Catherine will probably be a sort of testing ground for this, since I can't think of anything else relatively "mainstream" that could be hit by this currently? It will be interesting to see if this actually affects some of the scenes, and more likely bonus images in it, vs the fanservice CGs here, especially as they seem to be leaning actually more towards that aspect of Catherine in this release.

I'm still guessing it won't really be affected, but either way it will certainly have an impact on this conversation.
I dont think Sony wants to piss Atlus off with that.

Guess you will read somwthing like this for every niche Jp release from now on

, Dragon Star Varnir™ will be heading West for the PlayStation®4 in Spring 2019! It will be available in both physical and digital formats. Two CG scenes were modified for this game.

DATE A LIVE: Rio Reincarnation will be arriving for the PlayStation®4 (physical/digital) and Steam® in Summer 2019!

Two CG scenes were modified for the PS4 release, while the Steam version will remain unedited. Please note that the gameplay for both games has not changed from the Japanese version.

Mary Skelter 2 was also absent from their lineup. They might actually be skipping it.

I guess going forward IF will just not have fanservice in their games?

I'm glad Idea Factory at least said something about their future games, regardless of how things might pan out. This whole situation sucks and is extremely frustrating to have it happening well into the PS4's life.

Yeah, I hate this. With Nintendo I had the option of importing the game if the games were censor, but this is steeping over the line with it affecting all versions.

There's also the difference that Nintendo only ever did it with their own products.

Could they put them on other consoles? Or are they Sony exclusive?

This is seriously dumb.

CH only develops PS4 games AFAIK, they could port stuff but dropping PS isn't happening so they have to work within those terms.

Oh man, what a strange era we live in now. Sony becoming the out of touch puritan platform holder. With Japanese games getting exclusive extra content on PC as a result, or arguably becoming defacto PC exclusives depending on perspective.

I wonder just how far Sony will push with their new censoring rules. Could this mess even start effecting any anime game that so much as has a brief panty shot anywhere in the game? Seeing that they even forced censorship light on a bikini this mess could even go as far as to start effecting Tales of games and the extra swimsuit outfits that you can get in those games.

Sony's never been the least restrictive company in the world, despite their reputation, but they've never been this bad either. What's prompted this? Has there been a change in management?

This stuff has been pretty targeted so far, I wouldn't expect anything close to consistency from this (for better or worse).

AFAIK they moved their corporate headquarters from Japan to a specific area in the United States, so management has changed to people who only view the world with puritan goggles & bible in hand, and can only speak English.

You're being sarcasictic right? They moved to California the "SJW" capitol of the world.

This is seriously dumb.
There's nothing stopping them from putting their stuff on Switch too, if they wanted. The new Neptunia game is going to be on both PS4 and Switch, actually. I could see future games they don't think they could release uncensored on PS4 being moved to Switch entirely. It's not like these games are demanding from a technical perspective.

I had been considering buying a PSVR headset after Neptunia VR released for that game and a couple of other anime style VR games. Thank God I didnt go through with that

Except that move was, like, 2 years ago, wasn't it?

You want to elaborate on what you mean by this?

Militaratus was implying that Sony had been taken over by evangelical christians who are censoring the anime games. I was saying that Sony is being run by the exact opposite type of people who also hate anime games for differinf reasons

"SJW"s aren't a thing and the idea that California is where they all congregate is some basic Gamergate bullshit besides. Same goes for the idea that progressive people in games universally "hate anime games", lmao.

Are you a gamergater?

Huh, quite a reversal from 3 years ago when nintendo were the ones censoring multiple games.

The most surprising thing to me might be the requirement that things are done in English. That sounds like a pretty annoying expense for the kind of smaller japanese developers we're talking about.

https://gematsu.com/2018/11/nora-to...r-ps4-scene-enhancement-patch-1-now-available

Nora to Oujo to Noraneko Heart got a patch that kinda censors the already censored stuff lol. Cgs replaced and some new ones added. The Switch version will get these changed cgs and the new ones as a bonus to be viewed in the gallery.
DsIoRAOX4AI5SSw

Devs decided this is better than the super censored cgs it seems.
I guess from a visual stand point it makes sense and looks better than blinding light beams, and a fanservice scene that is heavily censored with light beams so you don't see anything kinda fails its purpose in the first place.

This whole Sony censorship story continues to be a massive head scratcher. Like why Sony

I saw that last night and that's why nothing will change in regards to the policy. Instead of cutting their losses and keeping the heat on Sony the developer is now spending extra time and money to work around it.

Modern day Nintendo doesn't seem to care, so there's an obvious alternative for those Japanese developers.

I mean. Is it so hard to not put naked women or sexualized under-aged girls in your game?
Good move Sony. I hope MS and Nintendo follow suit.

Sony seriously needs to cut it out with this puritanical bullshit. Ratings boards exist for a reason; let developers make the games they want to make, and let the ratings boards decide the rating. I will not support a hardware manufacturer that excessively interferes to force developers to alter their games in ways not demanded by ratings agencies or local legislation.

Worth reviving this thread:
the new version of DOAX3 on PS4 will be censored, unlike the Switch version and the old PS4 version (as seen in the gematsu comparison).
Huh, interesting. The scope's getting bigger.

Edit: Wait a sec, what's the supposed censorship in this case? If it's the Soft Engine version, that doesn't sound like that's stemming from the same place as the other differences from this thread.

Are you aware of how the ESRB formed and who's part of the ESA?

Yes, but this isn't ESRB, PEGI, CERO, or any other rating board or industry association's policy; it's Sony's, and Sony's alone.

Whether the ratings boards were set up by the industry or not, they have well defined rules and policies. Similarly, the legal requirements of different countries are defined through publicly available legislation. Sony's actions, by comparison, are completely opaque. There are no publicly stated guidelines, and it's uncertain if there are any even made available to publishers.

Yeah, the issue there is that it's Sony asking for changes even AFTER it has been rated by those rating boards.

Is this overall nudity ban or just underage looking girls (even though 1000 yr old dragon!) banned? Because personally I hope they double down on this if it's the latter, if it's the former then fuck them.

By far the biggest reason why this shit pisses me off.

Its one thing to have a case like Omega Lab where the game didn't get a rating in some places so they pulled the plug for the western release to not have a weird problematic case like that on the platform in the West. But demanding censorship for games that received a normal rating like everywhere is just complete bullshit
