I need it to be pitch black to easily fall asleep. Whenever I need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night my Philips hue lights got me covered, light turns on as soon as I walk out from the bedroom thanks to the motion sensor.

No. I have black-out blinds that make my room completely dark. I can't even see my hand in front of my face. There is enough light from the street to light the rest of my home at night.

I've got one in the adjoining bathroom. Already broken my big toe once before. You do NOT realize how much weight you put on those things, until you can't.

In the bedroom no, but I have several around the place in case I have to get up in the middle of the night.

Unashamed to say I'm uncomfortable sleeping in pitch blackness.

Usually have the TV on.

Nah I need blackout blinds or a sleep mask to really sleep soundly. [edit: oh god I forgot about bright alarm clocks. my least favorite thing in the world] I do keep one in my bathroom because I'm gonna need light to use it at night but it won't be as harsh as going from pitchblack to the bright bathroom lights

I sleep with the light on, in my room! The legit light on the ceiling! Not afraid of the dark or anything, just too lazy to turn it off lol

All the lights on the various electronics I own make night time almost daylight.

No, why would you need to leave a light on when you're going to sleep. If I wake up in the middle of the night and need the bathroom I turn the light on then.

No, light has always bothered me though, even as a kid. I prefer it as dark as possible.

Yeah, I do. When I have women over, my excuse is that I use one so I don't step on stuff or stub my toes, etc. :p.

Not since I was 12 years old, no.

Just turn it off and let fear wash over you. The human mind isn't designed to be in a constant state of fear so it's gonna pass in a more or less timely manner.

Nope. To get a good night's sleep my room has to be dark and silent. I struggle whenever I'm on night shifts as no matter how much stuff I put up in my windows it's never dark enough.

Sometimes, but it's one of those wax melters. So it's for smell not light. I don't really need light but it also won't keep me up. I sleep through tornadoes and shit. I can sleep no matter what

I sometimes nap with the lights on. Stops me from overdoing it.

Not a night light per say, but I usually leave a soft hallway light on that's outside my bedroom. I'm not big on sleeping in total pitch black, I like to be able to see my surroundings when I wake up.

I keep my blinds open whenever sleeping usually and so I'm used to sleeping with the city lights.

I never did even as a child. I've always easily navigated to the bathroom or kitchen at night without turning on a light either.

I leave the light in my computer room on all the time, which lights up the hallway at night so I can see where I'm walking. It's mostly because I don't want to step on a scorpion in the middle of the night

I have one in the hall way and one in the kitchen.

Not scared of the dark, just dont want to trip and kill myself in the middle of the night. My cats tend to just lay wherever they want on the floor Haha.

We have plenty of nightlights around the house, but only in hallways for everyone to navigate at night, and none in bedrooms. The wife demands complete darkness at night.

One in the hallway outside my bedroom, another one downstairs by the entrance. I'm really blind without my glasses. I think it helps my dog too.

I don't cause my fiance is here, but if I am ever home alone I always have 1 light on. If sleeping alone, I have the hallway light on.

Anyone else a scardy cat of the dark?

I don't normally need light while I sleep, but there have been exceptions.

I was alone because my wife and then young kids were on holiday back home and I had to stay in London to work. At the weekend I went into town and decided to watch a promising-looking SF film called Event Horizon. To my surprise it ended with people stabbing their eyes out and talking backwards in Latin (which is not in any space travel manual I'm aware of).

So okay, I go home to the empty family home. I muck around on IRC or whatever for a few hours, maybe watch a bit of television, then go upstairs to bed.

At the top of the stairs I have to walk along a thin walkway with one of my kids' bedroom doors on the left, to the master bedroom at the end. At that exact moment the draft of my passage down the hall caused a deflating helium balloon in the child's bedroom to bob under the door lintel into my path.

I slept with the light on that night. I joke about that with my family, it's one of my favourite stories.

Yea, occasionally. I leave the closet light on.

I also like to sleep with sound. Either a youtube video or a podcast or the news.

No lights but I do have to have some kind of mechanical noise in the background, like an air conditioner or fan. I can't sleep in absolute silence. It's creepy.

I have a night light on outside my bedroom. I prefer to sleep in pitch darkness, but the light helps if I have to step out without having to turn the lights on.

Also, in the event someone's broken in my apartment I'd like to at least see something.

I didn't have a nightlight as a kid, but I prefer leaving a light on now because I fall asleep easier with one on.
