This is worse than blocking them all. The forum puts words in people's mouths. And it's arbitrary and undiscoverable. Trash.
Most forums and social media on the internet allow emoji spam. GAF and Era were different because they actually encouraged people to write a couple of words, at least after the point when entire posts would be a line of laughing smilies.
Shockingly, people can write crap posts with or without emoji. They can spam GIFs currently for instance, or just write a low effort driveby post. This is like the 20th post in this thread bizarrely arguing that emoji will magically enable bad behaviour with no consequences
GAF supported emojis though
It didn't have an interface for them, but you could use them freely. ERA strips them out

Huh, really? Don't use reddit that much but surprised I've never seen one used (iirc).
Emojis are pretty much the highest form of discourse. Happy to see Era has made the only correct choice.
It's an Era 2.0 feature. Won't be possible until the new site design goes live.
I don't understand how the "vast" majority you spoke of voted for the damn things in the first place. I expect better of you, Era.
I think its harming legibility and it always felt like spam. Same with gifs, though these are at least entertaining to some level.
I use Windows 7 and it doesn't support most emoji so use that.
