experience with him it's good to know these things. My ranting has obviously set you off and I apologize for that. However, in the nicest way possible, I don't think the snide remarks at the start were really necessary.

I should also probably stop posting since I seem to be ranting more often than usual today.

Oh I was being sarcastic with how right on you were. Often companies and countries have figure heads so it's assumed that they are "running" things. Of course as you get older you realize it's not so cut and dry.

There are also variables that most of us just won't ever know which decisions are based on daily in business.

I remember when the team who made Kinect adventures shipped on the premise we would be working on a next gen new ip. I mean we had a rockstar team, vets from film (Disney,Sony ) and gaming (Mass effect , god of war, etc) , no way you stack a team this talented for just Kinect.

Fast forward and we not only had to do more Kinect but went outside gaming to interactive tv then hololens. Morale sucked.

But from a leader POV, you have two options pivot your team (100+) where funding is or cause them to lose their jobs. You can't share this at the time of course but decisions at that level can be tough. Lay offs don't just affect the people and their families directly impacted but everyone who is left too.

Business is really just a bunch of shifting priorities and most of the time there is good reason behind why things are not as valued. Leaders struggle with the right transparency balance. It's also rarely one person at fault and yes fall people are set up all the time even just to boost morale internally.

Microsoft's latest thing is

"Our mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more."

This is the company goal so you can see why gaming is not a huge priority.

I've been on teams that had reviews with Gates,Ballmer.

Gates: straight shooter , knows his stuff , be prepared to answer technical questions. With hololens he wanted to know about text clarity because how will office translate? What's the app product pipeline and tech stack?

Ballmer: no idea how he would react just be prepared for a reaction. Could swing either way, less technical than Gates.

Satya: from what I hear , much more personable but knows his stuff and will question just not nearly as intense. However his decisions are swift and impactful. Impress and he will remember but I also have a feeling he may remember disappointments too lol.

From my interactions with Phil. He's legit just a nice guy. Maybe too nice to be honest. It can be difficult to get things done when nice in corporate environments. I always got the sense he's loyal and one to wait for the right opportunity to push vs other leader types who will run over whoever is blocking their agenda for that week.

Phil is tough to judge because a lot of his role is public facing these days which is why Matt was elevated. Public facing roles representing big companies is no joke and you need to say what is required at times.

Reminds me of upselling rewards when I worked at blockbuster back in the day lol.

Also feel free to post! I only share my experiences just to add a different view.

Can people stop basing their opinion of the Resonance of Fate port on the words of a single person?

The port has problems for sure, but nothing that should immediately cross it off your list if you have a passing interest in the game. At the very least, do some research? On launch it had a memory leak issue, they patched it. On launch it didn't have an exit button, they patched one in. People complained about controller issues and UI bugs, they patched it. Currently there is an issue that effects SOME people with crackling/stuttering/out-of-sync audio. There is also a stutter issue when loading a new area. They are looking into this and hoping to patch further. (Most recent patch was less than a week ago.) I don't understand why everyone is so quick to write the port off on the command of a single person. Especially when some of you were beaming with hype beforehand...

Weirdos.

It's greatest sin is probably a lack of arbitrary resolution support which Durante already nailed it to a cross for in the last monthly thread. It goes up to 4K and only supports 16:9 resolutions down to 900p. Again, it does have issues. They are being worked on. PC Gamers have surely seen much worse ports. User reviews are still Very Positive (83%), maybe that's fueled by nostalgia, but the "crap port" reviews are the exception, not the norm.

Give 'em a chance at least.
============

Modern OSs use expansive file caches to speed up operations.

If the memory has nothing in it, it's wasted. The OS is able to purge the cache as necessary, so the memory is always available for the things that truly need it.

The only number that has any meaning is active memory (stuff that is filled and actually in use). Everything else is just standby that may or may not be used or purged at any time.

Makes sense, thanks!

The port is not great. The performance problems are real, the audio stutter is real (though partially fixed by switching to surround), and the limitations are real. They also made the KBM controls worse with the patch to allow up/down target switching on the controller (since the keyboard only has left/right, it makes the game's awful targeting controls even worse since it's now impossible to switch between certain targets at certain camera angles).

That said, it's perfectly playable IMO. Also, the game fully supports 16:10 output in fullscreen mode (since it uses the desktop resolution); it's letter-boxed and supports native up/downsampling (the game's resolution setting is used for the rendering resolution).

So what's the verdict on NVMe SSDs vs SATA SSDs for gaming?

I'm starting to look at prices and it's looking like that extra speed isn't worth it if I want to go all the way up to 2TB. I want to install more games, but I also want to move all my media to this drive and maybe at some point in the future reinstall Windows on it.

Storing media on an NVMe really is a waste, they're great if you work a lot with files thanks to the high IOPS, copying, moving, creating will be crazy fast. Load times should be a few seconds shorter here and there, besides Windows I mostly put multiplayer titles that regularly load levels and open world games that stream a lot on mine. But honestly for casual users like us they're a luxury and hard to justify, best thing about M.2 drives (which of course can be NVMe or SATA) is the form factor, tiny, out of the way, no cables. So get 2TB SATA now, smaller NVMe later.

I don't get salty as I am always sleeping as its night time when it happens. Honestly if this continues I think Queen should just stop it, it not worth the stress.

The whole PM harassment seems like a thing that's always happened with big gifters. I recall it happening to Sub-Zero and possibly Rhaknar in the past as well. Name and shame, weed out the rotten I say.

I discovered something new today that I've never heard of. My performance on Forza Horizon 3 has been much worse than before I reinstalled windows 10 a few days ago. I was almost certain that it would be because of some new drivers fucking something up. Then I started to think what could it possibly be before going through the DDU steps, because I sincerely never had any problems with driver updates from nvidia unlike others. What has changed in the past few days is that I acquired a new case, and remounted my system in it. During the process of remounting it I changed something based on aesthetics that I had absolutely no idea could tank my performance: GPU from slot 1 to slot 2. After fiddling with google for answers that was it: slot 1 is PCIex16 while slot 2 is PCIex4. After searching for it, it turned out that yeah, changing GPU from slot 1 to 2 was reducing my performace.

I've most certainly never heard of it. Interesting. Thankfully tried to think a bit before going through all the hassle of reinstalling older drivers which wouldn't help whatsoever.

The beam katana comes with Travis' masturbation charge emote.

Sorry if this was talked about, did anyone get an email about VIP GMG? I've bought just a handful of games from them and they said it's for "super-loyal customers". There's deals on pre orders and games already out but didn't seem like anything stellar.
