$.02 have been deposited into your ShillEra™ account.

And $.02 have been deposited into you UselessPostEra account.

Such a quality first post.

Maybe instead of being first, you should have done some actual research, bro.

Like how the old model never went on sale for less than 399.99 (unless you count the week it was clearanced at 349.99 for this new model).

Or how this is the gold standard for best screen quality of all consumer HMDs. It's an absolutely amazing deal for those looking for a new VR HMD (your shitposting notwithstanding).

Might have been interested if they actually bothered to sell it in the UK. :/

It was just a joke directed at your language lol, I've never seen someone use "best in class" other than marketers and sales people. Legitimately came off as a sales bot account.

Fair enough. I've seen plenty of people (myself included) say Vive has best in class tracking. Don't really think it's a controversial statement when something is a clear step ahead of the competition, but maybe it has lost meaning because of marketers.

Does this come w/ the controllers? They're in a few of the pictures but it doesn't say anywhere that I can find.

Does this come with the controllers? It's hard to tell. Also is it like a vive or rift? Looks like vive based on the controllers.

They specifically mention the controllers in part of the text. Controllers included are also listed in the specs.

In what way are you talking? Finger tracking? If so, no. The controllers have an analog stick like Touch, and a trackpad like Vive, but they don't have finger tracking if that's what you mean.

EDIT: On the chance you're asking how it's tracking: neither. It's like the upcoming Oculus Quest. It uses internal cameras for inside-out tracking. You don't connect any tracking devices to your computer with this.

2nd Edit: Just to clarify my first edit, the Vive doesn't actually require the lighthouses be plugged into a computer. But Vive/Rift both require external tracking devices (even if Vive only requires it be plugged into a power outlet).

If only Phil Spencer hadn't removed the WMR features from the X1X. (For those who don't know, they had it working as of March 2017, but Phil killed it right after he assumed full control of Xbox)

The X1X is the only device in my house powerful enough for VR, and Phil artificially crippled it. I'm bitter.

Damn, this is a great deal but I'd rather buy from Best Buy as I have a bunch of gift card money. It's weird how so far they only seem to be selling the Odyssey+ direct through their website with no other retailers, and it's already at such a huge discount mere weeks after launch...makes me think sales must be pretty abysmal.

What kind of games can you play with this? like is it fully steamvr compatible?

Seems to be windows store focused with some steamvr support.

It just doesn't make business sense tbh. The PS4 has like 80 million + sales but PSVR is still a tiny fraction of that. VR for XBONE would be a bad call this late into the gen...maybe it will come for the next Xbox if anything.

I'm not sure if it's technically fully compliant with every game, but MS has made it fully compatible with SteamVR (they even created their own SteamVR reprojection system that was superior to the Vive's solution until recently.) You can also use SteamVR and Revive to play Oculus exclusive titles. Obviously you're adding a lot of layers of software to this, but it definitely works.

good to know. I really just want an official MS made 100% compatible standard headset, or I'll probably wait to see what ps5 brings. If steam wasn't so google (flaky long term support for things once they aren't cool for the engineers to want to work on any more), I might have gone with one of theIR things. I kinda hate facebook and other addictive exploitative suicide increasing social media, so Oculus is out.

arggg, toy selection should not be this complicated.

Technically, this is the official MS headset. You don't have to use Steam or Facebook and can run everything natively with Windows. Unfortunately, that means you're limited to whatever is available for WMR on the Windows Store. I don't think there's much there, however, and I certainly wouldn't recommend that route. With rumors of Valve entering the official hardware business, I don't see them abandoning Steam VR anytime soon. They also seem to update it every day or so. There's also the hope that once the Khronos XR standard emerges (and Valve is at the lead of that), Valve will likely transition SteamVR into OpenXR. So SteamVR will hopefully morph into a truly open standard.

How does this stack against Vive/occulus/psvr?

I got a new PC rig and already have PSVR but have been wanting a better vr set. I love psVR but would like to get the better beat saber, etc.

Do these work with steam VR and occulus store (with 3rd party tools obviously).

It works well with SteamVR and need 3rd party tools for Oculus store.

It has inside out tracking so while the setup is much easier, its tracking is only slightly better than PSVR imo

I guess I don't care too much about tracking, but having the PC version of VR games. Like beat saber allows for customized tracks and SkyrimVR can have much better IQ on the PC version. That's all I really want.

I'm assuming the controllers can only be tracked when they're in view of the headset? What's the FOV of the tracking cameras?

Anyone have experience with this HMD that can compare it to the Rift/Vive image quality?

It's sold out on Samsung's website, but B & H has it for pre-sale at 299.99.

Newegg has it live at 299.99:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...&cm_re=samsung_odyssey-_-26-190-064-_-Product

As does MS:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/samsung-hmd-odyssey/8n2d0nk20p8m/jtx4?activetab=pivot:overviewtab

Amazon is selling the old model for 299.99 (old is ZAA and new is ZBA). I'm kind of waffling at the moment, because they have a page for the new model:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Elec...800ZBA-HC1US/dp/B07HS7R1RT/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

And I'd prefer them for the easiest returns.
