When you are in the cube menu hit the L or R button and you will go to a page where you can choose your cube powers. I had a hard time finding it too being a longtime pc player.

Shit, so I started a game on normal campaign mode, should I have selected seasonal? This is my first time really playing the game. Created a Demon Hunter.

Additionally, I know on the PC you can hit ESC to pause the game of your not in a party, how can I do that on the Switch?

More people need to make Hardcore Seasonal characters. Left a public lobby up for over an hour and no one came through.

Since you are starting a new character on a new account, there is no negative to Seasonal characters since you have no money or stash items anyway. The bonus to Seasonal Characters being that you get to complete the seasonal challenges and get a guaranteed class based set that will make your character very powerful.

I would definitely suggest it if you can.

Its fine you can create another character and make it seasonal.

So, super newbie stuff here. Literally the first time playing the game ever on any platform. Went and made a seasonal character and started with the story campaign- only about level 18 now and still in the first act. Playing on normal difficulty- pretty much breezing through everything so far, and never came close to death. Diligently upgrading my equipment as I go, based on whatever is dropping, Got pretty much all Gold/orange tinted equipment appropriate for my level at this point- a few items have slots, but I have not picked any gems up yet, so I'm not sure if these drop in normal difficulty or not.

My questions is at what point should I bounce up difficulty, or do I just keep it on normal for this first campaign run.

For the record, I don't necessarily like my games brutal hard, and I certain don't want to deal with over the top"bullet sponge" enemies, but I also don't want to shortchange myself in Exp gain and loot acquisition, but it is advisable to increase difficulty at this point? Thanks

You can always change it back, so just bump it up. Normal is way too easy imo. If you aren't dying and things are dying fast, up the difficulty.

As soon as you breeze trough the game, try a harder difficulty. Until you hit level 70, Master is the highest you can choose. And that is, with a little luck with the loot, absolutely doable, may even be to easy. Higher difficulty means more exp, gold and better items, so you should always try harder difficulties, as long as you don't die all the time or killing takes to long.

I am also brand new to D3 - was enjoying the game as-was, but I've been gradually increasing the difficulty, up to master now, and I've enjoyed the game more and more with each increase. It's still doable but game now has some challenge!

Right - I'm 1 challenge away from getting my Seasonal gear reward.
I need to clear a level 20 Greater Rift, which I understand to be just below Torment 4.
I can get up to the boss within the 15 minute allocated time, yet because they are super spongey, it takes me a good few minutes to kill.

What am I doing wrong? Obvious answer is gear up, but literally all the gear that is dropping is worse than I have equipped.

Bump it up now. Unfortunately you can only bump it up one notch from what was originally selected.
Hard mode isn't hard at all. It's just Harder than Normal. Normal mode would be like an Extra Easy mode in any other game. There is no difficulty to speak of once you get the hang of things, which takes like an hour.

I advise anyone starting new start of Hard. You can always bump it down to Normal if it's giving you trouble but if even Hard mode is easy for you (trust me, it will be) you can at least bump it up another notch

If you come out of game of course you can bump it up more than one. I started in normal, and am now up to master, which is as high as I can get pre level 70.

you can choose torment pre.-70, thats how people boost you. Torment 6 is the highest IIRC from PC. The sweet spot is Expert tho, maybe Master when youre close to 70 or you got real lucky with legendaries.

edit: yup just checked, still Torment 6 as the cap.

So lots of people here are saying there's no downside to Seasonal characters, but it seems like you need to be online to play them?

I'm usually playing on my commute in the morning and afternoon and rarely if ever have connectivity during that time. One time when I tried to play the game told me "Your seasonal character isn't currently available" and I could only play with my non-seasonal characters.

You can start the seasonal character online at home and then continue it offline later. Or you could just use a hotspot for the initial conenction.

Separately to the above, is it expected that so many skills are just...seemingly useless?

I'm playing as a Wizard and am currently around level 20, and so many skills just have no use at all. And then I unlocked disintegrate and it seems pointless to use anything else since that's so powerful! Is this just a side-effect if still rising through the early game, or will this continue to be true even after I reach 70?

Ok, but that is a significant downside everyone here seems to be overlooking. I don't want to have to connect to a hotspot every time I want to play, very inconvenient.

I'll just keep using non-seasonal characters for now.

Do items in my stash carry over to any other new characters that I create? For example, currently playing as a Barbarian, if I decide to play the game with a Crusader, will Crusader items in my Barbarian's stash be available to the Crusader?

You can go all the way to 70 with Disintegrate. I usually switch to Blizzard with the Snowbound rune to hit large crowds of mobs.

You can play offline if you leave the game running in the background, but if you close it you have to reconnect to the servers. I had to create a hotspot on my phone to continue with my seasonal character.

No, you just need to be connected to start the character. I play season in airplane mode most of my time, just reconnecting at home when I go back to the dock for tv play or charging.

Since no one really replied to my local multiplayer questions, I guess no one really plays Diablo like my group of friends. We get together monthly for all night Diablo parties and for some crazy reason decided to start all over on the Switch. We thought that having multiple Switches would allow us to play together on one TV while also letting us handle inventory management on our own devices. This would make things go a lot faster as previously on the PS4 half our game time was spent waiting our turn to do inventory.

So on Saturday we tried playing Diablo 3 on one TV with 2 Switches.

Issue #0: We actually encountered this last week on one Switch, but every person needed to create a user account that had a linked Nintendo account. This wasn't actually a huge deal but we didn't realize this and lost an hour setting stuff up. If we had known better we would have each created a Nintendo account on our own ahead of time.

Issue #1: We had 3 sets of joycons and 1 pro controller. We wanted to do 3 accounts on 1 Switch and 1 account on the other switch. However the Switch complained about this saying something about there being too many connections. We eventually figured out that the Switch couldn't connect to 5 controllers (1 pro contoller and 2 sets of joycons) and also connect to the other Switch through a local connection. So we had to move one of the accounts on the TV switch to the other Switch, so that each Switch had 2 accounts on it. Then each Switch could handle the controller connections (1 pro and 1 set of joycons = 3, 2 sets of joycons = 4) and connect for local multiplayer.

Issue #2: Just because we were connected locally did not mean we could all just look at one screen, the TV. Instead the players connected to the non-docked Switch had to look at the their Switch because their characters were not bound to the same screen as the others. This caused neck cramping as half the players had to look away from the TV and instead focus on the handheld-sized screen we propped up on the coffee table. We tried to stay together so that we could all just look at the TV, but the non-docked players also couldn't see their dropped items or their pets.

It went fine and we lived with it. Cutting inventory management in half was definitely it. But next week, we're going to get a third Switch. With this setup, 2 players can play in handheld mode and only look at their own Switches while the other two can look at the TV. We started playing Diablo together on the PS3, which means we've spent years (monthly at around 6 hours each session) and money (PS3, game, and 3 extra controllers, PS4, game, and 3 extra contollers, now 3 Switches + 3 games) on this dumb/awesome game.

well, yes. But, some skills seem useless until there is a build designed around it with a bunch of items that boost / change it. For example, Condemn Crusader, nobody would ever use Condemn outside of that build.

But, as D3 newbies will learn, the game becomes VERY centered around 1 skill in the end game, and then a bunch of defensives. The whole game revolves around the sets, and the sets are very specific (or sometimes not but then its the items that are specific) to one skill. So for example, a typical build for any class at end game for greater rifts (which is the end game) will be:

1 resource spender (and sometimes not even that) that will be your main dps
1 big dps cooldown which you use to kill bosses (or nasty elite packs) super fast
1 resource gainer (that first skill you get when you start and you can choose from 4)
1 movement skill (because you need to move around and / or escape because bsically everything 1-2 shots you)
1 to 2 defensive skills (again, because shit hurts fam)
1 debuff (usually a mass slow or dmg debuff on mobs) if you only take 1 defensive

It's something you guys should know right now and wrap your head around. My best example is take the pet classes. You might be playing a Witch Doctor right now and all your skills are pets right, and offensive shit. You have your dogs, you have your gargantuan etc. Well, when it gets "real", you cant have the dogs, or the gargantuan (actually I believe there is a WD build focused around the big lug heh), everything is funneled to 1 skill because your simply need both the survivibility from the defensive skills, and the hgue dps boost that most big cooldowns (in Witch Doctor's casem, the big bad totem or whatever its called) give you.

I'm not trying to bum you out, its just that it was a bit of a shock to me at the time so I thought you should know now. Like, who wants to use defensive skills M I RITE? Well, if you want to actually do anything in end game, you kinda really have to :)

You can't go above "master" until 70. T6 is the max for fresh 70.

wait, are you guys talking about story mode or something? Because you can go up to T6 pre-70 on Adventure mode, which I assume most are using (well I guess the people completely new to the game would go story mode once).

edit: nope, just made a fresh level 1 character, in story mode, and I can go Torment 6 so I dont know wtf you guys are talking about lol :D

I mean, it's how you boost people. You go Torment 6 at level 1, and your level 70 friend takes you to rifts and you stay at the entrance while he kills everything.

Nah, I am talking about the story mode. After every D3 pause I love to replay the story. Thought it would be the same for the adventure mode.

Edit: Do you already have a Lvl 70 char?

If you are on the last challenge you should have the first 4 pieces of your set. Do you have those equipped?

The jump in power for crusader from rares to the set was insane. Even just 4 pieces.

I would suggest looking up your class on icy veins too. I have been following their fresh 70 guide and it us great. Farming torment 7 currently with no issues

Are you talking about warning about leaderboards preventing you from playing the seasonal character offline?

If so, you just have to wait 3-4 seconds to bypass it in my experience, played offline while washing my clothes

I blame Diablo 3: It clearly broke my left Joycon. The stick is starting to randomly drift around if I just nudge it slightly and then release it. Makes navigating menus a pain. Wasn't an issue before I started obsessing over loot and fighting the enemies of humanity. Dammit. Right after the whole thing's out of warranty. Figures. Now I'm hella paranoid about accidentally running away from a conversation.

Oh well.

Show of hands: Has anybody tried the Amiibo functionality and actually gotten something useful from it? Activating the rune and then tapping the Amiibo probably takes more time than fast-traveling somewhere and running around till you find a rare mob.

Also: Found a legendary (Sebor's Nightmare) that casts Haunt on all enemies in range when I open a chest(/nudge a corpse/interact with anything that spawns items). This is crazy overpowered. Enemies just immediately die, and the effect is infectuous so entire armadas of mobs can melt within seconds, off screen for the most part. Amazing stuff. The game basically plays itself ...if I manage to keep the chain alive or keep a corpse etc handy.

I just have to do "reach greater rift level 20 solo" to finish chapter 4 season. I don't understand this one, being i did a couple of rifts on my season character. Am i suppose to start a new character and do greater rift till i get to level 20?

You can select the level of Greater Rifts, just select level 20 and solo it. You do need a rift key to do a greater rift, which you get from doing normal rifts (only at character level 70).
