Let us remember all the release day glitches that judging by the Switch release thread still haven't been fixed. :P (Stop following me, Farkas!)

Feels way longer than that.

Played it on 360 and PS4 VR and still never finished it either time.

I didn't even get the game until the next year, but boy do I remember the zeitgeist. It wasn't Fortnite levels, but it was possibly the biggest I had seen in my lifetime. People that didn't game knew about Skyrim, and some even bought systems to play it.

The 11.11.11 marketing campaign was amazing.

This is why I still remember the release date! Believe Uncharted 3 launched the same day, too.

Think that's a long time, by the time TES6 comes out they would have put this franchise on hold for at least 12 years (could easily be much more).

Rather irresponsible if you ask me, to put your mega franchise on hold like that. Just imagine this, someone who was born on 11-11-11 would be in middle school by now (USA example). Can you imagine the uproar if R* decided to not make another GTA for 12 fucking years?

They should have outsourced another game (F:NV style) instead of essentially putting it on an indefinite hold.

Yes I'm salty and a little angry about it. Starfield better be one hell of a game.

I'm currently playing it on the switch. Surprisingly it looks fine in handheld mode but terribly dark and over saturated on my oled. The settings on the tv and switch match it just looks bad. I don't get it as Skyrim on my Xbox One X looks fine on the tv. Very frustrating because I've been traveling and playing it on the switch is the one thing I can look forward to doing on the plane. Anyway, great game. Still love the music, atmosphere, and sense of wonder I get to this day.

I always wanted either ES to be the world after Fallout or the prehistory to the world of fallout

I have some really fond memories of playing Skyrim, particularly the first 20-30 hours or so. Just exploring, finding cool quests and encounters. It was comfy as hell.
Funnily, I never finished the actual main quest, and I'd be hard pressed to tell you what its even about. Wandering around was way more fun.

Did they ever fix the scanline bug on the Xbox (possibly One X was the only affected platform, can't remember)? It affects ALL users. Kind of hard to see but once you see it you can't unsee it.

at the time i was dicking around with morrowind on my beater laptop, thought it was just some old game and not part of an ongoing series. then my boss started geeking out over pre-ordering something called Skyrim and as he went on about it i was like "hold the fuck up... you mean there's an Elder Scrolls 5??"

i was broke back then and didn't have any current systems so my head was swimming about how this Skyrim thing must be the game to end all games. after a few weeks i said fuck it, went down to gamestop and bought a 360 with skyrim... man i don't think i left my apartment for months aside from work. once i took a break from the game to get lunch at a chinese buffet and i swear to god i saw the button prompts in my vision when i tried to pick up the chop sticks. game had me by the balls so hard

finally, finally started getting sick of the game about a year ago and uninstalled it but i play it on psvr now and again and still discover new stuff. guess i'll never really get away from this game until ES6

The memories I have for this game. One of my all time favorites. Can't wait for the next iteration.

Read Dead Redemption 2 is giving me similar vibes.

Anyways, I'm longing for the next game so bad. Seeing people say we're 5 years or so from it makes me sad.

If setting up my VR wasn't a huge pain in the ass, I'd celebrate by playing VR. I really do want to do more with it, because of all of the VR experiences I've tried, it's the first one that really 'worked' for me. Maybe it's the familiarity, maybe it's just it was already such a convincing world... but damn, exploring place and really finally appreciating their size and scale... Whew!

I actually got the original Skyrim from trading a hat in Team Fortress 2 for it. I didn't have a need for the hat, and I wasn't going to pay for Skyrim since I didn't like previous elder scroll games... but I wanted to play a new game and figured I'd probably not play it after a few hours. Then it turned into my most played single player game. Best game related trade I'd ever done.

Skyrim was one hell of a game when it first came out, hell there's people who played it the first time when it came out on Switch some time ago. Despite being the butt of a lot of jokes, the game was a pretty freaking amazing achievement back in day.

It was truly the adventure of a life time... I spend more than 100+ hours and got the Platinum Trophy.

Can't believe we have to wait at less another 5 years for TES VI :-(

I was still playing last year, and even to this day I still haven't actually finished the damn thing even though I've spent like 300+ hours into the game lmao.

Looking at the vanilla version, it look very ugly now.

Man, 7 years. Holy shit. I remember telling my girlfriend that we wouldn't see each other again after the game came out. Spent over 100 hours in the land of Skyyyyriiiiiiim but never finished it :D

I tried playing it again after getting the remastered version for free on Steam, but I just can't do it anymore.

I still boot it up from time to time. The game has its faults, but man, it has its strengths too.

I really can't wait for the next game on next-gen consoles, but god damn Skyrim is great. I will forever feel angst towards Elder Scrolls Online game because I feel like it's existence and the team wanting to work on other titles lead to the current wait for another game.

Here's to 7 great years!

Cheers to the game ive def put in the most hours to ever (thanks to mods)

Seriously modding skyrim is a big puzzle but its so satisfying when youve figured it out and playing the game itself after succeeding feels so rewarding

I've started so many characters in Skyrim, but always end up with a sneaky archer in the end.

I remember using a Vpn to play it early. Played the entire day. Good times.

If you liked Skyrim try the overhaul mod Enderal. Definitely keeps the wait for the next Elder Scrolls bearable.

I remember on launch night telling myself I would just play for a few minutes and before I knew it a few hours had gone by and I was quite tired for work the next morning. It was such an incredible game then and I enjoyed it just as much when I played through the special edition as well. A part of me wishes that Fallout wasn't a thing so that we wouldn't have to wait so long for ESVI.

Obligatory:

Even though I didn't get the game at launch, I did buy it in that amazing 33% off sale for the holidays on Steam that same year. Greatest gaming experience in years, playing it non stop, seriously dropped my other top played games just to play this game. Haven't made time to play the Special Edition, but will happily do it and work towards all the achievements all over again someday.

To think I almost skipped this game because I didn't enjoy Oblivion as much as I did Fallout 3... There was this guy in CS:S changing his name every single day to keep a countdown of days until the game's launch... I never saw him again after "1 day until Skyrim". lol

Probably one of the hypest games for me when first teased. The 360 version came out just two days after my birthday. Ended up rushing to 100% my Oblivion copy beforehand. Ever since IV, I was hooked in this world.

Was there for the midnight release at college but only had a couple of hours to play before I had to sleep and got rewdy for class. It was so easy to get lost in sidequests like every Elder Scrolls game. It's hella fun gathering Shouts and just as much fighting dragons, if not tough or frustrating.

Now I decided to play the PS4 Special Edition ( though I considered buying the Switch one) and I was reminded of how huge, immersive, and (often) glitchy this game is. Always being a sneaky Khajiit archer mage, with some sword skills, and gathering so much treasure, I always end up overencumbered.

Looking forward to how the next ES is like, whenever it comes out.

The 11.11.11 marketing campaign was amazing.

First TES that released on its original launch date, and that came at a pretty steep cost. The quality of the questlines clearly suffered compared to the previous games. And if you go rummaging around in the data you'll see that quite a bit of content was cut (more than usual for games in development). Hell, the civil war quest was supposed to be 2-3 times bigger and much more dynamic, and a lot of that content was technically closed to finished and still in the game, but it was merely disabled likely from insufficient QA to make it more playable.

It feels crazy that we have had zero news of TES VI, other than the minor tease at E3. Even Starfield, which apparently will be released first. I wonder if they are waiting for next-gen announcements before we get any solid information?

Great game. Finished it and all of the story DLCs on XBox 360. Played it for over 100 hours.

Amazing game, one of my favourite of all time! Wandering through Skyrim was always magical, at any and every moment I played the game - even as recently as when playing it on the Switch! Absolute gem, and formative for my gaming taste I think (although Oblivion did quite some work in that direction, too).

I love the atmosphere, the soundtrack. I could explore the woods and roads for days, even if the main quest is a bit formulaic, I just like wandering. Dragonborn was full of extra weirdness too, I like that expansion. Still one of my favourite games to relax with on the commute, thanks to the Switch.

I should give this game a proper go. I normally love generic fantasy but from those I've played Bethesda games just do nothing for me.
