Thanks ZhugeEX !

I'm pretty sure I know what you mean now. Either it isn't getting announced at X018, or they just deleted the tweet because the SoT loot wasn't meant to be a tease.

I'd go with the latter, as only a "couple" of people guessed that option =p

London, United Kingdom.
I'm wondering about other thing.

How they could announce that. In formal way like on E3 with moving speech or in light way (like all Inside Xbox format) with laugh and referring to the rumours.

What do you think?

Yall are too excited. I'm sure he means that the "Obsidian" items are not related to any hint of an acquisition, but the internet being what it is, grabs hold and refused to see a coincidence as a coincidence.

As such, the tweet was derailed.

That they aren't announcing it at XO or that the acquisition isn't happening? I really hope the latter is true, I'd hate to see Obsidians future games becoming WinStore exclusive on PC :(
Lol.. what? so you'd rather they keep struggling and hoping they break even than being acquired by MS ? all cos you don't like the MS store? since you are a die-hard PC gamer and "avid" supporter of the developers work on that platform, may I ask you. How many copies of pillars of eternity did you buy and gift out to help support the devs?
Obsidian Entertainment acquisition no longer a thing?
I didn't say that either.
I guess you didnt see this then?

I'd say is happening but not at XO then.

This actually makes me more hopeful about the show, they teased a couple big announcements. While I believe Ninja Theory game is one of those, I was expecting obsidian to be the other, but now is unknown.. which makes me kinda hyped to know what it is.

It doesn't matter what you think about the Windows Store, a company staying a business is much more important. If that means Windows Store exclusivity, then that is worth it to any company.

If I were a betting man, I'd say that this is the case. If so, I really wonder what their announcements will be like! Many were assuming this would be one of the "big" ones.

He's likely saying don't read into a tweet about MixPot rewards as an intentional confirmation that Obsidian has been acquired.

While it could be a fun tease, people were using it on Twitter as confirmation that the deal has happened.

A couple of people in this thread have the right idea.

Well, there's two main train of thoughts occurring at this point, but both point to the acquisition nearing completion and being announced sometime in the near future.

Thanks ZhugeEX !

I'd also go with the latter. So many people making definitive calls on whether it'll show up or not based on 1 comment.

People's opinions changing by the minute up in here haha.

Obsidian is happening
But not at XO

This hasn't been confirmed either. We have two days until we get to see what happens.

It is worth noting that Obsidian Drum and Spyglass has been in Sea of Thieves for a long time, so they took it down once the tweet was getting derailed. They posted the tweet right back up afterwards.

I think a more Japanese presence on the X1 is what I want the most for X018, but I haven't read enough into X018 to know if thisis happening or not.

I don't think Zhuge was commenting on whether or not the Obsidian acquisition was being announced at X0 or not.

I can't think of a better time to do it, so I think it'll be there.

Hmmmm. I still am at a loss on Microsoft's decision to bring XO back. They could have shown more of Crackdown at E3 or through IGN First and could have unveiled a new first-party game (like the Ninja Theory reveal at XO that's been speculated) at the Game Awards. Everything else we know about could have been on a regular Inside Xbox. What was the driving force behind Phil and Matt sitting down and saying, "No, we really need a bigger platform." That is, personally, why I think there will be at least one REALLY COOL surprise. Does an Obsidian acquisition fit that bill of a needing a bigger platform? I'm not sure that announcement, by itself, does.

The Inside Xbox stream isn't the entirety of the XO event.

It's also a fan service event for people in Mexico to attend.

Yeah that tweet probably is a coincidence. I mean it's a relevant thing for Sea of Thieves. At the same time it is possible that it's also meant as a tease. They are fully aware of the rumors going around.

I don't know. It's just that those requirements are so small that my PC shouldn't have any problems doing 4K with that.

GTX 970 recommended seems reasonable.

Isnt it the most common recommended graphics card since the Pascals dropped?

So unless you are 4K@200 most games this gen i think you just forgot how good a graphics card the GTX 970 is.

I understand that, but they chose to re-brand Xbox FanFest as XO18. That's not a frivolous change to make, given XO's history of being a larger event and having more substantial announcements. Phil has said to expect it to be on the same page as previous XO events, so there must be some big things we don't know about. I'm not saying it needs to be E3, but they wouldn't have (or maybe, shouldn't have) brought back the XO name without having some substantial announcements lined up.

What if Obsidian is just making exclusive to Microsoft and Microsoft is funding it?

The Kotaku article effectively rules that out.

An acquisition is what's currently being negotiated.

It is not a done deal or a sure thing, but that is what is on the table as far we know.

And I think it's probably a win-win for Microsoft and Obsidian.

I have a hard time seeing how that makes sense for Microsoft. They want studios. Why would you pay for an exclusive game to help stabilize a company having financial problems AND give them the ability to move on after they're done? If the game is great, they price for them to develop for you in the future skyrockets or you run the risk of them going multi-platform. If the game is not good, you can move on, but it would likely mean the death of Obsidian and the Internet and fans of the company would blame you, likely spinning some story that you interfered and made them change key design elements. It would not help Microsoft shed the image that they're no developer friendly, especially at the AAA level.

Think Zhuge means Rare wasn't using their update to hint at an Obsidian aqusition. Was a coincidence. Doesn't mean it is or isn't happening or whether it will or will not be at X018.

Last I heard, the Obsidian/Microsoft deal was still in the same place it was last month when I reported on it -- still not 100% finalized. If that helps you guys parse the teases.
