Didn't care for white knight chronicles or most level 5 games on ps2 like that galaxy rpg game. Did they make dq8 tho?

Anyhow, how's ni no kuni 2, despite the awesome graphics of the first I skipped it do to turn base combat so when I see ni no kuni2 action rpg it calls out to me.

NNK 2 is ok, but not even close NNK 1.

They have great franchises like Yo-Kai Watch, Professor Layton, Inazuma Eleven... worth checking out.

The difficulty for combat is pretty low, you can mash through a lot of stuff without much strategy unless you opt to go for some of the optional harder fights. The writing is bland as well so I'd hazard a guess that you won't enjoy it that much.

NNK2 is bad. DQ8 is pretty much the only L5 game worth playing cause they weren't responsible for the writing, art design or music.
What a boring generalization.

Layton 3 snaps. Fantasy Life is one of the best life sims, YW3 is amazing and is coming soon...

Also, Dragon Quest IX is very good but I guess they skipped from VIII straight to XI.

Not good. It has many different modes but doesn't do any of them well. They patch in some hard modes but the game is really easy.

You're asking the wrong forum. Around these parts, people have a hate boner for Level 5.

Not me though, I think they're great, and Ni no Kuni II is a good game.

It's really mediocre. The first one is much better.

While it has the greatest opening of any game in existence, its not especially good. It can be quite charming and has some best ideas, but it's also kind of just boring.

Disappointing in almost all aspects outside of the visuals. A complete letdown for me after the phenomenal first game.

Its charming and the artstyle is beautiful, but literally every character that isn't Roland is ugly as hell and disgraces the art of character design, and around 2 dungeons in a really REALLY boring and bland Kingdom Management Simulator appears and I immediately stopped playing.

It's story is also kind of bland. Mouse villains are lame and I'd rather them have leaned further into flip flopping between Real World and Fantasy stuff, than have 5 minutes of Real world and then nothing for more than 20 hours.

I guess to further extrapolate OP. It's one of the "safest" RPGS I have ever played. Every gameplay system is wafer thin, there are never any surprises, all the characters have barely any character to them. The story is incredibly mundane and slow, your objectives seem petty and like that guy above said, "meandering". It's just so absurdly average, there is no fun or life to it.

I loved it.

One of the biggest complaints it had from the beginning was easy difficulty which they patched later on with 2 more difficulties. Hard & Expert.

Graphics and artstyle is great and I loved the music. The world is vast and colorful and I couldn't help but fly my ship all over the overworld when I got the chance. The story will be hit or miss and another complaint was not having full voice acting which wasn't an issue for me.

Pretty, but meh. NNK1 was so much better it's not even funny. I hate turn based combat but the first one on Easy was manageable. If you wanna play a NNK, play the first one.

The game itself is fun, a typical bedtime story. But dragon quest xi set the bar too high nnk2 became more "mundane"

It was so boring I didn't even bother to finish it.

The best part of the game was a kingdom building section where you gave orders and then spent 30 minutes or more doing something else. Like hitting your head against a wall. Which was more enjoyable than the actual easy combat game or its vanilla ass story.

In regards to all of the people saying it was "too boring because it was easy" or plainly saying "it was too easy"

They added harder difficulties to the game:
https://youtu.be/WojJZXc_bwc

The game is a LOT harder on the harder difficulties, where random battles will bat you around like nothing.

Nnk 1 wasn't turn based though? The battle system wasn't great, but it was definitely real time.

To answer the thread, Nnk 2 is serviceable and has some good moments, but there are far better jrpgs from the past few years to play

I think it's one of their weaker games, despite platinuming it. Much preferred the original Ni No Kuni / everything else they did before White Knight Chronicles.

Still a pretty solid title / ~7/10.

I just love this defenseman - "the game is good everyone complaining about it are just haters". The game had a ton of issues from juvenile writing, ugly overworld, combat difficulty at launch, minimal voice acting and disjointed cutscenes that barely lasted one minute. Absolutely not surprising at all that a lot of people didn't think it was very good.

Echoing a lot of comments here, 2 felt boring and is decidedly worse than the first. Much of the charm just feels zapped out of it. Biggest disappointment I've had in some time for video games.

Not a fun game at all. Got maybe 5 hours in and dropped it because I couldn't find a redeeming thing about the game.

It's a fine enough game that has some major flaws. Don't go in expecting great character design or narrative, but check it out if you're interested in some solid ARPG mechanics and kingdom management.

It feels like it didn't have the budget to fully realize what it wanted to do.

It's an almost aggressive waste of time. The story isn't good, it's filled with time-wasting mechanics and the characters are bland. I would say the game is also too easy, but there was a difficulty patch added in after I'd dropped the game, so I ca't comment on those.

It's really not worth your time.

Played halfway through, then I couldn't bother anymore. Especially the old school overworld was so boring and restrictive. Sold the game eventually

I love level 5 games... and NNK II is THE WORST between all the good - awesome games they made.

The story is the worst I've ever played in any JRPG game in my entire life.

I feel so mad at them because of the awful bad stupid idiotic writing in this beautiful package.

They need to hire new writers seriously.... a child in elementary school can come up with better story and lines.

It's okay. Much better than the dreadful first game but I wouldn't expect any revelation here. Much better games out there so it's difficult to recommend.

It's a Level 5 RPG. That means very pretty visuals, fantastic production values and very, very boring and unimaginative gameplay.

Level 5 always manages to fuck up their games. They always look so cool on a surface level, but then you play them and it's always filled with bad game-design, boring levels and dumb gimmicks. I wish they would just make a straight-forward traditional game.

Horrendously run of the mill. I was so looking forward to it as well. Fortunately we now have DQ11 if you truly are looking for an excellent JRPG.

Man, what a disappointment it is to hear the game turned out to be mediocre. I would have played it but the chibi artstyle and the kingdom building totally put me off.

Hearing that the first one is better is surprising to me because I remember people being extremely negative about the first one (and implying that the sequel improved upon it).
