It doesn't easily bend unless you drop it several times on concrete smashing the screen, thus decreasing its structural integrity.
Yeah, I suspect the drastically smaller bezels are going to make a lot of people consider the 12.9" model that wouldn't have been interested in it before.Upgrading from a 10.5 I purchased the 11" day one, Just exchanged it for the 12.9 and I'm a lot happier.
Ya it sucks when it happens, but if you do iCloud or iTunes backups there's no issue. But it's better than a stranger farting around with your data.Damn I don't need security that badly lol.
Guess I'm more used to android's laissez faire-ness.
I asked on twitter the ETA for a fixed version. They have no news or ETA on a new version... :(
Smashing =! dropping, those were all completely normal drops.I agree 8 minutes of abuse is nowhere near long enough, should be 15 at least!
Who would have thought smashing the shot out of something makes it susceptible to bending!
I bought these USB-to-USB C adapters so that I could back up my iPad to my PC. They arrived today, but they don't seem to be working at all. I've plugged the cable from the iPad properly on both ends, but I won't even get the Windows sound for plugging/unplugging a device.
I'm on Windows 10, am I missing something here? Do I need to do some sort of configuration, or should it have worked right out of the box? If these adapters are just a piece of shit, can anyone point me to ones that should work (and are the same price range)?
Wish I could help sorry, thinking it is something to do with the iPad itself as I've used similar devices with my Samsung S8 on windows/linux just fine.Anyone?
I want to make sure I don't waste time ordering replacements from Amazon if it turns out there's some other issue with my PC configuration or something that is keeping this from working. Otherwise, they should just work normally?

Sure, people "normally" drop their iPads several times onto a concrete floor!
Accidents happen, the manufacturers generally build them to withstand reasonable damage. Not sure why this is news to you, but as you saw with the other iPad it didn't have these issues only the new one did. So the thin design is compromising the integrity of the device. Means you will need to get a case or walk around with dainty gloves when you use the iPad anywhere not carpeted.Sure, people "normally" drop their iPads several times into a concrete floor
No I'm saying I think the iPad doesn't like the connector, as we've already seen it can't handle USB C storage things very well it means they haven't fully implemented the USB C Standard. Guessing this is a symptom of that in that the storage areas aren't accessible to USB C? Not sure how they want people to back them up though I guess with aircloud storage.Do you mean like a security setting or something? Never had to do that with previous devices, and I wouldn't know what I would need to do in order to have the iPad connect with my PC.

It's why I said he should also do a plain bend test or wait for jerryrigeverything. But clearly it is not as durable as the iPad last year which is an issue.I'm not disputing that accidents happen but purposely dropping it several times isn't a normal scenario. Then bending when the screen is smashed to buggary again isn't a scenario to suggest it's going to bend in your back pack.
As I said it's a thin device, A bit of common sense and it will be fine.

Yeah with that and a case you should be fine.Good thing I got AppleCare I guess. I usually do, but have never had to use it. *knocks on some wood*
Not because of small bezels, I guess - rather, because the overall body of the thing is dramatically smaller than it was before.
Tachiyomi, it's amazing. Open source and free. But Android only :(I know...
I swear, since the Amazon buy out, I'm sure comiXology is like 2 coders, 2 support guys, a manager and a bunch of licensing deals and that's that. Their app is so stagnant and behind the times. Not really any competitive alternative for digital comics though :(

A user here said they liked mangastorm?
Oh I forgot about this tooWell turns out I didn't need these adapters at all: I just now remembered that I had a USB-to-USB C cable for my Switch, so I plugged that in and it's working like a charm.
Wish I knew that two days ago, but at least I can return these defective pieces of shit and stop worrying about this now.

Ah, well you can buy them and import them into it.Comics by ComiXology is an officially licensed digital storefront for comics (where you can buy Marvel, DC, Image, and indie books), not a general comics reading app.
why is it amazing? with regards to someone who doesnt care about non American comics
Yeah I've only seen it bend in his drop test video after it's already destroyed.I'm not disputing that accidents happen but purposely dropping it several times isn't a normal scenario. Got mine today. 12.9" with the Apple Pencil and Smart Cover. Really loving the size so far as i can actually carry it around like a book.
Hard to get used to the smart cover though as the magnet on this thing is really strong.
Also, what screen protector is everyone using? I'm not sure if I need one or not.
Yeah I mostly use it for fan translations anyway which I know is piracy but I have no other options?Comixology doesn't really let you download DRM free files unless the publisher specifies it I believe.
Can't say I've ever felt the need for a screen protector on my iPad. The glass withstands a lot and it's never in danger of any real damage. Also, what screen protector is everyone using? I'm not sure if I need one or not.

Unless you're talking about something like an Apple Smart Folio? To protect the front and back of the iPad while it's not in use? Then yeah, might be a good idea.
Got to try them both out today. Holy fuck the 12.9 is incredible. They're both gorgeous, but the 12.9 feels both massive and lightweight at the sametime. It's a game changer, it makes that display size palatable. I love it.
If/when I upgrade from my Air 2 it'll either be a previous gen 10.5 to save money or a 12.9. Can't see myself getting an 11 when it costs so much more than a 10.5 without being big enough of a difference.
I do mind a little more bezel. The new one feels like a massive improvement, that's why I like it so much. I never would've gotten the old 12.9, but this new one immediately felt perfect. You could check out refurb or used 12.9 1st/2nd gen pros if you don't mind a little more bezel.
If you're reading DRM free comics stuff like from Humble Bundles, Chunky is a great app for comics you load up yourself.

For your use case, that really is the best choice. These new iPads are very very niche, and will remain that way until ios is drastically improved. Was waiting for these forever to upgrade from my old Air. That said, the price is...yikes. Since I'm really only web surfing amd watching the occasional video, I'm thinking of just getting the iPad 2018.
