Last I heard, the Obsidian/Microsoft deal was still in the same place it was last month when I reported on it -- still not 100% finalized. If that helps you guys parse the teases.

Much appreciated, Jason.

Can you comment when it was the last time you heard, or how likely you think it is that it will be finalised?

Wow, you did not have to come in here to alleviate our pseudo-psychotic breakdown but we much appreciate you stopping by to let us know that! I still have hope :P

Cheers!

That's interesting. Thanks for the update, Jason. I wonder if they're under any pressure to get it done before XO? I also think this maybe means that Microsoft wasn't banking on making that announcement at XO. Hmmmmm.

Remember guys that most of the E3 acquisition announcements weren't fully "finalized" either at the time, coming weeks or more after that for full legal stuff I believe. I don't have a clue whether they will say anything at XO18 about this or not, but they may do so if far enough along the path for both sides to be okay with it.

It's worth nothing that a deal with Obsidian also involves an separate deal with Take2 about what to do with their unannounced Private Division game. A buy-out/cancellation/change of publisher/or Obsidian having to honor that deal first.

My simple, ignorant take on it would be that Take Two would be inclined to sell the rights to Microsoft because they - from what I've read - only own the publishing rights, so if Obsidian is going exclusive, they have no reason to continue to fund the game or publish it.

OK, tired of the scalebound and the tabata hate.... Scalebound is not dead , it just needs a better reinvention and tabata directed crisis core -ff7, one of the best ff game

and he also directed type 0 one of the worst ff games

its not hatred. its precaution. tabata is a great problem solver, but not a very good creator.

Won't happen, but MS should hire Tabata to create a new Japanese Studio for MS Games. I mean we know he is making his own studio, but MS should snatch him up and fund him. That solves the whole American Company buying a Japanese Company issue, just start one instead.

Really interested to see what the cloud stuff looks like now. Could be a game changer.

Going by what is expected so far now the only thing I'm really interested in is the battletoads reveal. This looks to be extremely disappointing. Why bother bring back the conference if you have nothing worthwile to show?

Just out of curiosity, are you judging type-0 as a game for current gen systems?
It's important to remember it was a PSP game (not even Vita) that then was ported, so obviously there's plenty of limitations to what they could achieve and why there's so many closed areas for the missions, as PSP could not load a lot at the same time.
Gameplay wise it has the limitations that came with the original system it was on but I'd say scenario-wise it was very interesting

What Jason said should help work out what won't be announced at the event.

I don't see how it's huge, it's what we were promised a long time ago. This is at the very least what I expected, and I hope it runs well.
After constant vagueness and beating around the bush with the MP, I didn't expect it to be in the game. I thought it'd either be scrapped or heavily nerfed. But if they actually got it working with cloud computing then that's pretty huge.

I suppose that the positive side of no acquisitions at XO18 could be that they still included this in the Xbox Wire post about it this week: "Of course, we've got a couple big surprises up our sleeves, so make sure you don't miss a minute!"

Phil very specifically mentioned the rare acquisition as an example of previous x0 events, he wouldn't mention it for no reason

maybe he had hopes of finishing the deal in time for X0 but it couldnt happen

sometimes just because things dont happen as planned doesnt mean you "lied" about them

well this thread seems gloomy now. hype balloon deflated

We've been told by Phil himself to look to previous X0 events to base on our expectations of what is to come out of X018.

Matt said next month (this month, November) would be very good for Xbox fans.

We know from Jez that he was told by an executive at Xbox that the 4 acquisitions at E3 were "only the beginning."

Both Gerstmann and guys at Waypoint have hinted at more acquisitions along the way.

I think it'll be reasonable to suspect an acquisition.

This reasonably expected acquisition may or may not be Obsidian.

I would think Klobrille posting the "Microsoft/Obsidian Entertainment" picture to be some indication but he may have been joking around.

So, to conclude, Microsoft is acquiring a studio and sharing that X018 is a reasonable expectation albeit not set in stone.

That is enough for me to be hyped up for X018.

Yeah lets wait and see, I remember Jez saying a couple weeks back that MS had been 'courting several developers' including Turtle Rock, not to mention no one knew about the Ninja Theory and Compulsion acquisitions when they were announced.

Again not to sound like a broken clock but I think it's best for everyone to temper their expectations a bit ahead of Saturday, we seem to be getting ahead of ourselves with all these rumours flying around.
