The Woolsey Fire exploded to 14,000 acres on Friday in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, and fire officials said the relentless blaze is continuing to grow.

A total of 88,000 residents were evacuated from their homes -- 45,000 from Ventura County and 43,000 from L.A. County. It's believed another 60,000 residents south of the 101 Freeway were in the process of evacuating between the 101 and the ocean. No injuries have been reported.

Acting Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles and Ventura counties due to the two fires, the Woolsey Fire and the Hill Fire.

The fire is now moving into Malibu and has forced evacuations of the city into Santa Monica. The Pacific Coast Highway is being converted from a 2 way either lane highway to a 4 way, one way only escape to Santa Monica.
kcranews LA Co. Sheriff's Office: Pacific Coast Highway will become one-way 4 lanes southbound to allow people in Malibu to evacuate to Santa Monica and away from the #WoolseyFire. https://t.co/ODsoj47Bz1

Unbelievable satellite image of the wildfires in the LA area. Red boxes indicate the fire's area. #WoolseyFire

Personally live in Ventura County and the Santa Ana winds are still going furious, but it's more South West winds now, straight into Malibu unfortunately.

Somewhere.
Kind of eerie that the church still remains. Sucks that place burned down. :(

Will plan on coming back home to, well, see if it still there. Haven't heard anything regarding my neighborhood, but I don't think it was quite in the path of the fire (through course there is still the danger of amber).

My flight from SD to SF has been delayed about 2 hours... so far.

Hoping everyone in Malibu is able to evacuate on time.

Malibu is a pain to get in and out of on a good day. I can't even imagine how slowly this evacuation is going down and up PCH. Good luck and stay staff.

It's just about reached the ocean, leapt the 101 at Kanan like 3hrs ago and fucking ran west.
Basically a blazing wall of fire just barreling down to Malibu

James Woods attempting to help Alyssa Milano via twitter exchanges makes me really happy to see. As fucked and divided as the world is, it gives me weird comfort to see humans show humanity.

Hope everyone gets out safely :(

This also makes me wary about moving to CA. Was eyeing Irvine but damn, it feels like wildfires happen fairly often in Cali...

If you live in a very populated place and away from mountainous regions where the dry brush is, you'll generally be safe. The fires are no joke though and climate change is making them worse. But climate change is making the whole west more prone to fires, even Texas.

Have literally dozens of friends affected by this. Sounds like huge areas of the county are going to be gone. Very scary stuff.

Irvine is not part of an area that would be threatened by this kind of wildfire. Which is not to say I recommend living in Irvine, but this particular thing is not a reason to avoid doing so.

This must happen fairly often because this thread is dead.

The images on Twitter are absolutely insane. The entire city is on fire. Caitlyn Jenner's house is gone! Kanye & Kims place is burning!

Man Cali is going to be a nightmare to live in going forward.

To think that it will only get worse. Hopefully we can innovate something to keep damage and casualties to a minimum soon.

Ummm, holy shit.

Fuck Trump for blaming this on water use.

Youtube Malibu and there is a live beach cam where you can see the glow of the flames just on the other side of the hill...

The Hill fire was very close to me--I wasn't quite in the evacuation zone, but it was close enough that I could see the fire from my house last night. The Woolsey fire isn't quite as close, but I know a couple people in TO who were affected by it.

It's crazy that this is happening again not even a year after the Thomas fire.

Whew, just learned that my home is safe. Can sleep with more ease tonight before heading back tomorrow. Going to be quite a sight seeing the landscape through.

In Southern California, it's mostly the wealthy and horse ranchers living in the hills where these fires burn. If you're down in the flat, populated areas with us plebs, you don't have much to worry about until the Big One hits. That'll be a very egalitarian disaster.

I'm wondering and maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I know lots of these people have been forced to evacuate and maybe even lost everything and have pets (cats/dogs) they have to bring around with them to shelters.
I wouldn't mind fostering/sheltering a nice pet even feeding and cleaning after it while a family gets situated. I don't know how these boarding expenses work. I know the news showed many shelters full around the valley.

So... fire knocked out internet service in the county for spectrum users. Fun time. Sitting here with bad cell reception waiting for it to get fixed. On the whole better than a home getting burned down, but I recall the panic during the Thomas fires when all networks went down and power died, cell towers burned. Nothing like being in the dark with little idea as to where the fire is moving.

What county?
Main spectrum for me is actually located in West Hills where they've ordered an evacuation as well.
So far my spectrum works.

Most of the metro area where most of the population reside are fine. I live in Hollywood and you wouldn't know a couple fires are happening within a few miles from me without turning on the news.

I'm in Ventura county. We have a reported network outage for all cam, Oxnard, Ventura apparently, fire damaged fiber according to spectrum on twitter and obviously can't get in there to fix it atm

Cousins have a home in Malibu but they were actually out of town. The neighborhood is decimated though their house is still standing. They're not out of the woods but don't feel great knowing their friends/neighbors don't have a house.

It's very unlikely they'll have a house before this is over.

True, there was a fire in Griffith Park this morning I could see from my office window. I think they were able to contain that one.

That Ventura county though, they just had a terrible fire last year and now this one.
This is actually the closest it's come to the city limits in L.A. county. I don't think the winds ever blow in the direction to affect us though.

Didn't even know about this until a few minutes ago. It's weird seeing a beach that I used to go to look like that.

Yeah, they had to evacuate certain animals from the zoo. It's crazy because I was hiking Griffith not three weeks ago and it looked like a bunch of controlled burns had happened to avoid this type of thing.

Let us remember the 405 fire last year. It's that time of year again only things are happening in more places and earlier this year.

I remember this one especially because this was my commute.
