FFXIII trilogy arrives on XB1 BC 11/13 (X enhanced in 4K)

I couldn't play FFXIII any longer after I dragged myself through it to chapter 11 and half-way through it. I simply watched every remaining cutscene on YouTube and was done with it – and after seeing what was to come I was glad I stopped playing.

I think JRPG aren't just my cup of tea. The only JRPG—Lost Odyssey—that got me intrigued ruined everything with random encounters. I'm glad for the FFXIII lovers, though.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Tom Clancy's H.A.W.K. are just recent examples of the digital game not being listed/relisted for purchase after becoming BC.

I don't agree. XIII and XIII-2 have one of the best battle systems in the genre. The issue is that it takes too long to open it up fully in the original.

My personal dream is an XIII-influenced battle system in XVI in something of a less linear world. But no open world, please.

Hassle free sounds pretty good to me lately. I'm not a big fan of older pc games with tiny UI at high resolutions, whereas BC versions are usually better about that. Even with newer games, its usually a more hassle free way to play at high resolution on an X than a PC, unless you have an expensive build or play on low.

XIII-2 and LR both had a CG beginning and ending, as well as a couple small clips in between.

The quality is a bit better (because again, it's mostly just two movies this time), but they're still fairly compressed compared to the PS3 versions, as they use the Bink codec to get the videos small enough for everything to fit on one DVD.

They still hold up well on a 1080p tv at least, I didn't see a whole lot of artifacting but I'll be curious to see how they look on a 4K tv.

Nice finds, I'm probably just getting the first physical since I already have 13-2 & Lightning Returns digitally.

I might also pick up some of the DLC in some of their digital bundles but boy do they have a lot.

Aren't the CG cutscenes in the 360 version of FFXIII at a subpar quality?

Unless they somehow replaced those, it'd still be much better to play the original PS3 or PC version.

I feel cheated lol. My copies of the second and third games were in the generic cases, no manual or anything. That fold-out poster looks really cool.

Still, can't beat $10 for the entire trilogy.

What I don't understand is when people say 'it gets good 30 hours in'

All that changes is that you're doing the same battles you've been doing the past 30 hours without a tutorial. Nothing changes, nothing was exceptional about the battle system. You all attack, change options to heal, attack again.

I doubt if XIII had an interesting story, it would have been better in the battle aspect.

I wanted to like it. Hell, I beat it...I beat it without understanding anything of what they were talking about. Two worlds, leCie is all I really remember about it now.

I'd take ffx-x2. The battle system was a bit more fun, but again, the story and villain were god awful.

It's great you can play these games on a newer system, but I was out after the first.

It tells you exactly how many materials you need to upgrade weapons and what the weapons will eventually turn into (which is a big deal in this game).

The weapon upgrade system is probably the worse part of the game. And counterintuitive. It's most efficient if you don't do any upgrades till you get to Gran Pulse.

Holy shit. Definitive edition incoming.

The PC version claims to run at 60fps, but there are hard-coded engine limitations that force it to 30 all the time, resulting in absolutely horrendous stutter. And locking it at 30 isn't a great solution because it's plagued by micro-stutter.

I adore FF13 and the PC version has always been an abject disappointment. Count me in for the XBX version.

This reminds me that I'm still mad at Square that they didn't continue the Collector's Edition trend for Lightning Returns haha (at least in the EU, but the US CE also has a different style). It would have made such a great looking trilogy in the shelf. I have the PS3 versions though.

Just ordered all three games for 360 again for about 10€, looking forward to seeing them in 4K.
