No shit :P It's coming after the "1 year exclusive deal" they had with MS.

I wonder what one of the big new reveals at the game awards a few days earlier will be...

Actually you don't need Plus to play free to play games. But you would need Plus to get it if it was only free on Plus, and then you'd need Plus to play it because it isn't free without Plus, and therefore it isn't free :)
I was thinking that they would do the Rocket League thing where it's one of the monthly free games and then 20 bucks (30 bucks for PUBG) after that. That means you would need Plus to play it as it's still a paid game, just with the Plus promo period.

doesnt make sense to considering FN is the bigger game on the platform & theyd make more revenue from people buying the game outright and then buying MTX than paying BH to put it on PS+
It makes sense. I presume PUBG on One comes with the option to buy skins too like on PC. If so, giving the game for "free" would mean having a big potential userbase ready to spend money on microtransactions. And Bluehole will still get money from Plus.
The big issue here is the game will probably perform much worse than the XBox One X version, so if they release another game with shitty performance I doubt people will drop Fortnite to play PUBG.

Hmm, I was really interested in PUBG before Blackout dropped, and I'm wondering if it will offer a vastly different experience.

Well that's definitely one route to get me to play the game.

I've played PUBG on PC and Blackout on PS4 -- they play pretty differently. PUBG is much more about getting in position and getting your shots off, Blackout is more about knowing when to retreat.

It might encourage some FN players to buy PS+ and try a new BR. And there's a good chance that these people will keep playing FN and still buy stuff.

I think PUBG is still huge enough that they really don't need to do that. It's not like Rocket League which was a complete unknown when it released on Plus. Also PUBG has sold consistently well on Xbox, staying in the UK Top 20 for most of the year for example. So they'd want some significant money from Sony to offset the potential sales. Even despite the exclusivity deal, we haven't seen PUBG hit GwG or Game Pass.

But, of course it's possible. I just find it unlikely.

PUBG is still big but it definitely seems to be losing a lot of steam, especially with BO4 out. Making it a free PS+ game would obviously give the game a big jump start at launch, and maybe encourage a lot of FN players to buy PS+.

I'm leaning towards it not happening, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

I just think that PS Plus is basically a mandatory subscription to operate a PS4 at this point, because online play is such a huge thing now. So there's no reason for Bluehole to just make PUBG free.

I guess that confirms it. PUBG PS4 the big Game Awards announcement. Now the question is, how well will it sell because the PS4 players are already well used to playing H1Z1, Fortnite and Black Out. Plus many are waiting for Firestorm from Battlefield V and there's a potential RDR2 Battle Royale. It's not free either like Fortnite and H1Z1.

On the upside it's releasing on a console that will have a userbase over 90m. That has to count for something. 3m sales on PS4 this December possible?

They have competition from both Fortnite and Blackout now. I am not sure how well this is going to do tbh.

I eagerly await to be told that PUBG wasn't actually a 1-year console exclusive to the Xbox One, and that the release date is just a funny coincidence.
