Kickstarter just ended, Swery did a good stream with his translator and answered a lot of interesting things.
Really happy this is happening, and I admit a few questions answered made me more excited. Now to wait two years for release (hopefully).

damn, I had no idea what this charge was lol. I was about to contact my bank cus I had no idea. Was just thinking, what the Hell did I buy from japan. Finally figured it out lol

As in, I took a photo of the couple and what now? When I talk to the dude it doesn't seem to do anything, and I took a picture with the other dude in the "fish restaurant"? but he's just drinking coffee and... Yeah... this is strange lol
It does work (at least the quests I did). A number of NPCs will act differently depending on how close you are to them so put some distance between you and your target and observe. Also, regarding the couple, if you're doing the quest for the guy next to the car, you're probably taking pictures of the wrong people. I spent a lot of time taking numerous pictures of them before I found the person I was actually supposed to be targeting. When you get it right, you'll know immediately as the quest will update.

From here on out, we'll be posting updates once a month to make sure we keep you all informed and don't let you down. In the updates, we'll give you the latest news on the development progress and other items, so please keep an eye out for them!
If your Kickstarter payment failed ――
Directly after the Kickstarter campaign ended, we received many messages from backers who were experiencing problems with getting their payments processed. About half of the backers that saw their Kickstarter payments failed at the end of the campaign managed to fix their issues during the grace period.
Unfortunately, we still have backers that were unable to fix their payment during Kickstarter's automated grace period. In order to solve this problem, we are preparing to set up a PayPal account where you can make your payment to us.
Once preparations are complete, we'll send out a separate update to all backers who were unable to process their payments on Kickstarter. Please just wait a little bit longer.
State of Development ――
Three weeks have passed since the campaign ended.
Now that the campaign is behind us, we are doing many things that are not very exciting nor very visual. We're managing our funds, rescheduling our production plan, looking at overall game plan, and deciding on what all we'll realistically be able to include in the game.
But this is still a very important step in game creation, and a necessary one that everyone at White Owls and Grounding has gone through numerous times.
We're sorry we can't provide you with new screenshots this time. But we believe that all our faithful supporters will understand and continue to trust in us!
Stretch Goals ――
At the end of our campaign, we managed to gather funds beyond our initial goal. However, as written earlier, there are still a large number of backers who were unable to successfully process their payments.
Solving these problems is our top priority right now. Therefore, we plan to decide how to use the additional funds after we first solve these problems. Once everything is in order, we'll prepare a report for you!
The BitSummit ――
We took the playable demo of The Good Life to BitSummi, Japan's biggest indie event. We met with many people who came to the event to cheer us on, play The Good Life, and also simply to greet us as backers. It was a very important event for us in that regard.
Two great things about this event are that it's centered around indie games, which is rare for a Japanese event, and also that it takes place in Western Japan, where White Owls is located.
With that in mind, we took part in this event not only to introduce The Good Life to Japanese indies fans, but also to support a very important event for the Japanese game industry.

New update today. Pretty cool that a group from the dev team are going to be visiting and researching some rural English towns.

On the morning of June 18, there was a big earthquake in Osaka.
It shook a lot, but luckily all my staff members and my office made it out okay.
Currently we're experiencing small aftershocks, but things are calming down.
I'd like to send out a big thank you to all the fans who contacted me and asked if I was okay.
It reminded me once again how many people love this project, and re-energized my focus.
Thankfully, this earthquake didn't affect the development of The Good Life in any way.
So please relax and continue to watch over us as we work on the game!

After looking at many different options, we have established how we are going to help dropped backers (backers whose payment didn't go through after the end of the campaign).

Backerkit pre-order store
The pre-order store will open with our next update in July.
You will be able to pre-order some of the items from the campaign.
Note that as a backer, you will have that option when we open up the survey system (sometime next year, closer to the launch of the game), so don't feel like you have to rush.
The pre-order store is mainly meant for those who entirely missed the campaign.

England research confirmed!
In the beginning of July, our art team will be the first group to head out on a research journey to England's Lake District! We'll fly in to Manchester, then rent a car and travel from there.
Main locales we plan to visit:
Windermere
Grasmere
Ambleside
Kendal
Near Sawrey
Kesewic
...and maybe a few others!
We plan to do research on England's rural towns, history, culture, food, clothing, and houses in order to deepen our understanding and ideas for The Good Life.
We're going to each put ourselves in Naomi's shoes and try to experience as much as possible before we return! We can't wait to see what sort of adventures we encounter!

New development info! Now working on level design!
We're currently working on the level design for the world map.
The first step is to figure out how to give the full open-world map a sense of scale, how to make it visibly accessible, and how to create it properly.
We're going to do things like measure the distance that Naomi can travel by walking and double check differences in elevation as we continue to work on the map.
We've also got a research trip planned, so we intend to work that our data into the map. We want to create a vivid map that allows you to take beautiful pictures from any angle you want, so we hope you're excited to see the final product!

lol at that spelling of Keswick, but yeah, they're good choices for places to visit. The Lakes are really one of the few places left that are archetypal arcadian England (for tourism reasons). The options would have been some of the more rural areas in the Shires (well, and Cornwall, but that has a completely different vibe). Glad they're commiting to fact finding though, the weird, well observed, details are core to Swery's games.

I have to wonder if the gamepass effect can provide the short-term increase in actual sales in smaller games like they do for the AAA titles.
I am watching, it was small but it got talked about and like 10 seconds of screen time.
I'm game for Swery getting more exposure and Good Life.
I'm very pleased about the Xbox announcement as someone whose primary platform is that. I tend to have a Game Pass sub active more often than not, so that feels a little redundant when I selfishly think about my own funding for the reward (PS4 digital tier that I'll likely transfer to Xbox now, assuming there's is no Switch option w/ no surcharge), but overwhelmingly the part of me that "donated" just to see the project happen is extremely happy for Swery and the team with the hope Game Pass brings them great exposure and success!
On the topic of Swery and Xbox One: Please grant us an Xbox One X Enhancement for Deadly Premonition, The Powers That Be
Poor SWERY haha! At least Gamepass will back Good Life release on the Xbox, I suppose.

I was wondering what the fuck the box art was, I assumed it was a different game from SWERYs. And was shocked to see it was the actual Good Life.
Bad times lol.
The wording Microsoft is using is "...will come to Xbox Game Pass the very same day they debut on Xbox One". So if it's out the same time as the PS4/PC versions, then yeah.
Shame the KS fell just short of the Switch goal. Was hoping they would do it anyway but it seems up in the air still.
