Even though the rumour originally was that they'd create a new engine for Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI, Bethesda have opted to stick with the same software they've been using, well, since Morrowind. Creation is also the Fallout 76 engine, and that's not necessarily an optimistic statement, considering.

It allows us to create worlds really fast and the modders know it really well," says Bethesda's Todd Howard for Gamestar. "That lets us be efficient and we think it works best." Whether it's worth the jank, though, is up for us to decide as end consumers.

That's gonna be a yikes from me dog.

Yeah I'm used to Bethesda's jank but damn I was at least expecting new Bethesda jank.

Jeez, Todd. You know if you just dump the old engine, the Final Pam will be stuck in there and she won't be able to break out and kill you, right?

So they called them "next-gen" titles and yet there won't be a new engine?

For the love of God... Stop it.

Looks like another generation of ignoring Bethesda games for me. I was really hoping they had a new engine in the works as well...

I had posted a story in another thread where they were only considering reusing creation/gamebryo.

Now it's definite?

That's ridiculous. Legit leaning toward passing on these games. That's insulting and I'd rather spend my money on games made by people who actually care about quality.

Lol. How are they not embarrassed to launch Creation Engine mainline RPGs after The Witcher 3, Red Dead 2 and AC: Odyssey?

This is a terrible, terrible decision.

I know they're familiar with the codebase, but just let it go, man. It's well past time.

EDIT: He's talking about the editor? Thank god.

Mods, please change the thread title it's grossly inaccurate.

Blizzard can work magic with an old engine, but I don't think I trust Bethesda on this. Especially with the wait between Skyrim and ES6, a new engine seemed like a certainty.

dang it, the new engine was the only thing that made me think I might actually be able to try their games without feeling a bit ill from the way it moves (something about the way the camera moves in their engines really makes me pukey :( )

That's pretty honest. I thought they would do the whole "Guys, it's got a new name so it's totally a different engine". Not that surprising though given how hard it is to make a new engine nowadays, especially for what they want to do with their games.
