I'm surprisingly invested in it. I'm just amazed they actually
tied it in to Hitman 1 and 2 kind of. Hell, it even references the final mission of Blood Money.
Only up to Colombia so far (I can't help but play through every level a couple of times first just to check them out before going for mastery 20 sry), but I'm loving all the throwbacks and references.

The cutscenes not being animated normally like in Hitman 1 is hilarious. Still if all of the work went into the areas and gameplay then it is all good.

Didn't realize they were counting Hawke's Bay as one of the 6 locations in H2. So technically H2 has 1 map less than 2016 (5 vs 6, and 1 training vs 2 training). Hopefully the 2 DLC maps are 2 full size original locations with 20 mastery and not like bonus ep sized eps or anything. Although I'd definitely be down for a few bonus eps on the existing maps as 2016 showed you can do a lot more with the existing maps between Patient Zero and the Bonus Episodes.

How are these hitmans compared to 2:SA and 3 Contracts? those were my favourite ones, I didn't like their being time sensitive content in Hitman 1 so I never played it. Did they fix that or do you still miss out? Also is it still online only?

I really want a bonus mission in Whittleton Creek because I wasn't feeling that find the clue shit. It gave me a headache without using assists. Also, I thought the gimmick with Janus might be that you can't use any maskless disguises to fool him personally because he knows you, and I'm a tiny bit disappointed that's not the case. I thoroughly enjoyed the map and mission otherwise though.

The expansions are two NEW locations, as well as some bonus missions for existing ones

i think their direction makes up for a lot of their shortcomings. The in-engine stuff is genuinely really great for landscapes and sweeping shots but fails in close-ups and animations, so they mostly avoid it. The animatics could have been super goofy, but the direction and voicework really makes it all seem really strong despite the loss of the fantastic CG.

the time sensitive stuff is *extremely optional*. there's hours and hours and hours and blood monies worth of game in hitman 1 and 2

I'm taking my time with this so far. Just finished Columbia doing Suit Only, Silent Assassin for my first run through of it. Got Mumbai up next.

In regards to the story:

I really fear they're gonna pit Diana against 47 and reveal he and the shadow client were responsible for the death of her parents. Wasn't that the reveal in that shitty comic?

See, if there's one thing I don't like about what the new age of Hitman represents in terms of design philosophy, it's this idea that every map has to be gigantic and sprawling. Hell, some of the best missions in the history of the franchise have been on relatively small maps. I really loved Hawke's Bay and the mission on it because it was a different scale.

the only thing from old games i still kinda miss is suit retrieval (not suit only - i liked the 'dry cleaning' penalty) and the hilarious newspapers at the end of missions

Fair enough, I've got nothing against smaller levels. The ICA Test Facility in Hitman 2016 was a lot of fun.

Don't really like Hawke's Bay. There's just not much to do in it and it's fun for like an hour and then you're over it. It's a tiny little house with a target that goes through a long drawn out routine and then a long run exit with pretty much a forced linear distraction at the end. When I looked at destinations and saw Himmelstein as the last one, I thought Hawke's Bay was just the training stage (which it is) and not counted in the 6 locations. But didn't realize Himmelstein isn't a real location.

It's fine, there still plenty of content, but Hitman 2 does seem more expensive than Hitman 2016. You get 1 less location for $60, no escalations so far, and the DLC locations are $20 each ($40 for the 2 + bonus stuff) whereas in 2016 it was $10/location. Dunno if that's because WB or IOI.

Did Hitman 2016 launch with escalations? I can't remember how that rolled out.

I think the DLC stuff is fair considering the expansions will be brand new locations while the last one was remixes of the same levels, and the 'biggest' thing was a campaign that was essentially a string of those. I do think they could have been more upfront prerelease about one of the locations being a smaller tutorialized mission even if I do like it though.

I think when it's all said and done it'll be smoother. The episodic releases on top of the general content rollouts led to issues where a ton of elusives and escalations were front loaded. Paris and Sapienza got WAY more love than anything else, I'm more hopeful that stuff will be more evenly spread.

I do wonder why they decided to only make mega levels with multiple targets and varied locations instead of adding a few smaller ones.
Maybe it's cheaper and more efficient for them to do it like that.

It's more impressive to advertise big levels than dense ones.

Also this game was assuredly planned with the episodic model in mind, and for the episodic model you need big levels to tide players over. Curious what they'll do for Hitman 3.

i don't mind the big maps -- the way the escalations work on each map kind of gives different parts of the map their own "level", so to speak

Also had a few achievements glitch and not unlock. Took multiple attempts to get it to register like the Psycho shower one and push person into pool one. Also had the tea glitch where I poison both but it doesn't work.

Ah, I wasn't sure if it was me doing something wrong, but yes, I had problems with the shower one, and on the first attempt at poisoning the 'panic room' I got only one of the associated feats, which seems like it should be impossible.

I'm just curious about something. You're supposed to get Hitman S1 included in S2 if you owned it, right? Well, I own Hitman S1 on PS4, but would like to get S2 on X1X, so I'd assume I'm out of luck, right? Any chance that downloading S1 through Gamepass counts for this?

Quick question: so I have a copy of Season 1 GOTY on PSN, and just got a copy of Hitman 2: Gold Edition there as well. I installed the first game and downloaded the GOTY Legacy content through it. Am I safe to delete the first game now? Or do I need to keep it installed in full in order for the content to carry over? I just don't want to mess it up because it has been downloading all night. Planning to replay the Season 1 content before going into the Season 2 stuff.

Edit: Awesome! Thank you very much, Rez!

You can delete season one once you've claimed the legacy stuff. The only reason to keep season one around is to play your old saves.

just finished vermont. good stuff. I really want to know what's up with the Wilsons - I poked around the house a bunch but couldn't figure anything out. Probably a red herring though.

i think i might turn back on info about the challenges - a lot look kind of inscrutible without info

Dunno wtf is going on with the story and cutscenes, but man I love these levels so far. (Just started the 4th location). The changes to the original levels have also been interesting refinements. I really look forward to hitting max level on everything. The levels are huge and IOI is pushing more targets, but it's still really great to play. It's not needless size like in the old days when they just didn't have the gameplay to fill it.

(Narrative Rant)
I really thought Season 1's lighter touch on story was better. Taking out the mocap just really pushes a tell-don't-show vibe, and then it has all of the needlessly complex stuff from Absolution era storytelling. Maybe it gets better, but I really feel like the strength is the stuff during gameplay, the light dialogue and event triggers, which I'd take anytime over the bits inbetween. The mission intros are still fun, though.

The story seems pretty straightforward at this point, it's basically your standard triple-cross-assassin-with-a-conscience-let's-assassinate-the-big-bads. I mean, it is all pretty ignorable, but I still find myself watching the cutscenes... once.

(ICA plz fire your infographics guy or at least make him stop plastering his dumb opinions all over every graphic they make. unless that's diana making those... diana stahp)

No. The Hitman 1 levels are added as a DLC pack for season 2. So you only ever download Hitman 2+DLC from this point.

Yep. You're literally just claiming a license key for the season 2 versions of those levels, so no data is shared with the season 1 install from it. It's a clever solution

Can I just say: when the legacy pack was announced, I assumed it would run $30. That's an impressive amount of content for just $20 (to say nothing of it being free for S1 owners). We criticize developers for money-making schemes, but this from IOI deserves praise.

I'm only playing the Prologue and the Legacy Pack right now (didn't get the Gold Edition) and I'm already having a blast with all of the new changes. Might just spend the weekend running through the Hitman 1 levels again before Hitman 2 unlocks for me on Tuesday

I only have one tiny complaint.

I am playing on my TV in 1080p and the writing on the interaction prompts such as "Blend in as xxx " and "Disable xxx" is tiny - if there is an option to increase this that I am just not seeing then I apologise.

The Sniper Assassin level runs better than the standalone version, but that comes at the cost of worse LOD. Even at ultra, items like plant pots will pop in when you zoom in. In the standalone version, that only happened if you lowered the LOD setting.
