I'm super excited about Kunio-Kun: The World Classics, supposedly on the Japanese eShop on Nov 20:
http://kuniokun.jp/the_world/

11 Nekketsu NES games (including dodgeball, soccer, etc.)
4 "overseas" US versions of Renegade, River City Ransom, Super Dodge Ball, Crash n The Boys Street Challenge
3 NES Double Dragon games

- All with online multiplayer support (!!)
- Dec 20 in Japan and Asia (no Western release date)
- PS4, Switch, XBox One, Steam.
- The Asian release (according to Play Asia) will have multi-language support: English, Japanese, Chinese (trad/simplified)

Since I'm going all digital on the Switch, I'm hoping the Japanese release is the same as the Asian release and include multiple languages. There is no Asian eShop... the HK and Korean eShops are empty and can only be used to redeem codes.

Very interesting.

Thanks for the impressions! Easy skip for me then. Still haven't finished S2 or Kemono Friends so I'm in no rush to buy a quick and dirty knock-off, but I was tempted. Is the music at least bearable?

Lol, I'm actually humming the main song in my head right now, after only playing a few minutes.

Not sure if it's the same one, but I personally use:

https://www.seagm.com

I go there if I want Japan or Europe eShop credit. Even used it for some PSN credit, too. I did have one issue a few months ago where the European code that was given to me wasn't working on my EU secondary account but it worked perfectly for someone who was actually in EU. Other than that, I've had no issues and will continue going to them.

I bought Night Slashers, reluctantly.

IT HAS NO WAY TO DISABLE A PIXEL SMOOTHING FILTER!!!!!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM

Also, awful UI/branding and presentation. It really bothers me that these guys hold Data East's IP hostage.

I also bought Trash Rally. It is of course a wonderful release with all the necessary options.

There are quite a few.

I've really enjoyed the first 2 parts of the Journey Down which has a real Monkey Island feel to it.

Journey Down is pretty great actually. Also I have more or less enjoyed Goetia, Darkside Detective, Bulb boy, Agatha Knive, The Wardrobe, 2064: Read only memories, Adventures of Bertram Fiddle, two Inner World games.

Then there is stuff I haven't played yet like Lions song and Broken Sword 5 and all of those Telltale games. There is also fmv games like Shapeshifting Detective and Late shift. Some games like Night in the Woods, Oxenfree, Gone Home and even Detention and Layers of fear are very near the style of point & click adventure.

Thank you! I was hoping for more LucasArts godlike games :/
How's the Syberia 1+2 port? I just discovered both games for 34,99 on the eshop.

They're supposed to be solid ports.

I've attempted to get through Syberia 1 twice now, first on PS3 then got further on Switch.

I was liking the game but found the environment quite large and slow to traverse. When I was a bit puzzled on where to go and what to do next I lost steam and moved onto other games. Was liking it but need to give it another shot soon and maybe look up a tip or two to get back on track.

Hey boys and girls, you should ignore those boring and stupid games that came out today, and instead you could prepare yourself for the coming of PALM READING PREMIUM COMING 15/11.
6gSDzspX3acwHbxV7dUZWFTw1adts8S5.png

For only 9€/$ you can experience the ultimate palm reading experience on your Nintendo Switch! Less 'Jump Up Superstar' and more 'Read my Palm Superstar'. Watch out RDR2, here comes the GOTY.
Not convinced? Here's the best part. It's cheaper than the ps4 version. You're saving 4,5€. What a deal!

...aaaaanyway the reason I wrote this post is that I was curious about BattleZone Gold Edition and was looking for some impressions/opinions. It looks like a decent space tank game, but between the price and the fact that the trailer for the game only kinda showed coop missions (I just want some online, goddammit!), I'm not really convinced.

A bit off topic - has anyone seen a deal on Octopath Traveler for Black Friday? Not sure I really want to play it after not really digging DQXI, but would be interested perhaps if the price is right.

Unfortunately, no. Maybe it'll get a digital discount, but I'm not seeing a ton of 1st party Switch titles being discount. There's a few good deals like Kirby Star Allies, DKC Tropical Freeze, & Xenoblade 2 for $35 at Walmart, plus $40 for Bayonetta 2 at Best Buy, but that's really it.

I might give in & nab Mario + Rabbids for $20. At that price, it'd be cheaper to just get the game & then buy the DLC instead of waiting for that physical re-release where you get the season pass bundled with the game.

Finished Grim Fandango this morning. I can't not love that game and it's one of the few adventure games that I can replay without feeling bored.

Also tried a bit of The Shapeshifting Detective, but I'm not sure what to think of that one yet. I jumped into it after finishing their previous game, The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, the day before and that game managed to pull me in way faster. It doesn't help that one of the actors from that game has a prominent role again and I was unable to separate the two characters. Will probably try to jump in again next week.

Bug Butcher is pretty great. It's excellent for short sessions as the levels don't take more than a couple of minutes. Every level has optional score and combo challenges to aim for as well as a leaderboard to add some extra longevity. The soundtrack is all wrong though and should be replaced with the one from this game:

I would also have like some subtle usage of rumble, but there is none unfortunately.

Cheers. Was late though. I usually check Nintendo Life at 4ish to find their post but they didn't even get to posting it today.

EDIT: Also, it doesn't list discounts as it usually does. For the cheapskate in me, finding out how much money I can save is my favourite part.

I impulse bought Shikondo, as it's on sale in North America for $4.75 -- haven't seen it that low yet. I really enjoy playing bullet hells and shmups as a tourist, and this one has really wonderful art direction plus a cool risk-reward gameplay hook. The music is mixed way too low and I've experienced an odd issue where my movement just stops working for a second or so (I don't think it's my left Joy-Con, as I tested it in the menu as this was going on). Anyone had this issue with the game? Still, no regrets on the $4.75 and would recommend to shmup lovers.

I bought Night Slashers, reluctantly.

Ugh. The Johnny Turbo's Arcade branding has always looked offensively tacky to me, but I was planning on buying Night Slashers anyway. Really don't want to play it without a pixel-perfect option, though. Smoothing sucks.

Holy shit, is the Panic mode in Bug Butcher addictive as hell. It's basically an endless wave mode, but with a timer and drops that let you extend that timer. You start out with a basic kit, but gold coin drops can be spent on upgrades.

It's not revolutionary in any way, but I just can't stop playing it. Currently 4th on the leaderboards for the first Panic level on medium with a score of 5400.

How's the Syberia 1+2 port? I just discovered both games for 34,99 on the eshop.

Want to add to the discussion because point and click adventure games is my favorite genre. I've played through most of the games on the PC so I can't speak to the quality of the ports. I'll rank the ones mentioned so far in order of recommendation.

If you're missing that great LucasArts feeling in your life then The Journey Down is definitely the best choice on the Switch (outside of Grim Fandango obviously).

The Dark Detective
is also humorous and worth your time.

Gorogoa, maybe more a puzzle game than an adventure game, but was the best game I played last year so I have to recommend it.

Syberia I and II I love, but they are much cheaper on PC, so you might want to factor that into your decision.

Broken Age
is a fun game, but not as good as Thimbleweed Park.

Dead Synchronicity was a decent game, cool atmosphere and setting but a little bleak though. I think it's currently on sale.

Detective Gallo had some fun moments, I'll likely pick up their other game The Wardrobe at some point too.

Goetia, I'm playing through now. It definitely shows promise and I'll post more impressions when I get further.

Her Majesty's Spiffing
is supposed to be humorous too, but I haven't played it, but will pick it up if it ever goes on sale.

And finally one of my most anticipated games of 2019 Trüberbrook:

Any impressions on Mercaneries Wings? Got I hate that name. It looks like an interesting Final Fantasy Tactics knock off. But oddly the price has sent up red flags to me. It makes me think that the game is very short or not as in depth as I would hope.

Saw a few posts discussing the eShop gem of the week - Bug Butcher. Grabbed some footage from Arcade mode for those curious about the game:

Unfortunately, no. Maybe it'll get a digital discount, but I'm not seeing a ton of 1st party Switch titles being discount. There's a few good deals like Kirby Star Allies, DKC Tropical Freeze, & Xenoblade 2 for $35 at Walmart, plus $40 for Bayonetta 2 at Best Buy, but that's really it.

I might give in & nab Mario + Rabbids for $20. At that price, it'd be cheaper to just get the game & then buy the DLC instead of waiting for that physical re-release where you get the season pass bundled with the game.

Thanks, I didn't think I'd seen anything but wanted to be sure. $60 for a game I'm on the fence about is a bit steep. Guess it's back to The Way on Switch and Crosscode on PC (which really needs to make its way to Switch!)

Wow thanks, this helps a lot ;)

Thank you! I was hoping for more LucasArts godlike games :/
How's the Syberia 1+2 port? I just discovered both games for 34,99 on the eshop.

The Syberia 1 port is fine, not perfect but fine. The game itself is good, as is Syberia 2 (which I have played on PC a long, long time ago).
I really liked Goetia, atmosphere is nice but the main attraction was its puzzles (I like tough but fair puzzles, and though some are tough, most of the game's puzzles are fair), at the current sale price it is beyond a no brainer (I paid full price and it was more than worth it. I really, really tried without looking up hints so it took me around 40 hours... I play really slow though).
Gorogoa was really good, just be warned that it's short. I didn't mind at all, I enjoyed it more than many longer games, it's really good, but some would mind the length, especially at its price.
I would recommend also True Fear: Forsaken Souls - it's a combination point and click/hidden object (not LucasArts style). Try the demo (without any hints enabled), see if it clicks (...) - it is the beginning of the game and carries over.
While initially slightly annoying for some reason (I think it was the voices), I grew to like The Inner World, and liked it much, much more than The Journey Down that personally I found to be ok but not more.
Someone mentioned Bulb Boy - personally I wouldn't touch it with a pole... I couldn't relate to anything in that game. But that's just me. :-)

True Fear: Forsaken Souls looks really interesting. Are all three parts available on Switch or only the first?

edit: aaaaand bought. Does anyone know how long this game is? Most hidden object games are pretty short (around 3-4 hours)..

The sound emulation is also regularly messed up on level 2 and 5. (It stutters severely)

It's really depressing and I hope they will fix all these issues but considering how slapdash the whole Johnny Turbos Arcade-thing feels, I doubt it.

After already putting almost 70 hours into Into the Breach, I just recently realized that you don't have to power the first upgrade of a weapon to be able to get to the second, meaning you can skip upgrades.

Oh boy, I wonder what I'll find out next :D

You just saved me potentially 50 hours then, cheers! I was just thinking today having played some more earlier that this is probably second in my GotY chart after Hollow Knight. I doubt you could get better gaming from a £25 eShop card than that.

Forgotton Anne impressions anyone?

You're welcome! I figured I'm probably not the only one who's missed this (well maybe at that playtime I am lol), as I don't think its explicitly explained at any point in the game.

I was also very (pleasantly) surprised to come across a new kind of enemy at my 4th or 5th run, by the way.
It was the
Burrower, who cannot be pushed but will instantly burrow when damaged
Now wondering if I'm gonna come across a boss Vek of this kind, too and what his enhancements are gonna be like.

I'm currently at 60 hours in 'Into the Breach', I have completed all the possible achievements with the first squad.

I have completed a four islands and a two islands run in hard difficulty with this squad (the other achievements left require to complete the game with the other squads).

Currently, trying to get the last gold metal with this squad, in a three islands run in hard difficulty.

And then, I will go for all the remaining gold metals for hard runs, and achievements tied to the rest of squads, that I haven't used yet.

And even with this, it took me at least 30 hours to discover that there is a Reset command that you can use once per combat, to restart all the movements in this turn if you made a stupid movement.

The game is currently sitting as my all-time favorite turn-based strategy game.

Finally, a game has surpassed to to my previous favorite, 'Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn'.

Oh wow haha, that's a big one! Reset can be a game changer.
I guess a small criticism is that they could have done a better job at explaining all these mechanics in the tutorial (or in whatever way). I also only realized in my second run that you can see the exact order of events and attacks of the next enemy turn by pushing the right stick. The button mapping is on the screen, but this one wasn't explicitly explained in the tutorial, so I missed it.

I mean, if you include a tutorial in your game, then there's no reason to not try to cover all the important aspects (as long as it doesn't get too long then, which in this case it wouldn't).
