I just hope the Fighters Pass characters have a more consistent release schedule than Smash 4's DLC. Because, I don't want this to happen again:

September - Smash for 3DS releases
November - Smash for Wii U releases
April - Mewtwo
June - Lucas / Roy / Ryu
December - Cloud
February - Corrin / Bayonetta

"Hey Sakurai, can you add a Pirhana Plant to Smash?" "Sure no problem" "What about this third party character we negotiated the rights for?" "No they are impossible"
That's the thing. Why would Nintendo even think of doing that? Would they really go out of their way to negotiate only for the possibility of having a creative dispute with the Director that gave them this multi million dollar franchise? That seems uncharacteristically risky for Nintendo and this is the same publisher and company that allows Miyamoto to suggest some of the craziest things. I'm just thinking that after all the negotiating done for the third parties in the base game I can see Nintendo deciding to do the DLC selection on their own and focusing on their own IP.

Even though I'll probably get the fighter pass, I would like to see a really great announcement of the gate that makes it worth it for me. Otherwise I might wait for all the DLC to be released.

Nintendo could have asked Sakurai if he was interested in including a particular third-party character and then negotiated the rights if he said yes. It would be pure idiocy to do the reverse of negotiating the rights and then asking Sakurai if he was interested.

The cynic in me says they might just not care. He's their employee and they're a business.

Besides I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happened with Corrin.

So, did whoever make theGrinch list that people went crazy over ever reveal who they were or how they did it?

Also, any good recent video of Ridley play?

Well I think there's a world of a difference with Corrin, a character that's owned by Nintendo and was only included with the free form condition of "make a character to promote a game", and going out of their way to negotiate with a specific company for a specific character. By a company that would be more likely to want to push their own IP in their premiere crossover that can also like a gateway to other franchises to many people and would make the bigger profit from focusing on just that

He's technically not? The way I understand it is that Sora Ltd. works on a contract basis, it just happens to be that they've only worked on Nintendo games so far. Meaning he is not receiving a salary from Nintendo, but rather they are probably paying him according to project obligations and goals.

For the purposes of us consumers it doesn't really mean much, but it does change the power dynamics between Nintendo and Sakurai.

You missed the point entirely. If he can make a common enemy playable, he can make anything work. He's returned to many characters over the years, it's surprising to see this thought still.

If anything, the comment about them being possible was likely about time and maybe budget. Something we won't be able to speculate much on.

I'm not saying he can't make a character work. I'm just saying what if he didn't want to work on the character. He says it clear as day he can decide to make a fighter based on their selection. At the end of the day he has the final say and if the final say is that he doesn't want to work on the character for any reason then that's his decision. The question then becomes if Nintendo would work on negotiations when there's a very possible chance Sakurai would either say no or want to focus on other characters.

If Nintendo had to go through the trouble of getting rights, his option to say no is less an option and more a pleasantry.

Who is going to turn down their employer who just secured rights to a character? Sakurai might be mad but not that mad.

The way they announced the fighter pass as 5 new fighters, made me wonder if they might throw in a few echo fighters along the way as well.

You aren't thinking broad enough, pals and ntscs. Echoes will be released in Echoes Pass, which will be the TGA reveal along with Spirits Pass and Mode Pass.

I've read this post like 10 times and I still can't figure out what it says, lol

What language is this

???

It's two simple questions.

1- I'm sure you noticed the supposed leak that people went crazy about a few weeks ago. Did whoever make that fake leak come forward or is the origin still a mystery?

2- Is there any recent footage of Ridley being used by a skilled player?

I've heard that term, 'safe on block', thrown around but never understood it. I know smash at a basic level, but what does that phrase mean if you don't mind?
Not sure if someone else already explained it to you but what it means is that if you throw out an attack and the enemy blocks it with his shield, depending on the attack you did you are vulnerable after he blocked or not.
The heavier and slower an attack is (lag after the attack came out), the more punishable it is. That includes landing lag on airial attacks. It also depends on how quick the attack of the enemy is after he blocked though. A smash attack as a counter most likely won't work. So if you do attacks safe on block you can just continue doing other stuff and the enemy isn't really able to punish them.
This is true for pretty much ever fighting game btw.

Even before Sora Ltd, Sakurai worked for HAL, not Nintendo. It's pretty interesting that a guy that seemingly has free reign over all of Nintendo's IPs has never actually worked for them.

I made the Grinch leak. It was a simple case of using a tuppence for paper and string and following the instructions from a recent Blue Peter episode

Ryu Hayabusa I think is a dark horse for the next Smash. He's kinda the last "iconic third party that started on the NES" like Mega Man and Simon Belmont.

That's what I'm thinking. I know nothing is guaranteed, but I'm glad to know there are other people receptive to the idea.

I dunno what the announcer would call him though. Just Hayabusa?

Probably. That's what Dead or Alive does.

How many third party tie-ins does Nintendo even have in their own games outside of Smash, where based on interviews it was generally Sakurai himself doing the outreach for those characters? Usually for the third party games with Nintendo elements (not Nintendo games with third party elements), it's the third parties that reach out to Nintendo. Even the Sonic & Mario games were just Sega games.

I actually hadn't thought about this before, but it suddenly makes me think third party characters in this DLC are very unlikely - at least if Nintendo doesn't have at least partial ownership of them.

This is pretty rude. Not only does it read perfectly well to me but have you considered that not everyone on the forum speaks English as their first language?

Man and you have the nerve to call me condescending

And he was right

Come on people, some of us don't use English as work/daily life language, give us some slack!

Holy shit you guys need to relax, it was just a fatecious post, though I sincerely didn't know. English isn't my first language either.

Damn, there's always so much hostility in this thread. I'm sincerely sorry if I offended anyone but damn, I thought people here knew me better by now, I thought my post made it clear I was joking but I'm sorry that I didn't make it more clear

Gee, I wonder why Goku, who is only ever brought up to get a rise out of people, gets people annoyed. At least suggest a decent anime character like Kousaka Honoka if you're going to go down the 'we should have more than just videogame characters' route.
